Neither SWAT nor Breakout feel anything like Halo to me.
They're interesting, I guess, but I play Halo for the back-and-forth grenade/shoot/melee, and those modes feel a bit more campy and twitchy than I prefer from this series.
I feel like you could throw both of them into one 'no shields' playlist and the Team Arena playlist would be better for it.
Perhaps first impressions wasn't the best phrase. But everything appears limited. Server selection still sees me and I am sure thousands of other people getting dumped into games hosted on the other side of the world...
Although I don't give a shit for cod, millions do... Or perhaps I imagined the runaway success that it enjoys?

Fair enough but I am in Australia and usually get the worst MP experience with lag but halo 5 has been really good. out of 60 or so matches that I've played, only a couple were laggy.
As I suspected Warzone is not really my thing. It is not surprising because I have disliked all vehicle based large scale FPS games released since Tribes 2 Base.
However, Arena is quickly becoming my favourite shooter since the year 2003. It is so good. It is strange that these two games can co-exist in one game.
I think the ranking system could be improved, so this post will be about suggestions and how I personally would do that. If you think I'm wrong somewhere, then lets discuss it.
The very first 10 placement matches:
This is probably the most important, because I see lots of people saying they are getting ranked into Divisions they do not belong to. I'm not sure how everyone I know of is placed into Onyx in the SWAT playlist, but 10 matches is clearly not enough to determine that people are good enough to be in the 2nd highest Division that is Onyx. I just don't think it should be possible to get ranked into Onyx after your first 10 placement matches, whatsoever. Lets take the StarCraft 2 ranking system as an example, because Josh Menke worked on both the Halo and the SC2 ranking system. In SC2 you have the following Divisions: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master and Grand Master. Pretty similiar to Halo 5's ranking system, but you only get to play 5 placement matches. The highest you can achieve there, for winning all placement matches, is Diamond. After that, you will have to play and win a lot of games to get into the Master Division. So, my first suggestion would be that there should be a similiar maximum in Halo 5's ranking system.
Here is an example of how it could look like:
Win 1 match out of 10 placement matches -> Placed into Bronze 1
Win 2 matches out of 10 placement matches -> Placed into Bronze 4
Win 3 matches out of 10 placement matches -> Placed into Silver 1
Win 4 matches out of 10 placement matches -> Placed into Silver 4
Win 5 matches out of 10 placement matches -> Placed into Gold 1
Win 6 matches out of 10 placement matches -> Placed into Gold 4
Win 7 or 8 matches out of 10 placement matches -> Placed into Platinum 1
Win 9 matches out of 10 placement matches -> Placed into Platinum 4
Win 10 matches out of 10 placement matches -> Placed into Diamond 1
Note that this probably isn't the most ideal method to place people into Divisions, but it's better than putting people into Platinum 1 while they lost 7 out of 10 placement matches. And this is no exaggeration, because it actually happens. We had a coupple examples in this thread already.
Next Season:
If I understood correctly, you will have to do 10 placement matches for every new Season. The reason why I wrote "The very first 10 placement matches" in my first bullet point is that you should not have to do all of those again, if you have been ranked in the previous Season. Instead, make it a best of 3. Two wins would mean you keep your rank and two losses means you lose a full rank. Means, if you finish Season 1 with a Platinum rank and you lose 2 out of 3 placement matches in Season 2, you should get placed into Gold. This is only viable, if you were placed in the previous Season. If you miss out on one Season, you should play all 10 placement matches again. This way, everybody will have a chance to continue directly from where they left off. The better players would also not have to grind that much.
Season Length:
I need to think about this more once the first Season is over, but I think 1 month is too short. We will see.

I also have a favour to ask you 343i. Please stop translating proper names into other languages. That includes: CSR ranks, maps, weapons, gamemodes and locations on the map itself.
I noticed, during a Stronghold match on The Rig, that the call outs are translated aswell. Makes it really confusing on where that location actually is on the map, when people who are not playing your game on english try to figure out what the call out might be called in english. Your game is focusing on the competetive aspect of MP and unified call outs would help a ton. Why the other things from my list shouldn't be translated should be self-explanatory.
Is crouching during a firefight a recommended strategy? I see plenty of folks doing that online, but...I don't see the benefit. In most instances it just provides me with a wider, slower target. All I need to do is aim down a bit. Just curious if I'm missing the benefit of such a tactic.
Yeah, the map/gametype weighting is really confusing. I have yet to see Empire in Slayer, or Fathom in Team Arena... many of these combinations exist. Would make each playlist feel much less stale if the a greater number of maps were incorporated in each, and were weighted so the best ones (read: not Orion) pop up a bit more often.

I have to agree. Warzone is too much focused on long range and vehicles. But Arena really is awesome for me. The last MP shooter I played was TF2 before it was free to play but Halo 5 Arena is better imho. Gives me vibes of UT which was my absolute favorite competitive Shooter game.

