I wish fighting games could be more of a games as a service type of thing where new characters and stages are added over time throughout a console's lifetime with game updates being made instead of new $60 versions. This way you can have all of the old characters people want as well as the new characters and you can just make the game the best fighting game of all time.
That's SFV's model. (the characters are free if you grind them out, Super/Ultra updates are completely free.)

Thats pretty much what SF5 is doing.
 
I don't think I want more than one CA per character.

Yeah, it was just the first example that came to mind.

Personally, I usually prefer more subtle, universal changes. For instance, it'd be interesting if they one day brought back A3's blue blocking to combat white damage (but only after we've spent a good deal of time with the current system, if at all).

I would want Variable V Trigger and CA

However keep V Skill the same as it's hard to come up with new V Skills.


So we have something like this

Ryu A - Denjin Trigger - Shinku Hadoken
Ryu B - Evil Ryu Trigger - Super Shin Shoryuken

Zangief A - Lariat Tornado - Russian Suplex
Zangief B - Green Hand Trigger - FA Buster

Chunli A - Double Trigger - Lightning Kick Super
Chunli B - Heinsho - SA3 from Third Strike

Charlie A - Teleport - Shadow Super
Charlie B - Multi Boom Trigger - Suoer Flash Kick
 
I don't think so, actually. It's harder to come with unique V-Triggers than alternate CAs.
V-Triggers are this game's Ultras. The issue with CAs is that supers don't really come into play in many games- the game's not set up like 3S where you can stock them.

Agree that V-Skills wouldn't change.
 
Ibuki's vskill should be her normal dash from 3s.

Or maybe that will actually be her dash in this game. Kawarimi as alpha counter would be amazing.

Her V skill could be a dedicated ninja slide/flip in which she can do slide and combo into stuff or do the flip into a dive kick or something. Her V Trigger could be new moves with her kunai and the more you throw the faster the meter runs out.
 
What do you guys think the meta game will consist of? I think some of the sf4 guys feel something is missing because there is no focus attack cancel that basically acted like a parry. I think counters should be universal moves that require no meter maybe?
 
Didn't alpha counters in alpha did -no- damage? This is like asking for a blue burst to do damage in blazblue, no thanks.

Alpha counters in alpha 1 and 2 did damage. Alpha counters in alpha 3 did no damage and cost a bar of guard meter. They were practically useless.

So...no, don't think that's at all comparable to Blazblue or bursts. Especially since bursts have far more utility than a counter does, and their own meter in BB and GG.

And yeah, you can make it so they don't kill, that's fine. No problem with that, but they should do damage.
 
I wish v-reversals did non-gray damage.

Yeah what's up with that? Kind of a waste of meter at the moment. I remember I did R. Mika's stunner a couple times during the 2nd beta and it looks so awesome but I want to KO someone with it.

We got enough v-skill dashes. V-skill should be her stupid flip move (a la Rashid) and V-trigger should be a smoke bomb or kunai trap a la her SA3.
 
I think V-Reversals are fine in their current state. Getting an unearned "free hit" at the cost of 1 stock never made sense to me back in Alpha 2 (they could be baited, but the risk/reward still favored the one doing the countering). I really prefer relegating counters to just causing a shift in momentum as opposed to an actual offensive option.

With that amount of damage I like it that way. You're already going from being pressured to neutral with most of them, or keeping your advantageous position as a cornered opponent tries to retaliate.

Plus they really don't need to kill.
 
Yeah, I think resetting a situation to neutral is a worthwhile use of a meter. I don't really need V-Reversals to do more than that. To do actual damage would be busted as hell, and I really don't think anyone should get out-and-out punished for being a favorable position.

I don't think I should earn damage even at the cost of a meter because I got put in block stun.
 
So people have mentioned "next level of meta" or whatever

Maybe V-reversals (in whatever state they may be) were that level all along

Okay. I have no problem with it, especially when they can be baited and countered. It's not guaranteed damage just because you're in block stun.

V-Reversals are meant to get people off your ass, not actually do damage. If you want that then you gotta risk a special move between strings like anyone else.

I've had enough of damaging Alpha Counters after vanilla SFxT
 
Not to mention a good portion of them can be blocked or reacted to. Mika's stunner backfired for me more than once when I tried using them against jump-ins thinking they would continue pressure. They really are just another layer to the pressure game. They don't need to be more than that, imo.
 
You can earn V-meter so fast, i think its fine. Reset to neutral, reduce your stun and deal gray damage is good for half the V stock.

One that removes her from the character select.
 
I just see many games giving you damaged for defensive options even ones you can bait out. Dead Angles and Blow backs all net 0 damage (iirc). I wonder why that is...

Don't know, don't care. My favorite games, Garou, VS, Alpha 2, all have counters that do damage. It's not black or white, one way is better. It's a design decison and I think it could go either way. I prefer one, you another, but that doesn't mean that one is right or better.
