Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

Guess that's my cue to take a break. Hopefully they get them back up fast. The game has been playing like a dream and I've had very few instances of obvious lag.

It's all over GG, hope you all had fun with halo 5 guardians

Someone explain permanent reqs to me. Can I actually have a BR every game or am I gonna forever have to use the lame ass AR and Magnum.

Whole system confuses the fuck outta me

perma unlocks allow you to spawn with that weapon once you reach that req level, so the normal unmodded BR needs req 3 before you can spawn with it, which is about 3-5 minutes of game time.

Plasma rifle wasn't in Halo 4 either. The Storm rifle replaced it.
And the Plasma Repeater(?) in Reach before that.

Better looking and functioning than I recall the Plasma Rifle ever being, not accounting for dual wielding, or CE's Plasma stun.

some silly reason they stopped using it, instead we get the peashooter repeater.

iirc, in-universe it's a mix of it being too inefficient from a manufacturing standpoint (Covenant armories kind of blew their load pumping out all those Brute Plasma Rifles during the Schism and Ark conflicts) and having some outdated tech behind it, whereas the Storm Rifle is its boring-but-practical replacement. Up close it annihilates in PvP and PvE, at least in H5.

That being said, I was really excited to see Elites running around dual-wielding Plasma Rifles back on Reach. It really made you feel powerless by comparison.

The weapons are only for warzone. For example, a br is a permanent card because it doesn't get used up (you have it forever). You can spawn with a br in war zone if your team reaches req lvl 3 I think.

Other permanent items include all the cosmetics and emblems and stuff which can be equipped for all mp modes

There are some that are permanent and some that are temporary depending on the weapon. The BR and its variants are permanent so when you get it to drop out of one of your packs you can get it all the time once you hit lv 3.

Thanks for the explanations! I was hoping to just rock a Carbine every game. I'm glad Arena at least doesn't have all this req shenanigans.

Played 3 MP games since launch and now the servers are gone..

Why aren't more people talking about the sound in this game? Just popped my earphones in(Sony XBA H1) via the adapter and my jaw hit the floor.

first game on Warzone for me 30 mins ago, did'nt have a clue what i had to do but it was a blast :-)
Lol I know what you mean. I was so lost just running around and shooting random enemies. Still had fun tho haha. Need to find some people to play this game with.

I'm extremely concerned Halo 6 is going to pull a Halo 3 and we'll just have playable Chief / Blue Team and Osiris will just be supplementary.
Yeah, that would be the opposite extreme. Wouldn't like to see them put on the back burner, so to speak.

That being said, being able to keep a Fireteam on rotation almost like an RPG party where you could customize your characters per squad, loadouts, etc. would be pretty insane. Maybe even do pseudo-RPG elements like finding new equipment for them or somehow incorporating skill trees, e.g. "fight through abandoned warehouse full of Covenant to capture or kill Jackal spy while evading Sentinel patrols" could be a pretty straightforward mission as Chief, but if you had a party made up of Locke, Kelly, Vale and Fred, it could end up being a completely different engagement.
Dunno about skill trees, but if they choose to stick with and expand the squad mechanic, I hope they make each Spartan more individualistic from a gameplay perspective. I know Kelly's supposed to be a lil' faster, and Linda has a bigger motion tracker, but a lot of that's too subtle, I think.

So I've played enough FFA and Slayer to be ranked in the lower end tiers of the onyx division for each, and I absolutely do not care for this game. Even objectively looking at this game and not thinking of it as an entry in the Halo series, It's just too similar to the other FPS games coming out/currently out, and doesn't handle the mechanics quite as well. Before I start listing my opinions, let me just say that I absolutely LOVED Halo 3 and 4 equally, so it's not just an, "old man yells at cloud" situation.

I think it's odd that some mechanics in the gameplay discourage being the aggressor in multiple target situations (such as the lackluster radar, the sprint stoppage under fire, and the shield charging mechanic where you have to be completely still for it to charge) while others such as the clambering and the poor man's armor boosting says otherwise. It's such a mixed bag of mechanics and it feels as if 343 just took a look at every game out and sprinkled their gameplay into this game.

There's just something about Chief. Notice the instant change going from playing as Osiris team to the first mission with Blue Team. There is this familiarity there, and I felt instantly more connected. On Osiris, I'm finding Buck is most relatable (probably because of ODST), followed by Tanaka who probably has the most personality. Because I saw the round table, Laura Bailey is a good addition but I just don't care about Vale and I cared more about Nightfall Locke than I do about Halo 5 Locke. Maybe instead of Vale, Talitha Mercer should have been brought as a Spartan.

The affinity for Blue Team comes from the fact they are Chief's childhood friends, almost family.

this just seems like conflicting statements to be

One thing I'm really digging about this is how the movement abilities allow you to turn the table on your enemies. I was getting shot at by 2 guys in a Warzone base and I used boost to get behind one and assassinate them, and then 4 shot the other with the BR. Makes you feel like a god damn superhero.

I think maybe something like giving each Spartan their own unique starting weapon with special abilities might add something to make them unique. Like Linda(or Kelly, whichever is better at sniping I can't even remember) has a special sniper with extra ammo, extended range, and rapidfire or something like that.

if you are standing completely still for your shields to recharge you are doing it wrong.

You don't have to be still... You just have to be not sprinting.

I'm on mission 9 I believe but I don't understand the complaints either.

It fixed everything I hated about Halo 4. It feels like I have more freedom in how I approach combat than I ever have before. That's exactly what I wanted.

Exactly man. The freedom is awesome. Even in the smaller levels there are airshafts you can enter and approach the enemies in different ways. Really nice addition. But the new moves like the Thruster Pack is perfect to dodge away from an enemy if he is too close or away from a grenade. Ground pound is just great fun too. And the small things like breaking through walls and stuff is nice too. It's the little things that count. My ass is being kicked on Legendary in mission 2 but I am loving it, haha.
