Needs to be grinning. But I love that this movie is giving a different look to its Joker.

I'm not understanding how this is in relation to Ledger, or somehow just an 'safe' extension of his Joker. Did he do something similar with gifts or something? I honestly don't remember
 
Can't really critique it outside of the movie. The side shot at the table looks more in line wih what we'll actually see. And that looks great.

My worry is that they don't get full comic book or full realism and get tangled up in-between where nothing fits. Marvel did a good job fully embracing the comic in the MCU and choosing low key Daredevil for more realism (relative, I am aware that Daredevil still has comic book logic at times). I have serious doubts about this and the whole DCCU.

I don't see it as "serious", but just them trying to make them look grimy. I mean hey, these guys are criminals, scumbags, etc. I doubt the movie will be all that serious.

#suicidesquad is only trending worldwide right now on Twitter and the trailer has more views than the BvS one. Most of the impressions from my timeline love it.

I read this as Shaanyboi tries really hard to justify an actor taking his job way too seriously, and/or a studio trying way too hard to make up stories about Jared Leto so their movie has a snowball's chance in hell of outdoing a post-mortem performance by Heath Ledger.

Jared leto is nearly a year older than Ben Affleck. Also sure, ruin a character other people like just because one that you like looks different. That makes perfect sense.

The trailer made more views than the Batman v Superman trailer. The movie has Batman, too. It's not going to bomb.

It's subjective, but in my opinion the designs are very good. Like I said before, Deadshot and Harley Quinn are on point. Joker is also on point, he's just inspired by Grant Morrison's Joker and All-Star Batman and Robin's Joker. Killer Croc looks like Knightfall's Croc. Also, I think Katana looks like her comic book counterpart, but I'm not sure on that.

Well, this thread went about as well as expected.

Dude looks fine. He's just broken out of Arkham (or is in the process of breaking out of Arkham, and a goon tosses him a coat. He's still wearing the scrubs but doesn't GAF because... he's the Joker. He's crazy.

As for the rest of the movie, I think it looks great. It's dialing into the crazier, darker side of the comic booky spectrum, which is fine, because... so did the source material. Marvel clearly owns the family friendly section of the block, so why not do something different? FWIW, everyone I know (still in college) loved the look of the trailer, especially the people who are sick of superhero movies.

And Leto just went a little nuts in filming because that's what happens when you go full method when you're playing the Joker. It's all good.
 
It's like every single artistic decision in the DC Cinematic Universe is designed to annoy me on some level. Increasingly for me I don't think it will matter how good the film is, I'm not sure I'll ever get over how it looks and the casting decisions that have been made.

I think I'll wait for reboot number 8 sometime in my 60s when I finally get that TAS styled movie.

Since when are characters are always the age of the actor. Many american school based movies would be very weird.

Also the theory has points. It's not a fact, it could very well not be that way, but it still could be and that's beyound me just feeling better. Look it up, there are some interesting arguments to be made.

I know it means nothing, but the first trailer, if you can even call it that, has more views on YouTube than any of the BvS trailers.

It's not going to bomb.
 
Im not feeling it much, but at this point he HAS TO separate himself from the other Jokers. He just cant look and act like the rest. He could look/act exactly like Ledger, Hamill or Nicholson and give a better performance than them and people would never give him the credit for it because he was too similar to them. Its pointless to copy them.
Ask Troy Baker about that.

Sorry I didn't respond to you before. I was writing my post while you posted.

Yeah, they are grimy, so more "serious". I mean, Enchantress is like a fairytale's witch in Ostrander's run. In the movie, she looks devilish. I believe the movie will have its funny moments. I'm just speaking for the designs.

No it's the media that adds their spin and ridiculousness to the stories to get hits. Jared's been having a lot of fun. He was telling some fans in a meet and greet how excited he was for us to see the movie and just tongue in cheek said they were going to lock him away once the movie comes out but then media picked up it like he was serious.

Yes, how dare I not deride a movie that is still the better half of a year away based on an Empire cover and a vague trailer. I'm just another tool for the system, maaaan.

This film made Harley Quinn the number 1 Halloween costume a year before it even releases. Remember everyone dressing up as Ledger Joker? Yeaah it's not going to bomb.

Not really. I've looked it up and read the full theory. The majority of it amounts to Joker and Jason both beginning with J and wishful thinking from people who just hate the idea of Joker having Tattoos. Also it still doesn't address my biggest issue. You're completely destroying a character many reader enjoy just because one you like looks different.
 
I like it. He looks psychotic and scary. Its a little different but so was Ledger. And I have no doubt that Leto's performance will be great.

Ayer probably thinks he looks badass lol, but I think instead it's really gaudy and trashy. It's refreshing. Comic book costumes in films either tend to look really cheap or very well put together. Not much room for other interpretations

Between the purple lambo and the rumors of him playing 2pac I love what they're going for here, it's different

Nerds seem to get especially offended at the tattoos for some reason, maybe the face ones are supposed to be stupid....this twat puts lipstick and white face makeup on regularly in some comics

If I was going to get pissy about a new creative team reinterpreting a pop-culture icon that has existed for decades before I was even born, I wouldn't be reading comics.

You don't have to deride the movie, just the hilariously lame attempts at creating "controversy".

Unless you want the industry being a bunch of assholes who never drop character to the point where they're mailing dead animals to their cast members, just recognize what's going on here.

Leto doing his "joker voice" at 30StM concerts is also so embarrassing I can't even wrap my head around it. His band members must want to push him offstage and let the throng have their way with him.
