Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return (English Version) PSOne Classic Out This Week

Holy shit it's about time. I remember everyone being pissed that it was unclear that the original PSN release was only in Japanese.

Finally!

I'm currently playing Tomba 1 on the Vita, this will be an excellent transition :) Tomba 2 is such a great game.

Oh it's that game.

OP should mention it's for US PSN since it's on JP PSN already :P

Will def. pick it up.
But man it took them more than 2 years to get the licensing cleared O_o

I wonder if they'll remove the JPN version from the U.S. Great to see they were able to bring this version back.

Now give me PS1 support on PS4 already!

Awesome for those of us who didn't buy the Japanese version. I wonder what they will do for those that did buy the Japanese version?

Good to see this classic land on PSN in its proper fashion :D!

For a game with RPG elements, you NEED English text to understand whats going on, so its awesome that the game is getting updated/resold to have English text :).

Thanks for the heads up OP and will get this and the original Tomba some point latter this year :).

They released it in Japanese on the US shop? Umm... Why?

Anyway I remember thinking the demo of this was really fun as a kid so maybe I'll check it out.

Technically the PSP Ape Escape game is Ape Escape 1.
It's a game that's developed around a dual stick gimmick that had it taken out as a matter of necessity for PSP. Granted there's solid 3D platforming action there anyway, but it'd be great to get the game as intended.

EDIT: Though I do want to know the price and if everyone who owns it already gets the English one for free. If it's the former and it's $6 now I may grab it just to be safe in case this stuff necessitated a $4 price hike, which isn't THAT big of a deal really but would be nice to avoid if possible.

Enjoy the game, for any of you playing it for the first time. It's fun as hell and the last segments are fantastic (and somewhat eerie). Just don't get mad with the camera switching (at times it's a real pain).

This and the prequel truly deserve a remaster or, better yet, a sequel. I'd be there Day 1.

I keep hearing this is incredible. Can I jump right into this and skip Tomba! 1?
Technically yes, but they're both worth playing. I slightly prefer the first one; it's a bit more challenging but the boss fights are a joke. Whereas it's a bit of the inverse with the 2nd one (Water Temple is a bit tricky at times though I'd say; same with the Forest's 2nd half).

But story-wise you don't need to play the 1st to understand the main plot of the 2nd (you'll miss out on certain inside jokes and references but that's to be expected).

It's worth noting that there's a save data transfer between Tomba 1 and 2. It's impossible to 100% the game unless you bring in a nearly cleared save of the first game.

Oh, right, I forgot about that.
There are 4 events that unlock only if on the Tomba 1 save file 4 other events have been cleared.

(then again, what the hell else is there to associate Tomba 2 with).
Your childhood?

I literally bought the US version from the UK PSN store two weeks ago because I didn't think it would ever come out in America.

I own Tomba 1 on my US account.

Damn it.

This is great news. Was disappointed when the Japanese version was put up. Will get this for sure.

Wonder what would happen to those who bought the Japanese version thinking it was the English. Would be fair if they could re-download the English version for free

Since I know nothing about this game except for that super awkward stream, is it decent? Gameplay reminds me of Klonoa, so would people say it's comparable in quality to that game?

I'm in the same boat as you, except I bought it about a month ago. I slightly don't care. I feel everyone who was tricked into buying the Japanese version should be given the game for free or discount.

Oh definitely. Although, Tomba's closer to a "Metroidvania" than a standard platformer, since you'll find yourself travelling back to previous locations with new items to do things you couldn't do before. Though the games have the equivalent of quick-travel to make this a deal less time-consuming than the standard Metroidvania type of game.

Even so, both games are filled to the brim with tight platforming, and that's probably where the comparisons with Klonoa are more apt. Wouldn't say either game has a single moment as hard as Klonoa's last boss, but they're still kind of challenging in platforming tasks most of the time, and other times the challenge just comes from figuring riddles out to figure what to do next (or trying to unlock all the events).

It's worth noting that there's a save data transfer between Tomba 1 and 2. It's impossible to 100% the game unless you bring in a nearly cleared save of the first game.
Very true. Good reminder.
