Indie Games 2015 [October] Let's talk about anything Indie!

From all the games I bought recently, I love Environmental Station Alpha, Feist, Escape Goat and Cryptark the most. All outstanding, all of them glued me to Steam forever. Galak-Z, Ori and Escape Goat 2 will be mine next week, and there are so many awesome games releasing in the near future and on my wishlist. I found the creativity iOS forgotten when all those F2P market raised a few years ago. Excellent. Just what I needed. Indie love.

Awesome, man. Nice to see you getting into PC.

I'll tell you, I was the same way. I had always been into smaller freeware games like N and Nitronic Rush. but back in 2013, I decided to check out Steam to see what it was about and that was easily the best gaming-related decision I ever made

But it can be really overwhelming. Literally new things every day, countless freeware games, and like 20+ years of older classics.

Yeah I can see why you stayed. I love the variety in the catalog. It has pretty much everything. For me, a great pad and mouse with more than two buttons was what I needed to be comfortable, I dont miss the PS4 anymore and I fear the day my paycheck arrives with so many games on my wishlist lol

Oh god, Ecco the Dolphin. That brought back some childhood memories wit the Game Gear. They always said that the portable version was a step down from the Genesis one. I also tried it on iOS but the controls were unmanageable. Now, with a controller pad and a price of 2.5$, there's not stopping me :D

Replaying Super Meat Boy on PS4. That game is still so good.

GOAT for me

I just think its platforming perfection.

Great to see you loving the indies Matt#

As baddy says it can be overwhelming especially when you go down the rabbit hole that is free games

Its well worth looking back through the previous indie threads or for a quick history check the annual ones - there are so many games coming out now that there will be some outstanding titles that you will love that have slipped through the cracks.

Oh and if you like puzzle games at all then pick up the Hexcells trilogy. (wait for the sale tho)

I better hold on those freeware games for now, Steam sure has a lot of things for me (Hexcells looks rad) discovering games there every day, latest is The Floor is Jelly. Looks like a new gameplay mechanic. Anyone here tried it?

Yeah, wrote some impressions on my blog when it came out

It's not exactly the most groundbreaking puzzler platformer, but the art style and aesthetic is everything. It plays a role in the gameplay and the atmosphere. It's definitely a fun enjoyable experience

Ah, yes looks great. I like this:

The Floor Is Jelly is a fun game, and the difficulty comes not from frustrating challenge but from the gradual layering of new interesting puzzle mechanics. From flowers that bloom in rain and those only sprout without rain (because they're part cat of course) to switches that rotate entire levels, and then switches that rotate only singular platforms, and later Guacamelee-style dimension swapping, The Floor Is Jelly constantly introduces new mechanics that add to the core gameplay in fun ways.

and this
But the game wouldn't be as fun or enjoyable without its artstyle and fluid environments. More than just a simple art style, the jelly world enhances and adds to the gameplay and offers platforming opportunities that solid levels can't. The floor can act as a trampoline, boosting you to great height depending on the distance you fell. You can bounce under spikes by pushing the ground with your momentum. Not only that, the constantly moving worlds, affected by your every movement, is just a joy to watch and never got old over my playthrough.

I thought Steam has the house of innovation right now and I wasn't mistaken... wishlisted, will buy it soon :D

Oh, and the youtube link is broken.

I thought... well I like to build, craft, explore, fight, discover and such things, so I must like Minecraft. To my surprise, it isn't on Steam. Bravo Microsoft and Notch, bravo.

Yeah, Minecraft is so big that it doesn't need to be on Steam. Has nothing to do with Microsoft

You need buy it directly from the game's site

If you do like that genre, you need to put Subnautica on your wishlist

So I had some quality time with Kingdom.
Art style kinda reminded me of S&S, plus some of you recommended it...and wow am I pleased! Another proof that a well executed simple concept can make an amazing game. Highly recommended.

Got two codes for DICETINY, anyone interested?
I'm intrigued, as it reminds me of Emperor's Dice, a game I really enjoyed on my phone. (the board layout looks about the same, at least). Could you please post some impressions?

Can I redeem those in Steam?

Absolutely. Check their store pages for the Steam logo or this message: This game requires a free Steam account to play.

If you buy from anything, make sure you grab the coupon code on the front page (WINTER-ISCMNG-22PERC) for a slightly better deal.

Pretty much all of those games should be redeemable on steam. But if you want to check if you go to the products page and see the first line in the description as 'This game requires a free Steam account to play' then you will get a steam code.

Thank both of you :) Will look for that things, that thing is also on Humble Store. I say that because I like to have all my PC games on 1 place, is a lot easier to manage. There are so many like GOG, Uplay, GMG, Humble Bundle, Amazon, ... that it will be maddening to have them all installed. And I been on Steam since it was born and have all my games there basically.

What could be the best Revolver title? Titan Souls? Ronin? Westerado? OlliOlli 2? I just can buy one... with WINTER-ISCMNG-22PERC of course.

It depends on what kind of game you're in the mood for. Devolver publishes some really great games, so it's hard to go wrong.

