Honestly I don't think the pngs look great either.
The geometry is really simplistic, the textures are still a mix of poor to mediocre, the glass is rarely reflectively, and something is decidedly off about the shadowing.
The AA seems reasonable, and there does appear to be at least some attempt at physically based rendering here, though it doesn't seem to apply to all surfaces or perhaps it's just not especially accurate.
The game does have a nice art direction though. It's a big step up for the company in general.
I would say the final product looks average as opposed to below average giving consideration for the genre and what the game does.
Duck Dynasty in particular.Tony Hawk isn't even the worst, to be honest. It's bad, but there are definitely uglier games abound.

Lmao at those who are saying Shinobi "carefully framed" those pictures. Wtf are you guys smoking because I want some. Y'all just jealous because you got slapped in the face with those beautiful pics and now you can't back your shit up.

Except there are.
Guys relax, I'm "Taking the piss" (sort of) as we say in Britain. Seriously though, your telling me that you've never once gone through a game and thought "oh wow" and pressed the share button? Really, that's never happened? Its happened to me over 4000 times on my last count.Look at the images. Most aren't 'slice of life' images, they're "this looks good" images.
Just like in the original set looking at a shadowless bobblehead is a "this looks bad" image.
...But even Shinobi's PNGs look bad...

To me that isn't "carefully framing" each shot, it's simply sharing something that looks nice, which those screens do.

Lol, quoted the wrong person... My epic fail of the dayI was agreeing with you.
Just out of curiosity: Why don't you go PC day 1. Play the game with higher details/60fps and then return in a year to replay it with mods? This way you also do not need to rebuy the game during a steam sale.
I recall seeing a loading screen similar to FO3 when entering a building in the leaked gamescom footage.

Windows are textures

Fair enough, but the difference is little more than semantics. Of course there'll be "oh wow, that looks good" moments, just like there'll be "oh wow, that looks bad" moments, relative to the 'average' look of the game. It would seem that Shinobi's images showcase the former, whereas the set that started the thread showcase the latter (but, overall, I'd say that the set of images that started the thread are probably more representative of what the game actually looks like, in showing things like NPC's and draw-distances).
What do you think looks bad about those images?
Maybe FO4 has a case of the Halo 5 and shadows get better as you get closer. I mean, anyone ever look at the distant landscape in MGSV through your binoculars?

How are these problems? Are they known bugs?Gemüsepizza;183698882 said:Dude.
- He did not take panorama shots -> the LOD and shadow problems are not that visible.
- He did not take close up shots -> the lack of ambient occlusion is not that visible.
Those screenshots do not show the full picture.
That's not all what was said though was it. People were saying stuff like "where's the PBR" and "FO3 textures etc. Most games these days have LOD issues, hell, the game is designed that way, it's a non issue. It'd run at sub 20 fps if it had a full LOD from that distance.Look, I don't even really care about how it looks at the moment(really won't effect my enjoyment of the game), but the picts shinobi showed up with are all close shots. What people were complaining about earlier in the thread was the horrible LoD and the fact that trees in the distance cast no shadows.
And guess what? The new images still show the same problems in the ones you can actually look into the backround.
Here's the old Image that makes it very clear what the LoD problem is:
Here's one of Shinobi's pict, look at the left side and up the hill and you'll see the same LoD effect and shadowless trees:
Now, as I mentioned how the game looks really isn't going to factor into how much I like it, but the truth is what people were complaining about in the first pictures is also in the second, just hidden in the backround since everything in the pictures is relatively close up
if that suits your narrative, sure.

Smaller buildings, like in the neighborhood around your home will be enterable without loading. You can see a few of these "open" buildings in the screenshots - most of them are very ruined so you can see straight through them.
Larger buildings, like the one where you meet Preston in the E3 presentation, will have a loading screen. I'm gonna predict that Diamond City will have a loading screen too, even though it's technically outside.
Based on the PNGs, if it looks that good on console. Imagine PC at 4k.
I'm more worried about the folks who said the original images looked great to begin with. Folks trying to conspiracy theory shinobi's pics just need to stop as well. I know you're mainly targeting them, but I don't like folks acting like I should be ashamed because I said a bad screenshot looked bad.
Yep, looks just like the pc footage, PS360 game that abandoned its last gen roots. Why do people try to deny this, the engine used is 11 years old. If it never started out as a last gen game they'd use a new engine. This doesn't look better than MGS V or other cross gen open world games. The art direction is great though, finally some colors.
STUFF
Maybe those people really did think those other images were pretty.

Don't tempt me, I don't want to replace my 970 just yet.

Considering the min and recommended specs, you might not have to.
I have no problem playing a game that looks like this

So I think I'm ok with Fallout 4.
It doesn't look better than MGSV that was a ghost town save for a few well placed settlements, or The Witcher 3 that didn't run very well on consoles (and is still being patched). Ok. Sure.
The issue that many are or were making is this uncurrent in the "criticism" that the technical merits of the game somehow fall massively lower than SIMILAR games. Which is absolute horseshit. You're upset that there aren't shadows on the trees in the distance - great. However don't pretend this is some new phenomenon and that you really expected this to be the case for this game on consoles.
