I don't know why they felt to change the dialogue system to that.
Nightmare? Really? I guess their designers, and programmers, and players have a less valid opinion than the guy who hasn't gotten his copy yet, right? When did you learn about this?how much thought have you put into this?
Maybe give it some time before assuming they passed the build game button and that was it. Ffs,you can dislike a direction all you want, but nobody has any right to discount the direction a developer chooses.

So far it seems Fallout 4 has improved on many things beyond Fallout 3 and NV
Pros:A map filled with hundreds of hours of content with quests and dungeons
since the map is small it's very dense and filled with new things to see every step
I can't handle the wait any more. Seriously, I've been doing nothing but pressing F5 on this thread the past two days.

It looks sortof like the original concept for the Cloverfield Monster:

This is why going overboard with voice acting is fucking awful for rpgs.

Dumb choice? Have you talked at all to bethesda about this? They might be interested in hearing you out. Considering the amount of time spent making the game, surely they were just paying pin the stupid idea on the fallout instead of trying to make a profit. Maybe you should go down there and let them know that you, an ill informed consumer, should take their jobs, because you can make the game they wanted to make better than they can, because let's face it;Hero Prinny is the one true God, and has a deep, profound understanding of the inner workings of all Maryland citizens, including those of the bethesda team.Yes we can. It was a dumb choice and the impressions so far are proving why it was dumb and why many were concerned

Yup. Tragic. Looks like this'll be the first game in the series where I'm not going CHR/Speech heavy.
And this will probably be the best selling Fallout game ever :[
Despite the same poster everyone seems to be hanging their decisions on, walking back his comments and admitting SPECIAL checks were actually in the game.
Awesome.
Have you only ever played western RPG's.
Seriously, some of these responses seem to ignore that the VAST MAJORITY of RPG's do not have dialogue choices like the ridiculous cluttered menu's of Fallout 3 or New Vegas.
Everyone in this thread is just losing their shit over a single photo and a single players impression of the game. Essentially just confirming what they already "feared" from the E3 demo.
Sad, sad, sad. . .

Other than Lonesome Road, neither FO3 nor New Vegas did anything with its in-game conversation structures that required menus. New Vegas did some stuff with the aesthetic of the options available that let you generally choose how to roleplay your character, within a few archetypes, but it was quite limited given the statements could only be a sentence or two.
In Lonesome Road, the game actually tracked your responses to Ulysses and it affected what responses and options you had available down the line. Those needed more than 4 options because they were more complicated than the main story/back story/barter/goodbye structure, because you needed the space to know exactly what you were saying and the nuance between the options required more of them. None of the other conversations in either game required a menu. Big showpiece conversations like the Burned Man could have easily rolled all of its options into a radial menu.
Now, if the game lacks dialogue in general, that's another problem (the Oblivion problem -- which, by the way, had menus, just entirely too few choices inside of them), but that won't be a flaw of the conversation system.
So far it seems Fallout 4 has improved on many things beyond Fallout 3 and NV
Pros:
Improved combat
You're not limited to 4 directions when walking anymore
Great lighting system that looks gorgeous
You can choose your weapons instantaneously and use grenades now
Improved models
Lots of interesting perks for customisation
Welldone character creator with a lot of choices
A map filled with hundreds of hours of content with quests and dungeons
since the map is small it's very dense and filled with new things to see every step
Cons:
Horrible dialogue system
Poor writing that does not allow the player to learn more about the world through conversation because it wont allow you to backtrack
Horrible animations that looked like an amateur did them
Same voice actors reused for most of the game so you easily recognise their voices
Immersion breaking player character commenting on your actions like lockpicking or hacking
All in all you can easily say that Fallout 4 is a funner and better game than the previous games and as an RPG, it's a step back for now.

The less dialogue options the better for me. It was a chore to click all the dialogue options when talking to a NPC just to see if I get a side quest or not. I don't play Fallout to spend time talking to NPCs and learning every bit of information they possess. If people do, thats cool but I just want to shoot things and get lost in the map.
Isn't that like literally the first dialogue chance in the game?
I mean its got to get better. Right?

It's what we all thought would happen...and now we're actually seeing gameplay for the first time which pretty much confirms what we thought would happen. Why wouldn't we bummed out? It's not like Bethesda has provided any information to prove us otherwise.

Bethesda writing to reach a new low. I didn't even knew that was possible.