You sound like you have a lot on your plate. I'd recommend just holding off a bit. Their games go on sale regularly, and we have a few big sales coming up this year.

Yeah I have a lot of games. Didn't know they had so many sales as well that's nice.

But... Damn OlliOlli 2 and Ronin look awesome. Looking at a youtube from Ronin and it's a... turn-based action platformer. Innovative. And seems great. And OlliOlli 2... stoked with it. Even Titan Souls looks good despite only having one ability. Man, I am starting to know why you guys say "overwhelming"...

I can't recommend Ronin. The initial concept is quite interesting but it controls super clunky and gets a little dull after the buzz of the first few fights wear off.

Oh man. bummer. And some reviews said the same thing. Too bad. Thanks!

So you would say... Does Mark of the Ninja plays as good as it looks?

Edit: Oh boy, Invisible Inc. sounds amazing as well. Damn, why did I have to search for games today? Mark of the Ninja and Invisible Inc. sounds awesome. Must resist...

Mark of the Ninja is fantastic. It definitely plays as good as it looks. It was one of my favorite games that year.

Mark of the Ninja is like one of the best stealth games ever made. It plays better then it looks. I 101% recommend it if you are into cutting dudes and hiding bodies (and who isn't). The special edition version is good, but honestly it doesn't add a huge amount over the base game so if you can get the base with a major discount then you can get that worry free.

I read that on every website I check. All say the same thing about it "one of the best games ever", "best stealth game ever", etc... Also gave me some great Hitman (the first one) memories. How can I resist it now? I heard is 8 hours and can be replayed to be the best ninja of the clan... so is good to me (while Invisible Inc is about 4-5 hours, no). And GMG gave me a 20% off coupon for any game...

Edit: Mark of the Ninja isn't on GMG... :/

Edit: Added Mark of the Ninja and OlliOlli 2: Welcome to Olliwood to my wishlist. Very high up my wishlist.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Hitman: Blood Money, Mark of the Ninja

The best stealth games in the genre IMO

I can't recommend Mark of the Ninja enough

Right now, my top priorities are Ori and the Blind Forest, Mark of the Ninja and Galak-Z:The Interdimensional. Will buy them as soon as I can. The rest of the wishlist (Bug Butcher, OlliOlli 2, Grow Home, Mushroom 11,...) will wait for one of those sales :)

Durinig the Summer Sale, MoTN went down to like $3.74. Ori was discounted to $12 during the Summer Sale, might go lower during the Winter Sale

So yeah, I'd try to wait for sale for those

Galak-Z probably wont get that big a discount besides the 20% because it'll be relatively new this fall/winter.

How can you guys expect me to wait for a sale with so many recommendations? Besides, I sold something from my PS4 past and got $$ more in my monthly gaming budget, so Galak-Z is a given now and Mark of the Ninja sounds way to good not to buy it. Besides, I got so many wishlisted games to buy on sales anyways...

One thing I would like to know... how long is Ori? 8 hours? 20?

This time of year is just a smorgasbord of sales. There might be a Halloween Sale. Last year, there was another big Steam Sale in November. And there's definitely going to the massive store-wide Winter Sale in December

I'd really wait now if you can, at least for MoTN.

As for Ori, I'd say 10 to 12+ hours. I just restarted the game, but had been 66% complete after 9 hours

You guys are not helping lol

Waiting for a sale on Ori and Mark of the Ninja is going to be hard!

Also, I just spotted Savant - Ascent for 2$. That IS cheap. Grabbing it along Ecco soon.

Fat Mask has a Kickstarter right now. I went ahead and backed at the early access tier but they're off to a rocky start. Best of luck to them.

With some scripts, isthereanydeal has a great function called "My Collection" where you can import all your games from Steam, GMG, Amazon, etc. and keep things organized. There used to be a few nice programs that did the same but now all of them I found needed manual entries for each item, which is absurd if you have a large amount already. I would highly recommend doing something like that now as you start. Eventually, you'll end up buying a game you already had if not, which a lot of us have done (repeatedly and embarrassingly).

Starfallen and Fat Mask (reminds of Toto Temple Deluxe) looks fantastic :D

How is South Park the Stick of Truth? Is on sale, 75% off. Looks great...

Ha, I hope that never happens for me (Frost touches wood). Added all those very useful sites indeed, they are of much help, thanks a lot!

If you're a fan of the show, Stick of Truth is an absolute must-play. It's like you're literally playing an episode. And on top of that, it's a really fun Paper Mario-style RPG

Urrg, my time with RPGs is way over. Played every SNES, Gamegear, N64, PS1, GameCube and GameBoy RPG there was. Not into it anymore. Well, there is a ton of other games for me to enjoy...

I have a key for Mark of the Ninja I don't have any use for (got it from humblebundle but already owned the game). Quote me if you want it.

I also have a Fez key that I don't have any use for.

Edit - after reading through the thread I'm giving the Mark of the Ninja key to Matt Frost. Fez key is still up for grabs.
