Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

Thanks for the games Elzar, Blue and co. Really need fireteam members to show up differently on radar or in the huds like in Battlefield, hard to get an understanding of where people where a lot of the time. Lots of fun though, some definite clips in those games.

Stormbreak >>>> ARC >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Apex.

I find the beginning Of the matches on apex suck so bad If your team doesn't capture the spire

Both of the matches I've played on Stormbreak thus far tend to snowball uncontrollably in favor of whichever team takes the Fortress, since doing so means that they probably snagged Commander Cocoa Puffs. Which gives them a 150 point lead and a dominant map position.

Ain't no coming back from that.

One thing I'm hoping is part of their post-launch support is tweaking boss spawns on Warzone. Randomized order and location would be fantastic, as would more bosses in general.

Mission 5

Oh hellzzzzzzzzzzz yeaaaaaaah,
Warden Eternal is a goner. I took my chance when he had his back turned to me and I used my SAW to its full potential on the orb on his back and that was enough to kill him. Man I was like.... WTF, he's a goner already? So it really is indeed all about that orb. The fight didn't last 2 minutes.

THis fight could have made me go back to Heroic but now I have all the motivation to go on with Legendary.

My first encounter lasted no more then a few seconds... He charged at Tanaka and fell off the platform.

Oh.... :(

Well... It looks good for sure, but damn that good? For starters in several places in that mission some nasty aliasing is visible and it makes the overall PQ worse. It definitely is a step up from Halo 4 but not a world of difference. I honestly would not call it jaw-dropping beautiful though. And I can never agree on that last part, I want Halo 6 to look A LOT better. Take Killzone SF for example, I would not mind it at all if Halo 6 can look like that or better. IMO that game is truly a beautiful Sci Fi shooter, just suck ass gameplay though.

Damn, I guess I have low standards... yeah they could increase the resolution, but the framerate alone makes the PQ much better. I'd rather have larger environments rather than better graphics.

Also, what the hell is going on with the IGN article saying the marketing lied about the whole Chief vs Locke thing in this game? Unless it was all a dream or something, the game already delivered on its marketing promises and I'm not even halfway done with it???

Team Hardcore? Slayer Pro?

Also, alluding that the exclusion of radar in Halo would make it like every other FPS is insane.

You used it as a crutch in the past titles, now you can't.

Get over it and get better.

Lol so your excuse for it is "get over and get better" I guess I can tell I'm not going to have a good debate about it with you. Especially when you say this is the only competitive game that still has radar and how it should be like the others and remove it then say it's insane to compare it like the others. Bruh what?

Welp, Heroic run completed in 10 hours on the nose. Was a fantastic ride. I really liked how the story was pieced together through different viewpoints.

THREE WARDENS THOUGH MAN, COME ON

welp, bought a gold pack as the game loaded and it didn't show up in my packs and the credits were taken. that's some bullshit.

Now that I've gotten campaign out of the way I'm 100% committed to multiplayer. Anyone playing Warzone or Arena or whatever?

Lol. How it should be.

I'll be up for Warzone in 15-20 minutes.

Edit: actually I have to go help set a wall so give me like an hour.

Go into your collection/open packs. It should be there.

For real it is. Like, I cannot even stress how much better Fathom is than the rest.

-The overall layout is actually quite simple and not overcomplicated like some 343 maps tend to be, while still offering enough options and cover to be satisfying. When it comes to overall layout, less is often more. It's something Bungie usually (but not always) did well at.
-The details of the map are distributed well. They still get to go nuts with the wall detail but they also leave a lot of open spaces as well. There are places for my eyes to rest. It avoids the problem of becoming 'Generic Metal and Tubes Map #6' due to avoiding clutter. Some other maps are way too cluttered to be pleasing to the eye.
-The lighting is a bit more clear and straightforward. There aren't lighting changes and shadows every four feet so it's easily readable at a glance. Some maps, 343 likes to get a little too crazy with the lighting to the point that everything looks different every 10 steps.
-And the ambiance. Oh my god. The big ocean windows with the soft lighting, all the local sounds and the whale noises. The map has more personality in one corner than some entire maps.

