Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

That Spartan Dash that all players are equipped with, is like giving everyone their own personal energy sword.

Those defending the game as being a "natural progression", or whatever, are you really going to disagree with me on this?

You say it's now all about map and power weapon control.

But everyone basically spawns with one do they not?

Unless you're versing idiots, there's no point controlling the power weapons on the map. Every Spartan is faster, stronger, sneakier than before. They come at you and you don't stand a chance to actually engage in "gunplay". They all have dash and super silent radar prescence.

You're getting excited, ready to play some great halo. You're not wasting any time by sprinting. Pistol ready, to bust out some head shots. Then all of a sudden an enemy Spartan comes dashing out of nowhere. Surely he doesn't have a power weapon, cos you're guarding it. You're ready to land some brilliant shots, with one final to the head. He sprints toward you and bang, youre fucking knocked out cold by the Spartan dash or best case scenario your shields are down and he swiftly puts an end to you by spraying his AR. Uh, Where's this gunfight that's supposed to happen? Worse, he could have come from behind and you wouldn't even know what had hit you. And hey, every player is equipped with sprint forever, so he could have a team mate or 3 with him.

Now the above, you could argue, could be prevented by doing so and so or playing this and that way. But the point is, it still happens more than it should. And it does.

The gunplay may feel solid but there's definitely less chance of it occurring. And ha, power weapon control. Every Spartan is a fucking supercharged power weapon.

And No guys, the radar is NOT fine in arena. We all love a match where everyone's quit and you're the only one versing a full team. You know that feels good when you can take down an entire team by playing well, landing all your shots. You can't do that in halo 5. And I fucking miss that. That's magic. That's halo.

It's already bad in team based arena matches, I play in FFA. Imagine how fucking chaotic it gets in there. Less gunfights more holy-shit-wtf-is going on, peopling sprintin and flying and smashing everywhere. Certainly more so than in previous halos including 4.

They were slower, heavier, and even when they had sprint it was only for a short period of time. There were still strategic, well paced, skill and timing based battles. Not who can be more fast and furious.

Let's ignore who's right and wrong for now. Can those defending the game seriously say that you disagree with me here.

Spartan charge is my least favorite spartan ability by far because it can award those players that just sprint around. However, it's not that hard to just thrust out of the way and then back-whack them and teabag them for sprinting around like an idiot.

I want to be able to be the underdog. Against all odds, take down an entire team of 4 because my asshole teammates all quit.

You could do that in most of the previous Halos. Join in progress fucked that up a bit though, but thats another story.

It's simply not possible in Halo 5. You'll get obliterated. You kill one, he's back with his crew within seconds. Sprint, clamber, dash. You'll literally always be fighting them coming at you all at once.

And that's part of what made Halo awesome back then. We all like to be a lone wolf sometimes. The hardcore player was king. The individual was unstoppable when you got good. THAT is why it had a massive pro community. Whether it be FFA or team based matches, your skill shone. That is why, or partly why, people played it like FUCKING crazy. To get that perfection. Oh how sweet it was.

So yes, keep disagreeing with me. The guys who kicked ass at Halo in the past no matter which game, whether it be FFA or team, will know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. It's not a game you love, it's not a game you get obsessed about any more. It's hard to be when there's less shooting and more acrobatics. Oh and nades. Nades lying everywhere. Remember how you used to make a dash for the grenades? That satisfaction of outgunning your opponent for them? Hell even just jumping towards them.

Unless you're versing idiots

So rich.

Almost as rich as trying to argue that the spartan abilities erode any need for power weapons or map control. You may not like how all of the gameplay elements are implemented, but map and power weapon control are just as important now as they ever have been.

What are you talking about?

Spartan charge is nearly perfectly balanced. I get a couple kills with them a game but it's either when someone's health is down or when they're camping (sometimes for a power weapon) and I can get behind them. If someone is moving around a lot it's really hard to get behind them without them noticing it, and if you continue to charge, they probably have a better chance of killing you with a few shots then a normal melee.

But it's oh so satisfying when you do get a kill with it. Dat ragdoll.

Frank, please throw Orion into the collapsing black hole at the heart of 343.

Signed, DC.
If the game doesn't have map voting it should have some way to give feedback on the maps through the game. Maybe a random survey in the post game lobby or something.

