Detroit: Become Human (Quantic Dream) Announced for PS4

Oh wow, that looks incredible, but it looks like a game version of Real Humans/Humans. Might be interesting, if it doesn't go the same direction as the shows.

They also really need to drop Detroit though, just call it Become Human.

Yeah, It is clear this is the upgraded Beyond engine, but it is also clear it looks much better overall than Beyond. QD do real time cutscenes, so this is probably what it look like. It looks better than the Order and the world seems much bigger and more populated.

I don't know, it looks great from the trailer, but The Order's presentation was damned near flawless. It looks like the motion capture tech is on the same level, but it's going for a much larger scale than The Order from the looks of it, so it probably won't be nearly as detailed overall. It's going to look fantastic, but I seriously doubt it's going to use anything more than post-process AA and the world looks to mainly be simple geometry.

So The Last Sorcerer is 30fps and this is 60fps?

Is there a 60fps video out somewhere? The trailer linked is 30fps. The prerendered segment at the start does look a bit odd, like frame interpolation, but doesn't seem to actually be 60fps. I'll leave the technical aspect of it to DigitalFoundry, but I don't think they'd give up fidelity for frame rate in an adventure game.

Edit: I'll leave this in here, but the first 33 seconds may not be prerendered, but it seems like there's a noticeable drop in fidelity from 33 seconds on which my just be due to the addition of characters to the scenery as they're in pretty stark contrast to the world around them. There is also a noticeable shift in the motion as well, but it may just be that the camera is locked at that point rather than shifting all over.

DLC will be the optional HK-47 Dialogue script

"Hey darlin' how can I help you?"

A: "I'd like a drink, Meatbag"
B: "I'd like a sandwhich, Meatbag."
X: "Come back later, Meatbag".
Y: "Exclamation: Die, Organic Meatbag!"

Wow, so they're gonna use androids to explore the idea of "What does it mean to be human?"

holy shit what an idea

why haven't every single piece of sci-fi fiction done this before

I hope she comes into contact with ROBOT RACISM, it could be a powerful allegory

Seriously right.

When Cage came on stage and started talking like Cage I couldn't help but laugh. Then he tried to explain the core concept of the game's scenario like it's something new, and it didn't help.

I hate to have to tell you guys this but every story has been done several times over. There really is no new ground to cover. Foreigner in a strange land is a tale as old as time. Robots with feelings and trying to fit in is just another way to tell the tale.

That's not really a reason to not do it hopefully better and from a new perspective.

Yea the robot trying to be human has been done before, doesn't mean the story can't still be good or given a fresh coat of paint.

Oh boy, can't wait to see what memes and random dumb plot twists come from this David Cage interactive experience.

Please no creepy romance. You're 0-3 Davey, just don't try anymore.

No creepy romances are a failure of the David Cage.

You guys forget about the scrapbook.

He’s afraid because he has spent the last 12 months looking at pictures of Ellen Page. In his studio a 2000 page script lies scattered with images of Ellen from the age of eight through to adulthood.

i'm seeing cage as possibly good for the 'fresh coat of paint' part. it's the 'good' part i question :) ...

That's 100% Sam Douglas.

You're that certain huh? Alright then. You are the QD expert after all.

I for one welcome the man back with open arms. I'm glad that his experience making Heavy Rain was (I assume) a good one, and that he's willing to collaborate with the developer again. Like I said, I just hope he plays a prominent character, and not somebody who's just around for a couple of scenes.

i think we can rest assured that david cage isn't the person to give it that new coat though

The name is so baaaaad...

But I am so excited! The Kara Tech Demo was the best thing Cage has ever done. Here is hoping he can expand that into a full game.

I would say it is more impressive than the Order. For instance, even this character model looks pretty superb, as is the IQ:

This model looks really high quality...he has to play some major role in the game me thinks...

This game is looking bonkers. Day when-I have-the-time-and-money-for-it.

I have this strange feeling that this time the game will get universal praise. Aside from the stupid title.

Detroit: Become Human.

If it sells well,
CSI Miami: Become Detective.

Yes, i have waited this. Kara demo back in the day was impressive.

Trailer reminded me of Real Humans (Äkta Människor), Swedish science fiction drama.

Not sure if it's been mentioned in the thread already but I'm pretty sure the title is just 'Detroit' isn't it? There is no subtitle on the trailer or blog post for the announcement.

Seems like 'Become Human' is just the tagline or something.

Quantic Dream games always have fantastic potential.

I recently just replayed Indigo Prophecy, written by Cage, and the first half of the game is actually really, really good. Then... yeah.

The world looks cool, rain and lights futuristic cities, yes please.

Yeah the title is just 'Detroit', which makes it even worse lol looks like it is subtitled

The game looks intruiging though. I know it's just a debut trailer but I hope there's a more personal conflict in the game than just "robot racism".

That's how I got it.

Whites are increasingly becoming the minority in this country so why is it assumed that in the future whites would be the majority in a city like Detroit?

Ahhh so your argument is we don't see enough Latinos...

Someone needs to tell these people they don't have enough black people to be in a photo from downtown Detroit.....

...but seriously, keep up the fight, every time someone like you tries to find racism where it isn't, you win more and more people to your side and help keep real racism a seriously regarded topic, good job!

I can't wait to find out this is finally the game where Cage learnt to write, because the aesthetic of this future is fucking awesome, and Kara is just the tech demo I wanted to see come to life.

BUT.

I will never buy a Quantic Dream game until I see the general consensus. People who appreciate narrative, writing and characters will have to tell me it's passable before I spend money/time on it.

When we stop seeing in colors, racism will end. Children of South Park seems to have solved it:

I am so impressed by theme of game. Can anyone recommend some games or movies with similar theme?

Deus Ex series and Ex Machina is on the list

game looks absolutely amazing. The title is fine with me, it's a matter of opinion, not fact. Probably one of the best looking games visually to date and the emotion in the game, yes i feel it.

I dunno. Cage seems to have a great vision but the story and gameplay falls flat in the middle and end of his games.

Hopefully, this will be the exception though.

Has this game beaten the Uncanny Valley entirely? Because seriously, I see absolutely nothing abnormal or fake about the Kara face. Looks real. Same could be said for the most part for The Order as well really. But with the water on the face and everything, I was seriously blown away by that end part.

It doesn't look photo real, has some gamey quality to it, but it's absolutely not uncanny valley material. Stellar stuff.

Also, the wizard tech demo will make it into a game on PS5 or PS4's end of life-cycle, if this is what they do!

Yeah, I don't get any uncanny valley complaints either. Plus in her defense she is a robit.

Realized you can see water drops falling off her earlobe. Great detail.

I absolutely loved the Kara demo so I'm really glad they went in that direction.

I'm praying that's a working title though. Really is an awful name.