343 should apply the design philosophies of this map to all future maps. Keep the overall layout simple, avoid clutter, prioritize readability over flashy lighting, and really push ambiance.

That's the kind of stuff that has people still fondly remembering some of Bungie's maps 10 years later.

Hmm...not a big fan of the layout but hard to argue the rest.

It feels undercooked to me. Too much flat ground and don't like that the only way up is a small staircase on opposite ends of the map. Unless there's a tactical jump I don't know about.

"Mongooses?

Shouldn't it be Mongeese?"

Lmao I love this game.

Mongooses is actually the correct plural term.

I'm on mission 5 and I realize this would be much more fun with 4 people.

Legendary run through anyone? I'll start anywhere before mission 5, including the beginning.

Oh.... :(

I haven't played kzsf but isn't there about 1000x more going on in Halo? Also don't forget kzsf wasn't true 1080p, it was half res with some kind of magic fill in the gaps technology.

Reading that the Hunters are stronger and more aggressive, I had fears going in on Heroic. But hell, I am having an easy time with time, really easy... no issue at all and I am not that great.

They did a great job of making you feel like a Spartan in this game. Even at higher difficulties, you can still just dominate enemies.

Mission 6 verticality is orgasmic. Damn. If this game keeps it up it may end up being my favorite Halo campaign since 3, it's well on its way there. I was skeptical that this game would even be for me, and the reviews bummed me out a bit as someone who mostly cares about campaign, but this is such an improvement over 4 to me right now. I'm really enjoying this.

Edit: Haha, I just died at the end of the mission cause I couldn't stop staring at the scenery.

I love it. Also the Assault Rifle is my baby, it's just that good.

Anyone else "roleplaying" Locke and Chief? Like, the kind of weapons they would use? Lol call me crazy...

My first encounter lasted no more then a few seconds... He charged at Tanaka and fell off the platform.

Since we are talking about the first encounter with the first boss, this is how things went for me on Solo legendary.

Hahaha that's just fucking awesome. Especially your video...he goes all ''AWAY WITH YOU'' but the only one going away is he...lovely, hahaha.

Well...depends on what IGN means with lies. I do know that this Ryan dude from IGN (he didn't review it thank god) had nothing but bad things to say about the campaign. Truly shitting on it...ridiculous really. As for graphics....343 definitely did what they could i am sure cause this is damn smooth and i did not notice a framedrop even once. They clearly did all they could and.....sacrificed plenty of things to make 60fps happen. Despite all that, it definitely has its awesome looking moments. It's just a shame that the hardware isn't more powerful. I truly hope that Halo 6 is going to blow us all away graphically...but i don't know if that's going to be possible at 60fps.

I haven't played kzsf but isn't there about 1000x more going on in Halo? Also don't forget kzsf wasn't true 1080p, it was half res with some kind of magic fill in the gaps technology.

Hmmm...well if i recall correctly. The resolution was 1080p in the campaign and only some kind of dynamic resolution in the MP. The framerate was all over the place in campaign though from what i recall. I don't have a PS4 myself yet,but i played some missions at a friend's house and man...i loved the visuals.

They should've put the two forge (?) maps in Arena, as well as Regret. Lets get a bit more variety in that mode. Also some Oddball and/or KoTH wouldn't be misplaced.

I also hope 343 will put up some BR/DMR starter playlist. Currently it's really nicely balanced with the pistol and all which I really didn't expect. But in the beta the game really started to shine with BR start. It got so much more competitive and strategic it wasn't even funny.

just beat the campaign

kinda disappointed in the ending what with it being a cliffhanger and all, plus Cortana being batshit insane

Look, we're probably not going to change each other's minds, but here's my POV.

I've always played Halo without radars. My friends and I played it that way because that's how MLG was run. We wanted to be good, so we played with the settings that the best played with. This was true of H1 and H2. I even made a little bit of money from playing in H2 tournaments back in high school and even college. I look at competitive FPS games with a very competitive eye. Anything I see as a crutch, I strongly dislike, such as the radar.

No radar forces better team cooperation and better map awareness - these are things I like and want. I want there to be a skill gap because it shows who put in more time.