Destiny doesn't have voting but they analyze which matches players leave to see what maps and modes people hate; that isn't an option here because of no JIP and bans for quitting.

I consider myself a pretty decent Halo player and the only time you could ever win 1 on 4 in Halo was when the other team was absolute shit. I mean it's incredibly difficult to win in Halo when it's 3 on 4.

Trying to get to Diamond from Plat 1 in Team Arena by only solo queuing has proven to be really tough for me :/

I've been one game off a few times now but can't get over that hump... Whether it be playing outnumbered or just playing poorly in those matches.

Tell me it's not harder in Halo 5 to do though. Even against a shit team. I stand by my belief that every spartan is now too strong, too fast, too deadly. The skill gap has narrowed. Of course I was exaggerating about spartan dash being comparable to the sword. But you get my point.

Yeah if the enemy team is any good at all they will group up and team shot in a 4v2 or 4v1 situation.

If you want to win 1v4 play SWAT or snipers, it's possible there thanks to the instant TTK.

Do you guys think they'll ever address Mendicant Bias and Offensive Bias in game ever again? The terminals addressing that story in Halo 3 was one of my favorite side stories in all of the lore. I think that with where 343 seems to be taking the story they could have some great opportunities for that, too.

Ya through gold was easy street, plat is tough when it's just you. Noticing a lot fewer quitters though, which is good

You could just thrust out of the way... It's that simple. With the smaller radar you have to be "team aware" of the map.

Huh....dont seem to be having a problem over here.

Still better than Orion.
Seriously, how come these two maps are so inferior to other maps? They are all made to be launch maps and had been tested in beta for a month.

I mean, they're both forge. But it really looks like they put those maps together in a day and called it...a day. Maybe they'll replace it with some community maps at some point.

I find aiming in this game really weird.

Some matches i seem to be on point granting me a nice 1.7 or so KD other games i cant even hit people who slightly move and it feels like my crosshair fly in a direction as i try to adjust it.

So weird.

Counterpoint: you may just not be good at the game yet

I haven't once seen the midship map (forgot what it's called) in Slayer. Does anyone have a list of the maps for each game type?

I think this is (at 0:19) happening in a more suble way in some matches, which makes aiming at them more difficult.

With the added mobility it is more difficult. Players have more ways to stay alive if they put themselves in a bad spot. You seem to play a lot of FFA. I don't play that because I prefer the team based combat and coordination that Halo is known for, which is their in Halo 5. And I would argue the added mobility has raised the skill gap. Those that understand how and when to incorporate their spartan abilities to gain an advantage adds another level to the gameplay.

Having the exact same experience. Slowly improving though.

That Spartan Dash...

It's not worth presenting this argument in this thread man; for a lot of people in here, this is the first Halo game they're actually decent at, which is why they have such a positive relationship with it. It's just not a good Halo game, and would make a bland game under any other name.

I didn't care for it in the beta, but Breakout's kind of fun.

I've played every single Halo for hundreds of hours both casually and competitively (and I loathe Halo 4/Reach with a passion), and H5 is easily the best since 3. Gunplay is arguably the best in the series.

lol. This is my worst Halo in terms of being good at it, and I'm having a blast.

Why do you not like it? What's bland about it?

Really, brah?

What a stupid assumption. I'm good at this game, and I was good at every Halo before it. And I think this is a great game.

Warzone? Um, ok?

That explains it. I'm may or may not be arguing with people about a different game. You guys can go "get good" at the game there.

You know, now I'm curious. What's your GT? I'd like to check out your stats.

Edit: you can't be this rakka, he hasn't played the game yet.

Ha. I think you may just be right. I have no idea why I even bother.

I'm sitting here scratching my head thinking, have these guys even played the previous Halos? Do they seriously think WHAT MADE them fucking awesome is still there?

lololololol. Dude, if people on the Team Beyond forums are mostly enjoying the game, then this a good Halo game.

This is a good Halo game. It's not perfect, but it's better than the shitshow that was Halo 4, and probably better than Halo 3. It's not better than Halo 2 to me, but Halo 2 was something really, really special. This is coming from someone who has done reasonably well in every Halo MP.

Halo 5 MP is the same as any other Halo MP. If you're good at older Halo titles, you will do well at Halo 5.
