To be fair, the trailer clearly takes place downtown. It's actually fairly accurate to the demographics. There are far, far, more white people downtown than there are in most of the residential neighborhoods (including my own)"Nowhere to be found" was clearly the wrong thing to say but my point is that we have a game set in a city where the majority is black but you would never know that from the trailer. In arguments made against having very many people of color in games like The Order or Assassin's Creed, we're always told that there are so few non-whites because of demographics at the time (no matter that perceptions of the number of non-whites living in those settings are colored by popular media that whitewashes everything) but the demographics argument always disappears when the inverse occurs.
Thanks, I've learned from the best around here.Nice backpedal.
Wouldn't be too sure about either of those. Corporations would just repackage the message into ways that wouldn't immediately illicit either type of imagery.
You're already seeing that with the sex robots in Japan (this isn't even to mention cultural differences at work).
Truth is slavery is still a thing in parts of today's world, whether it be indentured service or girls sold into sex prostitution rings. As long as it doesn't directly draw comparisons to African slavery in America or plights of women as it is in the Western world, corporations would be able to find some levels of success in marketing dolls just the way it's hinted at in the trailer.
Humanity never truly learns from its history; it just repeats it a little less viciously in cycles with a different dress each time.
Change the title FFS. Make it simple like Heavy Rain instead of BEYOND: Two Souls.

....."black race"? Dafuq?
Race, as a social construct, is a group of people who share similar and distinct physical characteristics
Yeah, not sure why people are thinking Jennifer Lawrence.

This is the short-haired girl from The Following TV show, right?
The gaming industry will fall all over itself proclaiming a story composed of elements that would be considered rote in other media to be the greatest thing ever. See: The Last of Us.
Got my fingers crossed for an in-game purchasable 6000 SUX that isn't a car.I'd buy that for a dollar!
Yup, that old lack of representation in games axe.Seems like there's an old axe to grind.
But David Cage is the writer he is. It's not so much that criticism is surprising but the apparent belief from some of the die hard haters that he's somehow going to wake up and write something that is Oscar worthy in their eyes. He isn't going to.
Until Dawn doesn't take itself seriously given that it's a teen slasher, and does it well. Cage tries to write seemingly serious scripts, and isn't great at it, but that doesn't mean we need to shoehorn him into writing a teen slasher horror. He does his thing and will continue to be average at it, and I don't know what else can be expected?
But you were wrong here. At least you tried. 10/10 for the effort.Yup, that old lack of representation in games axe.
Lmao. David Cage is at it again. Can it possibly get worse than Beyond: Two Souls?
Yes, it was called Heavy Rain.
Speaking of why did Ethan wake up with Origami figures? Oh yea because of reasons.

Man, it didn't take long to turn a reveal trailer into a racial debate. I seen all kinds of races in that trailer. Do we really need to pick apart a trailer that takes place hundreds of years from now? Are people really this insecure?
Even something like 'Kara' would have been a better title.
The title makes it seem like Detroit is the character, but it's a Sci-Fi Detroit and I'm sure David Cage won't care about being faithful to the realities of the city.
'To Become Human'
'Knife Sprinter'
'Phantom in the Container'
Something else.
I wrongly used hyperbole, which people like you will harp on instead of addressing the actual point but I'm not wrong about how people pick and choose when they want games to mimick real life demographics. But you were wrong here. At least you tried. 10/10 for the effort.

Key word: Does it well.
It doesn't succeed simply because it's a teen slasher.
As for what people expect, people expect an artist to hone their craft and learn from mistakes and criticisms. If not, that, then know what you do well and stick to that and leave the writing to the professionals. The fact that QD has brought on new writers gives hope that this could be a QD game with a good story.
Maybe the title is David Cage's subtle suggestion to current day Detroit.( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Becoming Kara
Just call it Kara again. I mean, the tech demo was called Kara, but it's a tech demo. You can't buy it or download it. If you go to a Gamestop or the PS store and type in Kara, you'd immediately find the game upon release.

So far the release structure has been
Indigo Prophecy; Occult, spiritual and incoherent schlock: Bad
Heavy Rain; Traditional detective/mystery thriller: Good
Beyond Two Souls; Ghostly, action drama and incoherent schlock: Bad
...Please, follow the pattern, Detroid: Become Human, even if you have the same ring to your name as Beyond Two Souls!
I'm imagining a Samus/Robocop mash-up....Please, follow the pattern, Detroid: Become Human, even if you have the same ring to your name as Beyond Two Souls!
From the video - the black chick and the asian dude look like the people from The Walking Dead.
Glenn and Sasha
Beyond: Two Souls

Detroit: Become Human

DO NOT COMPLICATE DA TITLE MAN!

That's some broad generalization about the quality of an entire sub genre.
Next you'll tell me video games are just for kids.

I just wanna let people know I absolutely love Heavy Rain and even though QD/David Cage is hokey storytellers I just love the diversity their games give to the AAA industry - a peak of gaming industry that's dominated by fixation on copying the trendsetters to no end.
He's normally right 99.9% of the time about representation.
Kudos to David Cag-eyy for being in the .1%. It'll still be horrible drivel.
HyperBitHero has a really good video on that actually. Supernatural elements.Yes, it was called Heavy Rain.
Speaking of why did Ethan wake up with Origami figures? Oh yea because of reasons.
That game had massive plots holes.
First of all, I never implied the trailer looked bad at all. Secondly, I don't need to explain my opinions to you. There are plenty of people online that have critiqued David Cage games.dunno, hard to say since you conveniently don't explain yourself on either end
what about this looks worse then Beyond: Two Souls? What was bad about the B:TS? What is David Cage at again?
Some details would be nice
It's pretty sad honestly. My favorite quote from Pi is applicable here, just slightly tuned.Man, it didn't take long to turn a reveal trailer into a racial debate. I seen all kinds of races in that trailer. Do we really need to pick apart a trailer that takes place hundreds of years from now? Are people really this insecure?
Hold on. You have to slow down. You're losing it. You have to take a breath. Listen to yourself. You're connecting a [reaction] I had with a [reaction] you might have had and some [racist] hogwash. You want to find [racism] in the world, you will be able to find it everywhere. [Racism] from a mere street corner to your front door. [Racism] riding on the elevator. When your mind becomes obsessed with anything, you will filter everything else out and find that thing everywhere.
