Halo 5 Multiplayer Coverage! (no campaign spoilers)

The maps are what scares me the most about this game and could easily make people drop off and play other games (like COD) if they arent good. As i said before, 343 haven't exactly made memorable maps with 4 other than Haven.

And from the twitch feeds i saw yesterday, i dunno, im not crazy about the maps so far. They just make everything look the same. No identity or uniqueness.

Thats what you get for free i guess.

Shadowfall had some good maps put out for free, so I'm hoping will see more maps created without Forge. And if they are gonna be Forge I hope they are distinct enough that I don't notice it

Well maybe they have better map designers cause from what i played in halo4, none of them felt like classic halo maps other than Haven. Thats one map out of what, 20? And now in 5, everything is looking the same. These guys seriously need better map designers.

I agree with you, after 4 I was hoping that they would get their act together on this front. From what I've seen and played they haven't although I did enjoy the beta maps in that limited time. I just hate the aesthetics of the maps

The best way I can describe it is that the maps feel busy.

Too busy, all have the same aesthetics and none of them stand out or particularly feel like Halo. Maybe ill change my mind Tuesday, but i doubt it. 4 didn't.

I go back to any non 343 Halo game and i can think of multiple memorable maps in each of the games. More than a few even. I go back to 4, the only one that really stands out for me is Haven. The rest all feel like these ones in 5, busy, similar aesthetics and nothing really memorable. This is becoming a real problem for them.

Stop filling your maps up with so much shit. Having empty space doesnt necessarily mean it absolutely needs to be filled.

God damn that's fucking dumb. Every time these games are fucked up at launch for one reason or another. Stupid decisions all around. COD doesn't do this.

It's not launch yet.

Thus you can't play it.

I'm really not seeing the issue here.

Amusingly, most of the complaints I've seen about the maps go the opposite direction, that they're overly sterile. Plaza is the only one with any real decorations, and it's probably my favorite looking one of the bunch (and very distinctive, IMO).

What are you even pissed off about, that you can't play a game that's not released? Because spoilers, that's what many people can't do.

Overly sterile? The human style maps are far from overly sterile. Not only that, they reuse the same assets everywhere so they all look the same.

Man, I loved all of the maps in the beta. Only one I thought was weak was Regret because of the lack of coloring on each side to identify stuff. Loved the interactive elements on Eden which I think 99% of people still don't know exist.

They are absolutely not. At least arena maps. Too much clutter.

Ok...let's say you bought tickets to a concert that was scheduled for Tuesday. It's the Friday before the the concert starts, and you have a cleared schedule, so you decide to show up at the venue early (on Friday). Would you complain that the band isn't playing yet because YOU happened to show up 3 days early?

But the game hasn't launched yet, lol.

I get that, but after the massive fuck up that was MCC, I would have thought stupid restrictions like this just wouldn't exist, like with practically every other console game release in the last 10 years. This is just an arbitrary restriction for marketing purposes so that people will watch streamers over the weekend.

Early delivery excitement ruined.

Holy shit, holmbom making his spartan jerk off guns in the customization menu. "I hope my dad doesn't walk in on me!" Too funny

Empire was a really good map in the beta. I liked it more than Any of the other maps. I also liked Truth and Regret. Eden wasn't bad either. I'm not too worried about Halo 5's maps. Though a lot of them look similar in the sense that there are a lot of white walls with colored stripes or accents on them.

It's more like, the chef arrives at a restaurant and starts cooking for VIPs inside, but the doors aren't open yet

They are sterile. So many of them are just grey on grey metal boxes made of nothing but grates and pipes everywhere. Even ones like Fathom with an interesting setting don't use that setting other than as a skybox, it's still just grates and pipes. The only one with any kind of color or decoration is Plaza, and that doesn't really have the aesthetics of a Halo map, it looks more like something from Titanfall or Black Ops. 343s art team seriously needs to get some consulting from some of the old Bungie artists because after a number of games they still don't get what Halos aesthetics are supposed to look like. I mean jesus, just look at any of the UNSC maps in Halo 4/5 and then look at something like Rats Nest or High Ground, they don't even look like they belong in the same universe.

They are on Fathom too, but they seem pretty pointless. They just lower the platforms in the area in front of the spawn locations.

Eh. Disagree. Plaza looks like something out of ODST, so I'd say it fits in just fine, and the rest look like... 343's UNSC aesthetic, which is what it is. It doesn't have to look like Bungie's.

Which makes it pretty tough to compete for streamers not on the bullshit whitelist.

Are you really still complaining that you can't play a game online that hasn't been released yet? Really???

They actually change map flow and remove cover to allow you to clamber to diff locations. Like Eden's are:

I am pretty okay with the map situation tbh.

When you consider that we will be getting a decent amount of maps for free in the future.

If the new maps were behind a season pass I could see the complaints.

I think you guys are talking about two different things; the map's geometry, and the map's aesthetics.

Let me put it this way, from what i watched yesterday, i didn't like most of the human maps. If you told me Eden, Empire and fathom were part of one giant map and id believe it.

Plaza and The Rig would also be in that list if it weren't for the fact that one is greener and the other is red.

The breakout maps might as well be made in forge cause all of them look identical. Why Breakout absolutely must be played on those is baffling to me.

Only ones i find interesting so far are the warzone ones cause all of them feel different from one another. But then again, warzone assault uses the same ones, only smaller.

Just a lot of stuff feels off to me.

edit: Coliseum is the only one that feel like Halo to me from what i saw.

Lol apples and oranges.

What about if last time you went to see the band they told you every day for a month that they would be playing so you went to the venue to hear half of 1 song being played poorly before being kicked out of the venue? Then a month later the band offered you a free copy of one of their old albums in a shitty, half-assed effort to make up for the earlier issues.

Do I need to go offline or can I just play it solo?

It won't let you in period if you're online, if you're offline you can get on and play the campaign.

Empire and Eden are remixes, so of course they look pretty similar, but even then... Eden's got the night theme. And Fathom is underwater. Not sure how you could think that's part of the same map.

Why bother consulting with Bungie when they can just rely on your vast expertise & knowledge instead? It'll cost less.

Sure it doesn't have to look like Bungies, but it should at least look like freaking halo, which used to be a grounded universe where things were visually believable for something 500 years in the future and not some awful Tron/Evangelion hybrid. 343 seems to not be inspired by Sci-Fi, but rather Science Fantasy and they seriously need to understand that if they're going to take over a universe with established rules and artistic tone that they can't just throw that in the trash while demanding respect for doing so.

Jesus what a weak argument, you don't need a fucking masters in arts to tell that 343s aesthetics and Bungies intended aesthetics for the different groups in Halo are completely different.

You must be offline, the game menu doesn't launch otherwise and says you don't have verified dlc. Offline will only let you select solo campaign.

Super lame. I get most of my games a few days early and this is the first time I've been limited in what I can do with my own copy. Very disappointed 343.
