Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

I need help understanding what Requisitions are.

For example, I have a requisition called Beam Rifle | Rare +100. Does that mean I have to chance to pick up this weapon in Arena/Warzone?

But then I have other requisitions for Power Ups, like Active Camo I | Uncommon +75. How can I activate these powerups?

LOL. Angry Joe's review mentions not one BUT TWICE that the game should be reviewed as is, then spends 5 minutes lamenting hypothetical future nefarious microtransaction changes.

What a joke.

I generally like Angry Joe, but this time it felt like he was complaining just to complain.

Frankie! My number one complaint about the game right now is that shields and text for your troops will sometimes go Red/Green colourblind for me and I can't tell who is who. This is extremely bad for me when team mates are in vehicles in Warzone. I cannot tell if they are good guys or bad guys and I will sometimes fire on my own men.

Please please please change these colours or make them more obvious. Someone at 343 has to be as red green colourblind as I am.

Yes!! Raise the banner of many unknowable colors!! It just seems like an easy thing to implement for a condition that is actually fairly common.

Well it's taken a few days but I finally feel like I'm starting to get the hang of this. I feel like I was a lot better at 4.

Bought the Halo 5 console. It's gorgeous.

Will be playing for a while. Username is BrightLightLava if anyone wants to add me.

Edit: Fair warning, I'm still occasionally terrible.

I generally like Angry Joe, but this time it felt like he was complaining just to complain.

I'd love to see him do the math behind League of Legends' cosmetic microtransactions. Or literally any other game on the planet.

And then he blames Twitch culture on the somehow 'reverse aging' Halo community? Why would older players retiring lead the current playerbase to be younger than before?? Wouldn't they just be the same average age, with new players cycling in and older ones cycling out?

Also, I love the rhetoric about being 'attacked' by an entire community. It's the same old cable news channel tactic of attaching ridiculous terminology to otherwise common and mundane occurrences to ratchet up the drama.

I could get behind the score if his arguments were based on anything other than a hyper-aversion to microtransactions. In this case, it seems like he set out with an agenda to push and has successfully done so. There are legitimate points he makes, but he ruins the overall message by being off base on his major points.

We need to know if you can beat 2 or 3 other players.

Uh, yes? I'm sure you could as well on occasion? It was never "easy", but it's simply much harder to do so in Halo 5, even against new players, due to the reasons I stated above, or should i repeat myself yet again. I guess that's just too much for some of you to understand. So much fucking selective reading in this thread.

As cool as the 343 play date thing is, the chances of searching at the same time and matching up against them must be pretty slim. And then you've gotta beat em :3

Angry Joe's Review

He complains about Split-Screen within the first 5 mins...

...clearly never read anything in 6 months.

Also, Halo not sold in UK? Dead.
Holy shit. I've agreed with Joe in the past but honestly this is a terrible review. The lack of split screen is indeed disappointing but he never mentions the actual reason for it (60FPS) and instead goes on a rant about some conspiracy regarding MS trying to get us to buy more copies of the game.

Delayed content is also a bit of a letdown but that's been a thing since Halo 3. Plus the only two true Forge Maps in that game came in map packs. Forge looks better than ever with 5.

Most importantly, microtransactions are worth it if it means free maps. Arena mode is back to what Halo should be and the best it has been since Halo 2, yet microtransactions ruin the game for him. Yes I wish I could get armor from unlocks and that is a minor gripe of mine but my biggest concern is the gameplay, which 343 paid attention to and absolutely nailed this time.

I was constantly unlocking armor items in 4 but it didn't matter because so much of the game was inherently broken due to its design and reliance on CoD Mechanics.

The microtransactions, aside from the armor stuff, only affect Warzone. Halo 5 is a much bigger budget game than the PC Shooters he likes which means far more developers and salaries as well. Actually doing the math behind microtransactions would inform one that not only does it generate the funds that would have been received from map packs, it provides more revenue than before, allowing for even more content and better pay for developers. I choose not to buy them but that is not affecting my experience with the game at all.

I just hate how he feels the need to turn everything into a conspiracy, in which developers are collaborating with corporate against consumers. He seems to also praise every game that is just open world now for the sake of having content, even if the content is repetitive and dull (looking at you Dragon Age) yet completely ignores games like the Souls Series because he chooses not to have the patience for them.

I'm getting off topic but he's just been getting out of hand recently and people who have clearly never played the game are cheering him on in the comments. Yeah I can see why mods aren't allowing threads on this guy anymore.

I was just stirring you up. You know because you come across like a huge ass hole I was just having a bit of fun :(

I find there is way too much stress associated with grabbing the sniper rifle or RL. Feel like it you don't rock with it you are letting your team down. DMR is a happy medium between killing power and not feeing like an asshole if you fuck up and get killed holding it. Hydra the same as a replacement for the RL.

Sniper definitely has stress as you feel inclined to do really well and hold the map, but I've never felt that way with the RL as I've always found it very easy to use well. The biggest thing to worry about is making sure you don't just die without really using it to allow the other team to grab it off of you.

.

60 fps shouldnt even be a reason to cut Splitscreen. It just screams that someone fucked something up with the engine.

Other games like Black Ops 3 and Battlefront which are 60fps too, still offer Splitscreen just fine. Even if only 30fps while splitscreen.

After playing the H5 campaign, i wondered why exactly they had to cut Splitscreen. Nothing in the campaign screamed that it wouldnt work at 30fps. Hey most of the animations are running at 30fps anyway lol.

I'm really starting to warm up to Breakout. It's nothing special but it's a nice break from the usual modes. Would love to see Oddball/KoTH/etc come back at some point as well.

Still can't get over how much fun this game is. 100% turnaround from 343's past work.

Is that it?

