Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

Is it me or is the dodging window for grappling moves more strict?

When Devastator, Menasor, Blitzwing and Grimlock manage to hit me, it's usually because they used their grapple move.

Speaking of Autobots, I've noticed that my focus time tends to be very short when I'm fighting the autobot clones. Is it some special skill of theirs? It seems especially true when Sideswipe is on the battlefield. I usually die out of surprise because my focus time was cut very short. Like, I get only one hit in - and that's with Bumblebee + drills - and it's back to normal time and vulnerability.

Any time they dodge or parry one of your attacks you drop out of focus. They tend to do that more often than the Decepticons, but this can be observed with enemies as low ranked as the yellow 'sergeant' grunts.

Am I the only one who feels that the Insecticon's theme sounds familiar? Like there's a riff in it that I think I heard before.

This game did its job in more ways than one.

I fell off with collecting IDW Transformers books a while back. Guess what I've started resuming, starting with my birthday last week!? Reading these Marvel Classics was a nice trip down memory lane...

Definitely easier, but Bayonetta 1 was an easy Platinum game. This isn't too bad even on Prime difficulty.
Honestly, I think Bayonetta 1 is still Platinum's hardest games on the higher difficulties. Not that their subsequent titles are a walk-in-the-park, but in comparison they offer you more leeway when you screw up.

That said, imo God Hand still holds the crown in overall difficulty coming from them.

Today I discovered a move of Bumblebee that I did't know about. It's a context prompt (circle, like his back attack and Grimlock's grabs) when near a downed enemy, callled "saddle slam". BB gets on top of the enemy and pummels them. Is this common knowledge? Can others do it?

Bumblebee is straight-up gangsta in this game, it's comical. Others can't do it, no.

The first three have very telegraphed grabs, but Grimlock's does indeed come out very fast. He's a force to be reckoned with on Prime difficulty.

Oh wow, I didn't realize they packed so much depth into the core mechanics. I wish there was more "real" content and/or a better story so that I could feel compelled to replay it. I finished the game and uninstalled immediately, but it was a very satisfying experience. Here's hoping for a bigger and better sequel!

Are there any videos from high-level players which illustrate the combat system's full potential?

I'd still recommend replaying the campaign on Magnus, since it and Prime have vastly different pacing from the difficulties below them, as well as redone enemy placement. The non-story challenges are also worthwhile, given that they have situations you don't encounter in the campaign including fighting the Autobots.

If that's not your cup of tea, then fair enough.

The game is also quite short once you skip cutscene and are familiar with the levels.

I am replaying on commander now and it maybe took 2 hours to get to the final fight.

Megatron is kicking my ass though.

I actually thought the Menasor + Devastator fight was pretty easy, but Megatron really dodges.

I'm doing some combo practice on Twitch if anyone's up for talking tech.

Eh I still think Bayonetta 1 is easier BUT I agree that God Hand (on max difficulty) is very hard. Just unlocked Prime Difficulty :)

they got pretty creative with the challenge modes. love the new encounters and the platforming sections at the end. they should do more of them in a sequel. i also like the turret mode in this game. i think this one is platinums best together with the last one in bayo 2 (not gonna spoil it.)

Platforming sections? I just had a flash mental image of a Transformers beat-em-up a la TMNT or Final Fight.

you could call them that. there is a time limit, mini puzzles, blocked off section with some platforming. find the goal and all that. yes, i need more TMNT and Final Fight.

Prime isn't a step up the way Commander --> Magnus is... the only real change seems to be slight speed boost for enemies and about double the damage, but given that you want to avoid being hit entirely in Magnus enemy, it doesn't really change much.

Goddamn Platinum just let me sell in bulk though, PLEASE

So however many weeks after release I still haven't finished this. Probably my least favourite major Platinum game. I want to like it, especially since I love the source material and it does play fine, it's just so...blah. I've got no drive, pun intended, to continue playing.

I'm glad I bought the game yesterday. I have finished chapter 1 and played challenge mode for 1 hour, got SS rank in two challenges. I'm using Sideswipe and Bumblebee the most, the game is really fun.

Yeah it is. I just uploaded the Insecticon theme since there some lesser known tracks not on YouTube. Such a damn good song. The (Kickback) Robot Form theme is that one while the one (Kickback) Insect form theme is Fight Theme 5.

High Quality Megatron Phase 1 theme here.
If anyone wants to find a song that isn't on YouTube, let me know. :)

I really wish we knew just how much things stacked, like if they cap out at 100% or something.

The 50k T.E.C.Hs are so good.

You're no longer my hero

You were supposed to be the chosen one

This sits comfortably between Anarchy Reigns and Bayonetta 1 for me. It's so much easier than Bayonetta, but I think the simpler flow and easier execution are to the game's benefit rather than detriment. Not even sure why, it just makes it more of a romp without really compromising how engaging the mechanics are.

For what it's worth, my enjoyment of the game ramped up steadily the more I played, meaning my second playthrough on Commander was more fun than Warrior because of the added challenge and thus greater need to use all tools, in turn making gameplay exponentially more beautiful. I was actually disappointed during the earlier stages of my first, Warrior run.

Yeah but it's still random as hell.
I wish Platinum would patch the crafting minigame to give a more consistent result. Money's not really an issue after you unlock Prime, but it's tedious to craft 20 tech pieces and then have to sell maybe 15 of them. That's not even an exaggeration. It's been that bad for me.

Honestly, 1/4 good/shit ratio sounds wonderful. Mine seems to be closer to 1/50. Worse yet, 2 out of 3 of the latest ones I've put to use have been "failures." Hunting for the orange seems so damn pointless when the supposed positive effects seem so insubstantial.

The thing with the loot game is that it trivialises all previous difficulty levels... I'm fooling around with an ss axe on commander and its like tearing a hot knife through butter

Got the game today and finished it. It really is better than I thought it would be. But it clearly sits in the same boat as Korra, when it comes to budget/development time. Also very sad, you can't play as the decepticons.

One day Platinum will throw their hands up and create a challenge room editor where you can set waves of enemies and share them with your friends

Eh, this is pretty far from Korra from a budget POV. It's not AAA like Bayonettas or Vanquish, but this is clearly made with a lot more money than Korra. Every aspect of the game is a lot better than Korra. Korra was clearly a super-cheap digital game with minimal amount of money thrown into its development (and thus, lots of corners cut in what Platinum could do with the game), while this isn't too out of its league as a slightly cheaper-than-AAA retail game.

i think they were trying to play the RNG game. loot or the results from the crafting minigame, it's all random in the end. you can boost the odds with gear in-game. for crafting, you play the minigame and pay with credits. i think it's fine, especially for their first? the weakness lies in their user interface. i'd be happy if they can improve it in the next game.
