Yeah, I agree with this. I'm genuinely surprised that this thread has managed to avoid the usual shit storm and bethesda bashing that nearly every Fallout thread gets. Good job everyone.

That screenshot thread is fucking toxic right now and half the people in it are being ignorant as fuck. That guy posting screenshots of the Witcher 3 on PC when the topic is about PS4 screenshots was the nail in the coffin for that thread. It's threads like that which really make me hate GAF sometimes and make me wonder how people can just be so ignorant. A lot of threads these days make me think that.

I particulary like the screenshot someone posted of the pre-downgrade confirmed witcher. Sure the shot looks awesome, but the game dont look like that anymore my man

Not even that, but people posting and using that pre release bullshot screenshot of The Witcher 3 as an argument against Fallout 4. I swear everytime I look at thread I get a little bit dumber each time.

It's that level of ignorance that seems to just cling to Fallout and it makes going into F4 threads fucking unbearable. I, personally, hated the Witcher 3 and seeing every Fallout thread devolve into W3 circle jerks and Bethesda bashing drives me up the fucking wall man

That's almost as disingenuous as posting maxed out PC screenshots of Fallout 3 to compare them to a console version of Fallout 4 to complain about lack of improvement after 7 years. I think it would have been a bit more fair to compare 360 or hell PS3 screenshots to it instead.

Yeah I couldn't get into W3 either. A lot of games just don't click for me. Fallout does.

Thankfully the hyped people for the game have gathered in this thread keeping it positive. I'm fine with that. They can have that thread makes it easier for me to avoid their negativity.
 
To be fair i have only just realised that this is probably the fairest fallout thread ive ever been in :/

The people in that thread don't care about fairness. As long as they can hate on Bethesda, shit on Fallout 4 and praise the Witcher they don't care if what they're saying is hyperbole, wrong or just straight up bullshit.

is intriguing. Perhaps once mod tools are out one can add such as a playable race (I don't know how that worked in G.E.C.K though).

To be fair, I do think the graphics are deserving of some criticism. But there is a difference between legitimate criticism and vitriol.

No doubt. But as a huge Fallout fan i wasnt expecting to have my mind blown graphic wise. Criticism is fine, i criticise everything in life, but i cannot stand fanboys / haters just for the sake of it.
 
I much prefer the systems in Bethesda games to those in The Witcher series. I have tried to play TW3 numerous times after every patch that "oh this is the one that is going to fix gameplay issues" and just can't get into it. I really want to like it, though. But I feel that Bethesda, amazatron graphics or not, does great at making immersive worlds with fun (even if sometimes simple, as simple can still be fun) systems to play around with inside the world.

The best part of that thread are the three or four people who have decided that they need to spend hours of their day telling people that everyone should really be angry about how "terrible and ugly" the game is.
 
Let's be fair here, the other thread certainly has it's issues but there is valid criticism over the graphics. We have people on both side of the spectrum shitposting, from the bullshot Witcher 3 screens to the 'Graphics are the mods job!' people.

Being dissapointed in the graphics is okay, but the problem is when people say that Bethesda should kill the franchise because of the graphics. Damn.
Since when has Fallout been about the graphics anyway. Sure TW3 looks great, but its a totally different game. People know that, but its more fun to join the mob with their pitchforks...

See bolded, same here. I know FO4 wont look as good as TW3 but it will scratch an itch that I haven't been able to yet this gen. The truly free open world rpg. TW3 gives a lot of freedom but it is still a very linear game.

Bethesda RPG's tend to encourage exploration and story equally as opposed to most other rpg's that really push story on you. DA:I and TW3 give the illusion of freedom but they really expect you to follow a very linear path through that open world.

Maybe they open up later in the game but I haven't reached those areas yet.

The graphics here are definitely serviceable, dare I say good even? *ducks*

My bigger concern is only that it is stable and there aren't any game breaking bugs.

Yeah I can definitely see that. I think that's part of the problem with the internet nowadays, any valid criticism is immediately complimented with idiotic baiting posts that serve no purpose and only cause arguments to break out.

Derail or not, but I do hope that CDPR can finetune their core gameplay and feel of the character control for CB2077. When player says that he didn't like Witcher 3 more often than not it's something about gameplay, usually to do with how Geralt moves and how combat feels. If those bug player I can see why it results in game not hooking them in and it's shame, Witcher 3 is so good RPG to experience from storytelling and content perspective.

