Fallout 4 has gone gold; leaked gameplay vids

Yeah like I said in that screenshot thread, the last image is really bad but the rest are okay I think for a Bethesda game, especially the character models, they've made a huge improvement from what we've seen in Skyrim. People comparing it to Fallout 3 or Oblivion are insane, go and play those games again without mods and see how they really look, they're not even comparable. Best people wait for the actual game to come out and not screenshots from who knows where. I remember how the TW3 thread was like with the downgrade but the game in actual play is beautiful, I don't think it's fair to sit and look at a screenshot and pass judgement until it's being played in front of your eyes. Bethesda has barely hyped this game in terms of graphics, showing off footage, screenshots (like previous releases), people carrying on like Bethesda pulled a bait and switch like Watch Dogs or something.

Screenshot thread is fine. People defending the shots are more hilarious than the people bashing them.

e: that's not to say there are no "omg it's exactly like fo3" shit posts too

I agree. There are some shitposts in there but I mostly see people saying it doesn't look too hot graphically which I agree with. Most people still seem fully intent on enjoying the gameplay.

Still doesn't change the fact you're comparing a PC screenshot of the game with settings essentially maxed out, to a console version that probably has draw distance and LOD and god knows what else at at lower than maxed. Hell, it could be one of those cases where the console version has settings lower than the lowest possible settings on the PC version.

A more fair and apt comparison in my opinion would be comparing FO3 PC maxed to FO4 PC maxed, but that's just how I feel. Not everyone else does.

I compared what I had available. Once we have PC and PS4 versions sure we will be able to compare everything to heart's content. I find the graphics of FO4 very disappointing judging on released footage and the PS4 screenshots, in 7 years I expected more from them, especially considering the money they have from Skyrim's 30 million sold copies.
However I do reserve full judgement until I play the PC version on my 970 with shadows and LoD maxed out. It might look significantly better, I sure hope so.

Now if only Bethesda hired better writers and finally managed to built more logically coherent and consistent world instead of their usual theme park design.

It's the same with Bioware. That's why I avoid most Bethesda and Bioware threads, because they usually turn into garbage.
Yup. Exactly the reason why I almost never contribute to Bio/Beth conversations on here. I definitely understand many of the gripes, but the vitriol is so disproportional and hyperbolic.

It would be really great if this didn't turn into a thread about the screenshot thread. That shits insidious and already changing the tone here too.

EDIT: I guess I should follow my own desire. I can't wait to get my hands on this. I have reached the point where every other game I try to play just isn't fallout 4. I hate that phase of pre game hype but Netflix and chill will have to get me by. That and reading all the crazy hyperbole floating around right now. Lol

Any news on whether or not this game will have a hardcore mode, a la New Vegas? Apologies if already discussed, trying to avoid spoilers.

It's been discussed but so far I don't believe there has been any confirmation either way. I never tried it on NV but it sounds like something I might try in my playthrough of this if it's here.

Yeah nothing. The Endurance SPECIAL vid had a line about food and water that kind of sounded like basic needs but it's hardly definitive.

I'm torn on Hardcore mode because I like it in theory but though it sucked in NV, at least in regards to food, water and sleeping. It was meaningless and a both, rather than something that added to the game. It would be one thing if they included it in the base game and balanced the loot spawning and availability of items based around the idea you need to eat and drink regularly, while just having that as an add on mode won't achieve that.

I'd like to think it will. I'm fairly confident all the released footage that looks 'good' is more than likely maxed PC footage.

Unless we get third party PC footage that proves downgrade / tomfoolery. Who knows. I've said it before but Bethesda games (Well, Bethesda 'style' if you count New Vegas) just scratch a certain itch for me that other 'open world' games just can't manage.

Because of that, despite the bugs or the jank or the writing, I always get super hyped when a new one is coming. They're one of the few I can just spend hundreds of hours messing around in and exploring and never even finishing the main quest line.

Nope, it'll go to someplace like Connecticut or New Hampshire, nowhere as significant as NYC. I really hope they do one in Maine (my state).

It would be cool to see Providence. Especially as a New Reno type location since the city has a big history of being mob run.

I can also see a Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard type DLC as well. Still dreaming that my Wicker Man meets Alice in Wonderland idea set in Martha's Vineyard somehow takes place.

Maine would also be interesting. I'd love another sinister Point Lookout-style location and Maine's perfect.

Also, considering the MA setting, I hope they have another Lovecraftian sidequest somewhere, a la the Dunwich Building.

Martha's Vineyard and Maine would be great. Maybe we can get some mutated sharks in Martha's Vineyard.

It would be so awesome if they decided to do a big Shivering Isles-style expansion in another medium-sized city. Fallout 3/NV's DLC was fine, but I miss those huge added landmasses.

Woof, that screenshot thread is some A grade, certified garbage. The game may not look extraordinary, but it ain't Fallout 3/New Vegas.

