Halo 5 Multiplayer Coverage! (no campaign spoilers)

Just a heads up for any NYC-GAF

Microsoft is having its grand opening of its 5th ave store. And if you line up, there will be a special event for the halo launch starting at 6pm. But if you line up at 6am, the first 70 people will get a special black band which gives you access to our 7th floor which will be nothing but halo 5 guardians. The event will be streamed lived and major Nelson will take part in it. Once again, just a heads up for any of you interested.

Damn, I'm tempted to try to get in on this. So if I line up at 6am I'll get a band to come back at 6pm to play Halo 5?

The app can include preset profiles for specific games, yeah. Apparently it launches with setups for Forza 6, Halo 5, Gears UE, and Sunset Overdrive:

this is just for the Elite controller right?

damn.... really gotta get me one of those down the line

Everyone gets the app, so I think these will work for everyone. I can change button configurations for normal controllers on the current preview build of the app. So far I haven't played around too much with the app but I did set my right stick to be inverted.

Why do all the multiplayer maps look the same tho?

Zoba touched on this a few pages back. 343 has more homogenous art design, with the main differences being lighting/tint. Some levels are orange, some are yellow, some are blue etc. But the actual assets are reused a lot. This is probably also a case of modern game design and costs. If they play well it's not as much an issue to me.

Does anyone else have the game yet?

I heard from someone today that downloading the day 1 update will prevent you from playing the game right now. Is this true?

Thanks guys!

The level design on a practical and visual level is actually really good in the Campaign. The Forerunner stuff especially is gorgeous and much cleaner than it was in Halo 4. Prefer this version to Bungie's.

Yeah the re-usual of assets is kinda bumming me out right now actually and Plaza doesn't even look like a Halo map.

Looks like it was ripped from a Call of Duty game. :/

Reminds me of Turf, urban maps are just a rarity in Halo. I love the colors on it though. Doesn't remind me of CoD at all, TBH, unless AW had maps like that.

Visually, it looks like an updated turf or odst style to me. Design wise it is very different, but I find that really exciting. Can't wait to see how it plays with the new movement options.

I don't associate dirty, grungy, dark, steam punk like environments with Halo in the slightest. Even Turf, while messy in a sense, has a much more naturalistic feeling to it.

Typically, when I think of Halo, I think of the beauty of natural settings melded with slick high sci fi architecture. It just looks really out of place to me.

I guess now that you mention it, I could possibly see it fitting in with ODST.

But ODST is my least favorite Halo, so I guess that says more about me than the map.

IMO they did not do a great job with the UNSC aesthetic in this game. There are few standout maps in terms of thematics. Plaza is one of them. I don't remember the others off the top of my head.

In short. I think they should have more maps like Plaza; pick a theme and run with it. The Bladerunner theme in Plaza is outstanding + kudos to the maps team for that one. Give us more of that, less UNSC building blocks.

It seems odd to me that in the beta they showed off one Forerunner map, one Covenant map and then one UNSC map, and then in the final game.... just kidding all the rest are reused assets from Empire (the existing UNSC map in the beta)

I wonder if they simply ran out of time or were behind schedule on the multiplayer side of things.

Well that's because we've never been in a place with a ton of civilians in Halo. You're thinking of derelict architecture not city streets.

For some reason I thought Regret was a Forerunner map because of the grayish structures, didn't realize it was a reimagining of Midship. I didn't play the beta, just saw videos here and there.

But aside from that, the point remains. Past Halo games had a wide diversity and split between the different art styles and factions and this seems predominately dominated by samey looking UNSC maps.

Only can hope the DLC improves on this front I guess.

EDIT: So wait, there's two Midships in this game lol?

It's not only art style that I don't like, but also how busy the maps are. I loved the maps way more when they were simple and maybe even color-coded like a lot Halo 3 maps were.

It seems like they just did not have the resources for a lot of stuff that I wish they would have. I'd love to have more maps like Plaza, more game types, etc. But I know they spent a metric FUCKTON of time on their engine this dev cycle so I can forgive all that. The engine will span multiple games and is rock solid. The maps will come in time, and the gametypes as well. No worries from me. Just wishes.

I don't really mind the kinda deceivingly low map count as long as the 15 promised DLC maps are actual unique maps and not just asset swaps and forge maps.

Sounds like some people are streaming the entire campaign so be careful out there. They may have a multiplayer thumbnail but yeah.. Just stick to people that are well known.

I mean some of the DLC maps are pretty much guaranteed to be remixes of current maps that don't have one, set expectations accordingly, IMO.

can we just have non-forge BTB maps

like tell me they didn't delay that otherwise standard feature for a month or so for forge canvas maps

I feel like if it wasn't gonna be Forge maps, someone would have said something by now. Probably launch Forge & BTB at the same time in December.

Gotta be honest, gon be pretty damn disappointed if BTB unique developer maps got ate up by Warzone's resources for Forge maps. Like its bad enough it might not even launch this year, but that would just be...bad lol. Especially since you know they counting that in those free 15 maps.

Flashbacks of Reach's BTB dying so Invasion could li-well, exist

great!

I didn't realized this was in the update, checking it now
