Detroit: Become Human (Quantic Dream) Announced for PS4

Also, it looks like the game has multiple protagonists with KARA being the main lead? That'd be great to see the story from different POV.

I've had no interest in Quantic Dream games but damn it's so good to see Kara again definitely in my radar now.

Love the setting. Getting the same tepid feeling about it though that Beyond gave me. Kind of turgid characters and story, everything a bit dull. I hope they can do something different with this, the setting alone is pretty cool, will be a visual tour de force at the very least so I'll be getting it. I just have little faith that Cage and co can give us engaging character we want to spend time with, their characters always drain the soul out of me :S

I really hope David Cage is not writing this one. I also hope the order in which this story is told make more sense than Beyond Two Souls.

It's hard to say definitively but it seems to me that Detroit is a significant setting, not just any random city. The billboard at the start of the trailer basically hammers the point home: cars made Detroit prosperous once, and androids will make Detroit prosperous again. ("Motor City" vs. "Android City")

Because it's Quantic Dream and David Cage, it's possible that Detroit the game's depiction of Detroit the city will be wildly inaccurate or highly allegorical. But I hope the game explores Detroit's industrial and socioeconomic history as a backdrop for the rise of androids. It would be a big waste of a setting otherwise.

Kara says in the trailer that Detroit is significant because that is where it all started. Detroit is where all the Androids are made and was the city to house the first creations

Detroit was the city that started the Android revolution from what Kara is saying in the trailer. So Detroit is where it all started. Hence why Detroit is the main title.

And it looks like Kara is the first bot designed to completely immitate a human outside of menial tasks. So the goal was to " become human ". With Kara, it looks like they succeeded.

I just wanted to copy LA's City of Angels. Detroit Rock City, Car manufacturers, Robocop, and now Androids.

It's like "New York: Where our hero is from"

"Midgar: Cloud is starting out here VII Remake"

Glad to see Kara became a full game. Hopefully the actually story is good and the gameplay is solid. The trailer didn't really sell me on its concept just yet.

Trailer looks good/interesting. Should have just called it "K.A.R.A" or "KARA". Or even "Detroit"

It needs the subtitle so they can copyright/trademark the name. I hope they tweak that subtitle or change the name altogether though because it is very bland. iDetriot would have the name of the city in a format that they can copyright and evokes the robotic nature of the character. Even just changing it from become to becoming sounds better to me.

It's called Detroit: Become Human?

Looks ok, but David Cage will probably fuck it up.

If they are using original prototype from 2012 as starting point for this game then Kara is literally mistake that shouldn't exist, QA person just felt sorry for her and allowed her to "live". Also implied that there has been androids before her who show independent thought patterns and feelings, but those have been disassembled.

You showing a picture of some white people in Detroit has absolutely nothing to do with what I was talking about. I never said that white people didn't exist in Detroit or that it was hard to find white people in Detroit. What I've been saying is that it's sad that even in a city where the vast majority of the population is black that we can't even have a game that tries to match the demographics of the city.

The census reported 70.1% White, 22.8% African American, 0.3% Native American, 3.3% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 2.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.2% of the population.

Whelp...

On a side note, sad to see only .3% of my peoples... especially in a heavily NA area at one time. :(

As far as this game goes... goodness, it looks astounding. I am so eager to know the story.

This is the first game announcement in a while that was not leaked to hell and back. Looks really interesting.

This includes metro Detroit which includes a shit ton of suburbs and most of Wayne county, not the city proper. Most Detroit statistics that include metro Detroit are very skewed and do not give a proper representation of the city. The trailer was not representative of the population of the downtown area and areas in which the trailer takes place.

BUT BUT BUT

Its the future so none of that really matters anyway, it is just disappointing that this would have been the perfect opportunity for more POC

BUT BUT BUT

The game looks great and seems to have a very multicultural cast, just ont one that is necessarily representative of current Detroit

Gotcha, that I can agree with. But is also is a trailer, and they can also change by them hopefully reading these posts. We also do not know the context of the plot yet either.

What is the name of this type of future? Wouldn't be a Dystopia since not everything is bad here. Not a Utopia either since there are factions really pissed about losing their jobs.

Is there a specific name for this? Where humans are being replaced by Androids and we start going into the realm of AI and not even being able to recognize an AI figure in a crowd or even in a conversation?

I think Ex Machina had a word for it, just can't remember.

He is not writing it alone at least. He is taking the backseat on this one to focus on directing and core ideas as per his own words.

Is that Shelby? Haha
If it isnt Shelby, then something is seriously wrong. Pretty certain that's him. Would love for him to have a bigger role in this.

Finally watched the conference. This was the highlight for me. QD make absolutely incredible games - Heavy Rain and Beyond were my favourite games of their respective years and Cage is one of my favourite people in the industry. I can't wait for this.

That's one of the worst video game titles in a while. I'm sure David Cage was 100% behind this premise because it's even easier to justify shower scenes and rape scenes. Jury's still out on the offensive portrayal of minorities though.

I'd be at least a little more interested if this emotional game about robotic life learning about humanity in Detroit didn't share so many similarities with my favourite schlock film.

What. The. Fuck?

I love sci-fi stuff like this, day one for me. Title is bad though, why not just "become human" and drop Detroit from it. I mean Detroit as name recognition will NOT help you sell copies I don't think.

You forgot his obsession with magical homeless people, and his misrepresentation of those with mental illnesses.