I like vehicle based large scale games, but warzone honestly makes me hate the game (when I play it). I play terribly and I'm just not sure what's going on. Teammates stand outside a building while it's being capped. Dudes running around with a warthog after the first base is taken. Getting BR fucked the whole match. I honestly thought I was terrible, but I'll play arena perfectly fine so I'm not sure if I'm getting fucked due to req perks or not.
I just have so many games where the opposing team get the edge early on and I'm camped back at base for half an hour. It's a miserable experience sitting back getting camped by tanks and ghosts. I feel like I'm wasting my time.
It really is crazy how much people can disagree about video games. I respect your opinion; but I absolutely despise how vehicles are handled in Warzone.
Can you guys elaborate on what you don't like about it? (Sorry if you already have earlier)
Personally seems okay to me however I've only played a handful of warzone matches. The req system is more of an issue than vehicles themselves.
This is probably my biggest issue atm. Regularly put in with Americans(speaking with them), and it adds a slight but noticeably delay in some games which often results in an extra shot or 2 needed to finish kills off. Can be a bit jarring from game to game.
You really have to wonder how much 343i actually tested maps like Orion/Pegasus. I mean, how? Lol. How could such poorly conceived maps ever be given the green light.
Haha, there are usually two sword Elites that spawn in there and I killed them and picked up a sword. Then I noticed someone from the other team picked up the other one. We had an epic sword battle that I somehow won.

Wow. How is it that you cannot talk to other people in the lobbies in this game? What a horrible user experience it is to switch to party chat every time the custom game ends to switch back to game chat when we start the next game. That's one huge ass mistake.

I sign the translation part of your post. It annoys me when I play the game in German and try to come up with a post here but have to look for the English term for something to make you guys understand me.
The ranking part is not so easy to tackle. Winning a game in free for all means being first. If you are always placed 2nd on your placement matches you would be still be ranked into bronze according to your logic. It should incorporate how you did compared to the players that with and against you.

Orion is kind of a question mark, tho. Assuming that that one's there to pad the count and show off the nature tools Forge will be sporting (which I must admit I'm pretty impressed with. Gonna be some great looking Forged BTB maps).

I touched on it in my post above yours. Some of my issues are petty, I admit. But it's just my experience. That mode gets me so heated at times that I'm tempted to chuck a controller.

- Zero point in playing solo. You get dicked by premades 24/7. Absolutely zero fun to be had in these instances, especially when they all have a shit load of good REQ cards.
- Everyone seems to have the longshot BR, no wonder cross mapping people always seemed to be a losing battle (solely in Warzone).
- Some guy running around with what seems to be a 3 shot BR
- Good luck on taking Spire/Fortress away from a team that isn't downright retarded.
I think potentially the issue with ranking is not the implementation itself, but that the algorithm used to place you is not fully calibrated yet. I assume/hope it is not some flat calculation but actually something which takes into account overall population stats/trends and as such "evolves" with more data. Would be really nice to hear more info on how it works from the powers that be.
You could try teaming up with GAF people, warzone is pretty team focused imo. But at end of day it's just a very different game mode so I wouldn't sweat it too much. BTB soon™!

How I feel. My own fault, I should be playing with my clan. I'm constantly three shot killed. I've blasted people only for them to turn around and 3-shot me. I'd equate it to skill, but in arena, I don't have this issue.
I do. No game related issues so far. I have got an annoying issue where the system can't connect to the internet on startup without a reboot first, though. Hopefully it'll soon be fixed. I have naturally reported it.
I called it before launch when i had a chance to play it. This was going to be clans/teams going against each other and pubstomps otherwise. There is zero reason to go into this mode by yourself.
Honestly, the image quality and terrible animation lod (?) makes this game look appear worse than a remaster of last gen. I don't feel like there is much point in having 60fps with this many 30fps animations on the screen etc. It gives this awful vibe like the game is unfinished, like something is running in the background, choking the Xbox One.
I love the multiplayer though. My only complaint is the sound design. But anyway, while the sound design in Halo has always been a bit iffy, it is really bad in Halo 5. I can get hit by two lightrifle shots and think that maybe the SFX are broken.
There is so much overlay. I don't like 343's Halo 4 art-style (where everything is bloomy full of lens flare etc.), but the overlay actually ads to that. I would often be fighting an enemy from long distance, appreciating that I don't need to ADS to have perfect accuracy, and yet I can't tell what the fuck I am shooting at. A head? An enemy with one weapon or the other? I don't know, it's just a blob of orange light anyway.
And I keep reminding myself, outside of the MCC image quality in Halo has always been sub-par, but there is definitely something wrong when it's what I end up complaining about all the time.
Going from Halo 5 to Destiny, and the 60v30fps feel gets in. The fact that in Destiny you can't do shit while jumping etc. All of that. Halo has better design for its gunplay. But going from Destiny to Halo 5? The appreciation of 60fps quickly wears off and in return it's just a very frustrating experience. I know Halo 5 looks better than everything from last gen, but it feels like that. I feels like I remember Halo 4 feeling, when I loaded it up on my 360 last year. It doesn't feel dated, it feels... like it just was developed in the wrong direction, or unfinished?
Anyway most of my complaints are exclusive to its campaign; while I am not very far into it, I am starting to realised that maybe what I hated so much of Halo Reach wasn't actually its level-design and enemy AI being annoying, but the whole idea of a campaign built around a fireteam.
Oh do I have fond memories of CE and ODST, feeling like I am actually going through an experience that was meant for solo play and did so well at it.
I just can't really say this campaign is good when Wolfenstein came out not too long ago, and I can't really say this campaign is good for a Halo campaign... It's just, better than Halo 4, I guess.
EDIT: Why does sprinting feel so jarring? Like... my character has a headache or something
this reminds me I did an assassination on someone and I stabbed their spine but because I died after that but before the animation could finish the guy got back up with full shields, in halo reach the game knew which part of the animation was the kill frame, halo 5 doesn't do such a thing? or the servers were lagging...

If that's the assassination I'm thinking of, then I shot him before the part that kills, and that particular assassination only has one hit, so I'm thinking it does to some degree.
Game was also spot on connection wise from what I remember.
