Halo 5 Multiplayer Coverage! (no campaign spoilers)

Does anybody have button layout screencaptures handy? I want to start figuring out which layout would work best for me. Also, I have no clue how to perform the Spartan abilities; will I have to bind some of those (like thrust?) to face buttons and sacrifice being able to do them while aiming? I'm just worried there's too many options to pull it off without paddles.

I asked this somewhere already, but is there any reason not to disconnect from XBL to avoid the patch before I jump into campaign? My connection will take like two days at best to download 9 gigs.

Some these assassinations are just..... :)

The new killfeed all but made the killcam redundant so I can see why they removed it altogether. Even while spectating I find myself easily keeping track of who has what and how they died much better than ever before. Body cam after death, coupled with this killfeed is perfect for most situational awareness.

Disappointed to hear Australia & NZ seem to be region locked in Halo 5. The player pool isn't that big here and if MCC is any indication, we won't be able to get games in a lot of playlists.

Why can't the search just prioritize connection and skill for the first 30-60 seconds and then purely skill level after that.

Check a few pages back for all the layouts.

Thrust has it's own button. B by default, but some schemes have it mapped to LB (which then bumps something else important off to a face button...). The other stuff is contextual (charge is melee while sprinting, ground pound melee while in mid-air, clamber is hitting or holding the jump button near a ledge).

There's going to be some compromise no matter what with a regular controller. Even without the thruster, a typical shooter has more things you'd want to have at your fingertips than buttons you can hit while aiming (aim/shoot/melee/grenade/sprint/jump/crouch is 7, and there are only 6 buttons you can hit without taking your thumbs off the sticks). Then H5 adds thrusters on top of that.

Curious to know what sensitivity some of you are playing it on. Default is 3 and it feels much faster.

Maybe the game being made 60 FPS from the ground up has something to do with it, but the weapon movements are faster than previous Halo games. This isn't a bad thing, I just need to find my comfort zone.

Or you know, give players the option to choose their servers...

So laggy players who teleport around the map and are impossible to kill due to their insane ping can play on the US servers and ruin the competitive integrity of the actual US players' ranked Arena matches?

No thanks.

lol?

If an awful connection was any sort of advantage, everyone would deliberately make themselves lag....

Aussie players were fine on US west servers in BF. Why not Halo?

Halo is trying to be the premiere eSports shooter on consoles. Equal starts, fair and ranked game play. I guess they don't want people making games laggier or whatnot. I mean BF isn't ranked but is it fair for West coast guys to get Aussie people, or people on East Coast US to get European players? Not that it matters much to me. Who knows.

It was definitely very playable from experience. You're not going to get CS ping, but less than 80ms is definitely playable.

Everyone? No, but it's a big enough problem that enough people try either because it works or they think it does. You don't have to look very hard to find people suggesting you worsen your connection to get on the "right side of lag compensation" for COD for example, and getting killed by an invincible red bar enemy in Destiny is all too common for another example. I'm glad somebody is finally putting their foot down on this.

People also join out-of-region servers in Gears of War Ultimate Edition for the lag compensation so that they become bullet sponges. People have confirmed it works on the Gears of War Forums and I have encountered plenty of people sponging shots in Gears UE even after the latest update. I am glad 343i is taking this stance and just capping regions for matchmaking. Who knows how customs works.

I have a couple of recent matches recorded of when I got matched with people from Australia in The Master Chief Collection, it was a lag fest. Keeping that out of Halo 5 is a godsend.

Playing Destiny PvP for the last hour or so I've probably been killed 12+ times by a red bar enemy that was a total sponge and/or teleporting across the screen. Whether they are intentionally lagging their connection, or they have bad internet, or they are just too far away, from my standpoint it really doesn't matter. I'm dying when I shouldn't which is annoying. Disappointing because I feel like the game got a lot of things right but this and a few other things that cheapen it are really holding it back...which is why I went out and bought an xbone, hoping Halo 5 will replace it as my go to PvP game for now.

TFW you have been trying to get Tashi to whitelist you all day so you can play multiplayer with your disc that you have for Halo 5.

Based Tashi. Pls.

Fuck man, Warzone looks like a blast to play. I thought it would be some unbalanced Infinity meets Heavies. But it's regulated well. I've just been watching Gamesager and I think I'm okay with no BTB at launch while this is there.

Also, the Longshot BR is where it's at. I'd love if I could use that instead of the horned iron sights BR in Arena.

Damn that assassination... 343 is making me actually want to use the assassination feature sometimes with all these insane animations. I think people will really like customizing and picking their favorite "taunt".

I bet I end up turning them off (nice feature) after a while anyway but it is a really cool addition.

i've watched a fair amount of videos.... i don't see the esport scene blowing up. it's not THAT different than Halo 4 really.

yeah, the thruster pack and clamber are nice additions but for the majority of people playing their not game changers.

i'm starting to get a bit underwhelmed with it, at least from what i've seen.

I'm a huge assassination whore. I'll go for it even if it means getting killed right after. The new animations are one of the things I'm looking forward to most.

There is no lag compensation in halo though. You get placed in a server out of region, and you're fucked... Simple

Quite honestly, region locking is the icing on what is looking to be a delicios cake. I think that 343 made the right decision. I also think that the aussie/nz players will be happy with the results once the game launches.

Perhaps halo might also retain more players now that they aint going to be fodder on US hosted games anymore.

Well thank you for letting us know.

In relation to the aussies being region locked, is it just Australia & New Zealand that will be matched together?

Never mind about Warzone. There should never be 3 scorpions on the other team in one match. That's just ridiculous. The last Gamesager match, it was 3 scorpions, a wraith and gauss hog for the other team.