It's going to suck not being able to play the game for a few days since my preorder will be 4 counties away :/

Somewhere in upstate New York might get an appearance in a DLC, but NYC proper? Nah. That would be saved for a main location I'd think.
Yeah, if they do a Fallout NYC DLC it'll probably be set in a single city block like a surviving skyscraper - similar to the premise in Dredd.

Actually, that wouldn't be half bad.

Hopped out of that thread when the posts started calling the devs incompetent and lazy. Felt worse than a YouTube comment section.

Not necessarily. Major cities would get the worst of an atomic attack. In the original Fallout for instance Los Angeles was just another struggling wasteland community.

Hm. True enough, it would really depend on where they decide to focus it. I'd like to see a Fallout set somewhere in the midwest though.

Buddy, out of over 1200 posts, going by ctrl + f, there's one poster calling bethesda lazy and one calling them incompetent. That's two. Two posts, out of 1200. 0.16%.

I'm sorry to bring this up in this thread, but the screenshot thread is absolutely not as bad as you people are calling it. Hell, I'd even go as far as to say that there are probably more people being unreasonably defensive of the game/bethesda than there are people who are just shit posting and bashing bethesda. Lots of "just shut up and enjoy the game" shit.

Most people just agree that it's not a very good looking game. It's sad that I even have to add a disclaimer ("..., but that's not what I'm looking for a Bethesda game") to my post criticizing the graphics if I don't want to be considered a troll.

The "youtube comment section" comments are as stupid as the "looks like fallout 3" comments. As is ignoring all criticism because of "mindless bethesda hate".

e: to reiterate: I have pre-ordered the game and I'm incredibly excited about spending dozens and dozens of hours in the wasteland again

If you only found two posts that you would deem shit posts in that thread then I think you're bad at identifying shit posts.

I'm not sure you actually read what you quoted
And I'm not sure you did. The poster was saying it read like the youtube comments section and there are many posts in that thread the qualify. If you want to bat for those, okay.

Btw, that gamefaqs poster is saying there's no hardcore. Take it with a grain of salt though, obviously.

That ebay listing looks fishy, unless it's some weird press copy or something. The front of the box doesn't mention Fallout 3 for free as seen in other images, and the back of the box is all wrong. No images or anything.

Yeah and that was enough for me to punch out. The additional shitposts were the icing on the cake.

Dude, he specifically mentioned people calling bethesda lazy and incompetent.

My apologies for not including that I read a good chunk of "YouTube-tier" posts along with it. That's my bad. Pulled an all-nighter so I'm bound to screw a couple things up, haha

Dude, he specifically mentioned people calling bethesda lazy and incompetent as the posts that made him exit. I simply brought up the fact that there were literally just two of those.

Of course there's more shit posting going on in that thread than just those two. Get real.

Also the exact same images posted by the guy in the GameFAQs thread. Sensing BS on both.
EDIT: Not exact same, but the thumb is identical as is the reflected shirt, etc.
EDIT2: And apparently the GameFAQs user is a known troll.

I like that this thread has actual discussion, the other one is..eh

Btw what do you guys think?
What kind of politics is going to have bethesda on console mods?

No nudie mods. No texture packs. No shader overhauls. Probably just quest packs with preexisting assets; companions; items.

I honestly have to wonder what kind of mods we can expect to make it to consoles. Most of the mods I've installed for FO3/NV were usually HUD updates, alternate Pipboys and some graphic updates and I'm pretty certain none of those things will be allowed.

The hope would be that additional Quests could come from it.

I see no reason why HUD or Pipboy overhauls couldn't make it to consoles too

I guess it comes down to what Bethesda is comfortable with. I have no idea about the stuff so yeah.

I reckon graphic mods and other such mods that require the power of a decent PC is out pf the question. Based on experiences from Skyrim or NV for that matter there certainly are a lot of mods that could work on consoles. Mostly I hope there will be a lot of cosmetic stuff, and with the citybuilding in this game there are some exciting prospects for sure. Sometimes i even forget all the stuff that Bethesda has put in this game. Looking back at the E3 demo its looking to be pretty crazy the amount of things you can do. + mods.

as for console mods. personally i have no idea how we'd be able to install them? on PC you can make stuff because all the files are accessible. the only thing you can really access on consoles are the save files.

maybe there's something that can extract game files to a PC but i think that mods will need to be created on the console. maybe like an editor mode to create new areas or quests and then when you're done you can publish them to be downloaded. even if they do allow you to extract files to a PC then it will still require this editor mode and what you can extract will be restricted. I'm not sure how it'll go with sony/microsoft because they need to know that it's not gonna crash/brick the system or anything.

definitely no nudity/graphic mods. just simple things like new areas/quests/characters. whatever you can create will be completely restricted by Bethesda. perhaps even pre create mods. by that i mean for example changing the HUD or something. bethesda will create several options you can use.

on PC you'll be able to mod in anything you want.