Definitely. Are they the same as most AAA 2015 games? No, are they a definite improvement over fo3 and new Vegas? NO DOUBT. But shitting on a game because it doesn't meet "standards" of 2015 games doesn't mean the game is garbage or undeserving of the hype it's gotten.

Exactly. If The Witcher 3 allowed as much freedom as your average Fallout game then CDPR would have had to pair back the visuals because giving players freedom to built a massive pile of stuff from hundreds of cans, all with physics working away, is going to take it's toll.

I'm very happy with the visuals as the baseline in the game because that game is going to have to handle the significant amount of lunacy I am going to throw at it!

I'm also choosing to play on PS4 over PC because I want to collapse into my massive beanbag in front of my big TV and play the damn thing for hours and hours. I do not want to sit up at my desk. Graphics are very much an aside for me.

PS4 is much faster than my PC was in 2008 when I took that screen, which also ran at 60fps btw. I would expect higher standards from the most successful RPG company in the business. I don't see how it's disingenuous.
 
For all the games that keep getting mentioned for looking better than Bethesda games in general, I'm honestly curious if the engine for those games could handle the stuff that Bethesda games tend to allow you to do.

I know nothing about game design and how game engines work, so I don't know if that stuff is something simple or more complex and the reason why Bethesda has simply been reiterating on the same engine for over a decade.

I don't know, considering PC CPUs from around 2008 can be more powerful than the CPUs in the XBO and PS4, I think it isn't an entirely fair comparison to make.

I have no evidence to support this but I'm really in the mindset that the ps4 could do 1080p / 60fps but if the X1 can't they don't want to hurt relations with m$ so they lock both at the same specs.
 
Another reason why the comparison between Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 falls flat is because you are comparing one game filled with lots of grass, trees and beautiful vistas, with another where the landscape is supposed to be scorched and severely damaged.

It's impossible to compare them by that metric. The screenshots that are pre war in Fallout 4 actually look good compared to Witcher 3 but of course they dont focus on these ones.

I think it's more the fact that people felt the graphics were subpar during the initial reveal, and now they seem to have been downgraded even further. The lack of shadows is kind of crazy, especially after Skyrim did a pretty decent job in that area.

People wanting it to be TW3 or TPP are comparing apples to oranges, but people wanting it to be a reasonable step up from Skyrim are totally justified in feeling let down.
 
Looking forward to this game so much. Now I'm just trying to decide what to play for the next ten days. As for the graphics discussion, my favorite series is Disgaea if that tells you anything. I've always prioritized gameplay over everything else.

That being said, those last two pictures in the PS4 screenshot thread OP do leave me scratching my head a bit. I think maybe someone might be screwing with us posting Fallout 3 or New Vegas shots with a new UI photoshopped in. As for the rest of the shots, they look alright to me.

I had Core 2 Duo at 2ghz. That is dual core with 8 years old architecture. 8 core Jaguar at 1.6ghz musters significantly more power than this, even if it is vastly inferior to current Sandy Bridges/Ivy Bridges/Haswells/Skylakes.
 
Someone mentions that this is the only thread not comparing to games like witcher and not talking about graphics and then that's exactly where the discussion goes lol.

Still doesn't change the fact you're comparing a PC screenshot of the game with settings essentially maxed out, to a console version that probably has draw distance and LOD and god knows what else at at lower than maxed. Hell, it could be one of those cases where the console version has settings lower than the lowest possible settings on the PC version.

A more fair and apt comparison in my opinion would be comparing FO3 PC maxed to FO4 PC maxed, but that's just how I feel. Not everyone else does.
 
Bethesda should release screenshots for every platform, just like what Konami did with MGS5.

I'm having trouble deciding between Xbox one and ps4. My PC is gettin old and barely meets the minimum reqs. I'm hoping this is a destiny situation and both versions are the same. Has Bethesda confirmed the e3 footage is actually running on Xbox one?
 
All I want to know is what the perks will be before release, so I can plan something and not get stuck at character creation(which I can sometimes, trying to decide what to roll with).
Sure, we know some, but I want to know all of them.
 
i've already made my peace with the game not looking all that great to what I'm used to on PS4.

But I've been playing Star Wars TOR, so Fallout 4 will look better than that at least.