This happens for me too (also red/green colorblind) and thought I was losing it, because I could swear my own teammates looked like enemies at times. That must be it.

Colorblind options in shooters are so important because you have to make so many quick decisions and you may only have the color of an outline or work with. One moment of hesitation to avoid a possible betrayal and you're toast.

I agree that the campaign should have probably had split screen but it's his reasoning for it that pisses me off: He's not countering any points and making a legitimate argument. He's claiming that MS and 343 want us to buy multiple consoles and games based on a poor comment made by Phil at one point.

And Battlefront is only for the missions, nothing online, which is different since judging by the missions seem already, they're on a much smaller scale than Halo 5 and only 2 player.

I agree that AngryJoes arguments are BS. Fully agree. I really dont like his recent Rants and Reviews anyway. He got really worse over the years.

Oh right, you contradict yourself in the next sentence.

Uhm not really? You have to render two players or more, of course you have to split the framerate in half.

Maybe the dRes caused the split cut?

Probably. Which to me doesnt sound like a very well designed engine.

I miss Griffball.

What the hell. I missed out on some neat dialogue for Mission 9.

-Vale calling out Chief/Cortana relationship
-Buck and Veronica Dare are apparently dating. Again.
-Comments on Halsey's relationship with S2 Spartans.

....what?

You just said that the engine was fucked because it couldn't do split screen 60, then said that it would obviously be at 30fps.

Dude.

Not having split screen sucks, but this engine is fucking solid.

I dunno if I could go that far. Not entirely sure if it's a console or engine limitation, but things like the 30fps animations on certain characters and the wicked pop-in are super jarring.

It goes without saying that Microsoft would want your friend to buy an additional Xbox One and copy of Halo 5, but you sort of missed his point, which is that the only way to currently get that experience with your friend is by them buying another system and copy of the game. That's just a simple matter of fact, and Joe stating as much isn't wrong.

The main rant on that was about Phil's laughably bad PR response to the reason why. Honestly, Phil should have just responded with I don't know, or technical issues or whatever else, but the reason he gave was just silly, and came off sounding disingenuous.

Whilst I would have made use of and enjoyed split screen, it's not a big deal for me. I understand it is for many people though. For me the Requisition system is a much bigger issue and negative. I personally had no idea so many hours would be required to unlock everything. The time it would take is probably a lot more than Angry Joe's prediction of 660 hours, as most games last longer than 10 minutes, and there's the RnG element too. Really, no game should require 1000 (maybe more) hours of play to unlock everything, especially an online shooter like this. It is quite clearly designed to incentivise micro transactions.

Obviously not an expert, but I would say this is a limitation of the hardware. The engine maintains 60fps 99.9% of the time, and those things were trade offs to get that out of the hardware.

We're talking about 650ti levels of power here.

Wow, didn't know you were an elzar-tier scrub
I had the painful..uh...first hand experience of OddOnes halo ability in the beta.

I just want more variety. I've only put 15 hours or so in the multiplayer and I'm already bored with some of the maps.

Same. I'm only a 27 I think and the same 4 maps get super old. Arena needs a big injection of new maps stat.

I'm absolutely loving H5 but I'll be for sure taking a break for BLOPS3.... Already burned out.

So a Legendary Arena RP boost(Claim reward at end of match) netted me 750. An Ultra rare warzone RP boost gave me over 1500

arena rp boosts are crap

Arena is a terrible place to be playing if you're trying to net RP. If you're just focused on Arena the extra little boost is nice but Warzone is where you gotta be for the majority of your RP. Boosts are a must.

Before I begin, please tell me if I--at any point in this post--come off as aggressive or hostile or disingenuous or even simply misinformed.

Continuing on.

If I remember correctly, the microtransactions in the game were by and large a tradeoff between community "togetherness" when it comes to who has what maps/content, and the money required to produce said content. It was either going to be paid DLC map packs/content packs or microtransactions, as 343 Industries has alluded to in the past (again, this is if I'm recalling my facts correctly). As it stands, the system currently in place is largely to fund, not only those aforementioned map packs and content downloads, but the competitive community and, obviously, some healthy margin of profit.

It stands to reason that the issue is centered more on the decision of what money goes where and what should be prioritized than simply the principle of the matter or the relative level of timesink each option entails (timesink vs. no timesink).

Bear in mind: while, ideally, developers should support their games post-launch with added content at no extra cost--similar to how things were largely done back during the late 90s and early 2000s (with regards to online multiplayer competitive games)--games of today cost a shit ton of money to make, and extra content isn't exactly free in any case, as someone's gotta pay money /somewhere/, even if that someone is not the individual player.

If you want the community to retain its "togetherness" with regards to added content, then the tradeoff is microtransactions. If not, then it's pay however much per content pack.

I recognize that the issue might not be as cut and dry as I've laid it out on the proverbial table, but with my admittedly limited knowledge of the game's development--even The Sprint doesn't really elaborate too much on every fine detail--I can't logically deduce other options, based on the information we're given.

Personally, I'd rather see the microtransactions stay and simply be tweaked towards a more sensible endgoal, because I kinda want my "free" maps.

The dynamic resolution is probably the culprit. I can't even imagine how they would make that work with splitscreen.

This is like ITT Tech dropout level understanding of game engines:

CODE START

FRAMES GO 60

IF PLAYERS >1

FRAMES/2

END PROGRAM

Yeah, there's a lot of neat dialogue in there if you linger around forever. The only reason I heard these was because of the intel/skull hunting I was doing.

word. Arena doesn't use REQs anyway right? so it doesn't matter.

Just got done mission 14 on solo legendary, thank god that shit is over.
The Warden is without a doubt the worst thing in this campaign, so annoying to fight, I hope hes gone for good.

I'm gonna finish up the campaign tomorrow, but I've enjoyed it quite a lot otherwise.
