Detroit: Become Human (Quantic Dream) Announced for PS4

I'd be lying if I said I didn't really like Heavy Rain and I'd also be lying if I said I am not looking forward to this even with David Cage at the helm. Just not looking forward to the near rape scene, you know it will be there.

HECK YEAH. Was hoping QD would make a game from that KARA tech demo. Looks great. The title Become Human sounds better without Detroit in it.

This. I really didn't think it would happen anymore after all the time since that KARA demo. This was freaking great.

It's funny how David Cage games attract so many people who do not like David Cage games but can't stop talking about them any time they are announced/mentioned! It's about time most accept he isn't going to create anything else and move on.

Anyway, sign me up. Prefer adventure games to shooters and what not.

Yup on the first bit. It's like people don't know what kind of game to expect and just thread whine about how pretentious and shit it will be.

It's a different style of interactive game QD make, people need to live with that.

I say this having not even enjoyed Beyond Two Souls, though this has me excited.

It's pretty sad honestly. My favorite quote from Pi is applicable here, just slightly tuned.

Jmood88, this is for you:
Thanks for thinking of me but it has absolutely nothing to do with anything. What I see is that, once again, a setting is being whitewashed and, like I said, a handful of black characters doesn't change that.

What the fuck? There are posts in here talking about race? Guess I imagined those black and Asian characters walking around. So fucking sick of these bullshit posts.

Something I just noticed. Of all the games announced and new info on other games we have. This game has the most discussion going on lol.

I would say there is no f'in way it looks this good. But I saw what QD did with last gen tech and I've seen The Order. So I will just sit here mind blown.

Also looks like the Androids have taken a lot of peoples jobs and they are pissed. And hey you can get one for the low low price of $7999!

I just hope you don't play as Kara but as a person who interacts with her. You can't judge someones humanity by being them.

Didn't like few of David Cage games, they look very pretty but weak gameplay and story. Hope this is going to be good. Is this in realtime? It seems to be a CGI using in game assets.

Almost definitely realtime. Their games can look that good and this big boost is not surprising given how good Beyond looked on PS3.

...that's a really interesting point.

But she's why anyone will want to play the game in the first place, so Kara's the protagonist.

I'm in. Say what you will about David Cage but I enjoyed Heavy Rain and everything but the last act in Beyond.

Can we still apply recognizable story structure to Beyond Two Souls? Pulp Fiction was blandly linear compared to that one, man :P

Do you get salty and not play any games where the character is white or something? What a weird complaint.

Who said any of that? You can both have issues with a product, and still ultimately be a consumer.

And representation within gaming isn't going to improve until people stop referring to those who have issue with it as individuals who are "salty," "bitching," "nitpicking," etc.

what is your complaint exactly?

oh wait nm

Even France has more black people than what's shown in that trailer

guess we were looking at 2 different trailers. There were tons of black people in that video. Or are you trying to say white people don't exist in a psuedo future Detroit area?

Those images look nice. I enjoyed Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls. I even enjoyed Indigo Prophecy when I rented it. Hard as hell though. (I was young)

So to sum it all up. Quantic Dream announces a new game.

Everyone is offended.

Great job Quantic Dream!

Whose everyone?

I enjoy Cage's slop. It's pretty to look at and fun to fuck around and break QTEs and other parts of the game.

Also, I get to mock the poor plot points and lazy characterization as the game progresses.

well, having finally played, & not enjoyed, beyond: two souls is what totally kills my interest as i watched this. all i see is more excellent graphics, more pretentiousness, & more over-wrought melodrama...

heavy rain wasn't perfect. but, as a mystery/investigation, it at least somewhat worked, while bts, as a pure adventure, just didn't. & detroit looks much more bts than hr to me...

As long as we get a QTE sequence where Kara is impeded by chickens.

Yup. You never said these games weren't fun to enjoy lol. I feel people buy and watch these games generally just to have fun with and make fun of them.

Without exchanging essays, I'd say on the whole it is most likely slightly easier to write a teen slasher script where people expect cheese and cheap scares, than a serious and emotional script where the audience has far higher expectations. No diss to Supermassive at all, but I don't see these two script styles as easy to compare.

As for leaving the writing to the pros, I did expand on my post before you quoted, there isn't many challengers out there doing big budget choose your own adventure titles. Lots of smaller choose your own adventure studios write better scripts than Cage, but most of them work on lower budgets and have less of the visual impact Cage can produce given QD budgets. Would we like Cage to potentially be another writer with QD's backing, sure, but he's not and that's why I find the expectations that he's going to be to sometimes strange.

What some people seem to need is another studio with budgets like this challenging Cage, not a constant desire for him to be far better than he is.

I hope Supermassive is the first of more studios to get into this genre of games. And if he can't be a better writer, he should find people who are and stay on the technical side of development.

If people accept that he will never be a good writer, then people will be baffled as to why he is still allowed to helm a story. The criticisms against him will still remain.

But my original argument was that "David Cage can't write" isn't just a baseless troll meme that people blindly regurgitate in every David Cage thread. There is plenty of basis for it. 3 whole games worth in fact.

That's some broad generalization about the quality of an entire sub genre.
Next you'll tell me video games are just for kids.

You are vastly misinterpreting my post.

That trailer was amazing. Especially the music. I'd put it in my top 5 for this year so far easily.

The whole robots-rise-against-humans thing has been done countless times, but I'm interested in seeing how it can be implemented into a game, and how Cage does it.

I just hope this is more like Heavy Rain than Beyond: Two Souls, meaning more gameplay oriented. But I don't mind Cage's games and love showing off the graphics to other people who usually don't play games (like my parents). They are perfect for that.

And the tech demo for this came out before Ex Machina, so I don't get the people saying this is a ripoff of that.

There's quite a bit more than a handful of non-white characters. Plus it's a futuristic Detroit that clearly has been built up from where it is today. It appears to be a bustling metropolis ala NYC so the demographics reflect that.