When I said you were insane, it's because I took your statement literally, whether that was the intention of your statement or not. Halo is so fundamentally different than any other FPS, that with the exclusion of radar, it absolutely does not make it like every other FPS. Removing radar from Halo is not gonna make you go "man, this really feels like CS because there's no radar."

The reason why modern FPS games (especially the popular competitive ones) do not have radar is to add an extra layer to the skill gap between players; again, forcing better team tactics, better communication and better map awareness.

Do warzone weapon unlocks happen in a pattern? my cousin was unlocking very similar stuff to me in the same order from gold packs, i'm guessing this is done for a reason of not getting super awesome weapons via RNG too early, hardly anyone spawns with a DMR in warzone because of this.

This is why you should always look at your radar...

Im starting to wonder how many of these people have played Halo before?

http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/Zeta%20Ori/video/12466641

I think ill name it "crouching spartan, hidden melee"

The problem is that if you look at anything for even half a second someone go from being out of distance of your radar is being right inside of your ass. With sprinting and the tiny radar area, the new radar is complete garbage.

You could pretty much remove it and not notice much of a difference.

I'd love to play some this weekend! My GT is MasterMongoose0 (there is a 0 not in my GAF username). I was good at old Halo and am so far not great at this one but I think we'd have a great time!

HNNNNNNNG

Extremely mild very beginning of Mission 7 spoilers below.

SEVERE Halo 3 vibes from the very opening shot of Mission 7. I'm getting misty-eyed ffs. The colors. The scenery. Fuck. I hope I get to explore a lot of large areas in this mission.

Is it too much to ask for them to fix the motion tracker?

Make it so you can't drop off of it by crouching
Make it so it doesn't show the exact location of a player
Don't show elevation differences
Keep it at 18m

Problem solved. That way it watches your back without telling you too much information. Playing with the radar disabled in a game with unpredictable movement thanks to Sprint is stupid. Can barely hear other players in this game despite having Astros.

That bolded. No. Just...what? No. Sneaking into places while crouching is the best. It's classic halo radar style.

In MP, Does Up on the D-Pad mark a target like in Single Player?

I'm also wondering about this.

343, I don't think your subtitles are big enough, I can still see at least 3/4th of my screen.

My TV's audio is kind of shit so I have some issues playing Xbox games since I can't use my headphones. I always put in subs Xbox games so I can read the subs when I don't pick up something someone said.

Playing Halo 5's with subs was pretty painful.

That bolder. No. Just...what? No.

Yeah, that'd just make it worse.

How about we just go back to the old radar? If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I know this is a wall of text and spoilersm but I dont care I have only got to mission 13 but this is exactly how I feel (apart from the framerate hitches, performance for me has been so sublime, I could shit). I do kind of see where people if they are completely new to Halo may feel a little lost, but tbf this is the 5th entry in the series, at this point there has to be some assumption that people know some of this stuff.

For example for every review that says the story is nonsensical, or not well explained I want to take them outside and give them a paddlin, especially if they haven't nailed MGS V to the wall.
I totally agree! It's Halo 5. If the story doesn't cater to people who know a bit about Halo fiction, they're doing it wrong. And you know, I thought it was pretty damn accessible, considering. You don't have to know much to understand the broad strokes of what's going on. All you have to do is pay attention to the dialog.

Also, if you take your time and listen to some of the datafiles (not even all!) then you will see some of the back story filling in by itself.
For sure. I'm partway through my collection run where I grab all the datapads and skulls I missed. It's amazing how just a couple of 15-second audio clips can add so much context to the
space facility from Blue Team, where all the bodies are scattered around.
The world is actually fleshed out very well.

So far absolutely amazing, beautiful, epic space opera, which is my personal favourite type of story, dealing with big epic themes and fuck off cool sci-fi. Loving it so far.
It's great. My second playthrough is confirming a lot of my positive first impressions.

Right? Beautiful location. One of my favorites in the campaign.

I tried having them on for one mission, but I had to turn them off in ten minutes. I'm pretty sure most people have HDTVs by now. The subs could be literally a quarter the size. I wish you could scale them in the options menu.
