Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

Reduce the nade count.

Nade spamming is too prevalent in the game. Granted I've abused it myself countless times, but it really does make for overly sloppy and pot luck based mayhem, that devalues skill and actual gunplay.

No joke dude. With three types of nades you can have 6 on you at any given moment. Wtf? The nades are so damn powerful on top of that. Something should change

Matchmake to fill the gaps.

If people drop out, have the matchmaking system being someone in to fill the gap as soon as possible. Going entire matches with uneven numbers can be a frustrating affair.
Nah I disagree. They should keep it as is. I mean would you want to be that player that joins in late to find out the team you joined is getting their ass kicked? That would be even worse than losing a player.

Actually, now that I think about it, would it be a good idea to have a playlist you select where you are looking for games where the team is missing a player? To incentivize this, they could double the req points earned for you.

Feels good

There's a conceptual gap here. If the game thinks I'm good enough to play with Diamond players, why won't it push me towards a diamond rank?

I get how the system functions. But I'm starting to doubt it's effectiveness. Wish you could voluntarily reset a playlist rank, but alas people would exploit that.

Well, Its basically like numbered rank, not always you got matched with people you own number sometimes 1 or 2 numbers higher, and you had to win 2 or 3 consecutive games to Skill up, and go down in rank sometimes with just one lost.

Also take in consideration that is a sum of your true skill and whoever is matched in your team.

I can't stop playing this game, up to level 36 in multiplayer. But good lord, they inflated their map count and that's the thing that bugs the most. There are really only 11 maps not including forge maps. 8 arena maps and 3 Warzone (how did they arrive at 6?). For some reason Eden, Empire, Pegasus and Truth aren't in the Slayer playlist, so we have 6 maps in Slayer. Breakout is fun and Warzone is pretty cool, but watering down the most consistently popular Halo playlist is just a bad move that I don't understand.

They need to put the breakout maps in regular slayer or something.

I wish they would show how much progress you make to get to the next rank like in the beta... I found that to be very addictive g.

Also I like orion, it's probably my favorite slayer map right now even though it looks like shit.

BTW I love how all the Promethean weapons now feel like they lived up to their awesome techno sci fi feeling potential. In Halo 4 almost all of these weapons were boring duds but now they feel like they earned their place in the arsenal.

343 should make it like Respawn did for Titanfall: have join in progress for arena, but a loss doesn't count and win does. Everyone is happy now.

Yeah that's what confused the shit outa me. 6 Warzone maps... and the "8" arena maps don't even exist to me when i play the same 3-4 over and over in Arena or Slayer... including Breakout maps in the count is lame as well. Really weaksauce initial map delivery. But awesome gameplay so i really can't complain too much.

Launch reminds me of my hype and simultaneous disappointment i had in Destiny vanilla at launch. Superb mechanics (minus H5's aim curve) low content/over-promising.

Actually, there should be a join in progress button where if you push it it looks for a game to join. Normal matcmaking should not put you into JIP games and everyone wins

You can always create a new gamertag and use shared gold to kind of reset. It's not like there are any multiplayer achievements that you won't already have after two hours of MP, so might just switch to a different tag for the time being.

That's hardly a solution. Losing spartan rank, GT and not gaining REQ points, only for 14 days.

They need to revise how the system works on their end. If you win against people of lower rank, you should not advance (much). If you lose against higher ranks, you shouldn't be penalized.

In Trueskill terms, add a coefficient to sigma that scales inversely with the mean of all players' ranks in a game (relative to the player). I'm sure they're already doing this under the hood. They just need to make it effect the rank/tier system.

Absolutely, yea I would be fine being that player. A lot of other games do it that way and I don't mind at all. One, because it's usually easy experience, points or whatever else (as long as you get a full matches worth even if you joined late), and two, because it's satisfying turning things around for people.

x2 on this

So, the Noble helmet is a rare. Would buying Silver Packs then increase my chances of getting one, or are drop rates for rares in Silver packs rather low?

I've had better luck with silver packs finding anything from uncommon to rare. It may be the same chance that you'll get that stuff, but the fact that it's half as many req points to get one definitely increases your odds.

Another map I actually also dislike quite a bit is Empire. I like Eden, but Empire is just too cramped IMO. Strongholds is especially messy on it with the pit stronghold being absolutely brutal. They should just scale the whole map up by like 15% or something.

Empire is good for slayer, but is too chaotic for strongholds... Maybe people when come up with better strategies, but the pit welcomes too much grenade spam.

Maybe they should move the middle strong hold.

I hated Eden until I played strongholds on it. It's perfect for that mode.

Well that's fair. To me though arena is something where you should start fresh every game since if you lose, you're going down in rank.

I'd rather keep ranked matches the way they are with no JiP but introduced 1-2 unranked playlists that include JiP.

Don't want anyone on my team whose rank will go unaffected win or lose

And I don't want to be beating someone only to have them quit and replaced by a better player

Went into Team Arena and finally got to play some Slayer on Eden and Empire. Is there still no word on additional maps being added to the Slayer playlist. This thread moves so fast I can barely keep up.

Surely your in the minority. Other games do it because they have XP based ranking systems instead of skill based ones.

They need to just have some unranked playlists. I love the game, but I find this omission baffling

No there aren't. Really kinda bummed at the map quantity and quality. They all play great (save for Orion - die in a fire) but nothing inspired or "feel" delivering or with any cool asymmetrical purpose. I miss maps like Zanzibar and Terminal...

People keep saying this over and over and over...and then they mention btb maps...This mode isn't even out yet

You can see the progress in the Halo Waypoint webpage.

Yea I would rather they either dont put in JiP at all or put in a seperate matchmaking for JiP that doesn't impact regular matchmaking.

How is that better than Respawn's solution, though?

I understand why some people would like that, but this is the type of things that was already put into Halo and didn't worked well, like not getting descope when you get shot.

Quitting also messes with ranks. Maybe 343 needs to be more aggressive with bans.

Are you talking about just JIP or JIP with modifications?

I agree, but is there a way to tell who is quitting and who is getting disconnecting from the server?

Im talking about the idea of JiP in general, regardless of modification.

There should be a couple of permanent social playlists, like social slayer, FFA and BTB. The more goofy stuff could be for weekends or something.

I don't know, I doubt it. In all honesty being a lower rank is sort of a good thing in this game, especially if you play mostly solo like me.

I think what they really need is non party versions of all the modes, especially in this game where numbers often count for more than aiming skill.

I wish they'd do a few things to the matchmaking.

Remove Breakout from Team Arena.

Add the missing maps to TA and Slayer.

Burn Orion.

Daily matchmaking missions that reward req packs.

If you quit a match, your options are a) Matchmaking ban or b) Rejoin the match you quit, and only that match.

Add a mercy rule. If at least two players drop, it gives a vote prompt on your next death to end the match. If both remaining players agree, it ends the match.

There's probably other stuff I'm not thinking of, but the way they have things set up right now has a lot of problems.

The problem with a matchmaking ban is it clearly isn't enough of a disincentive to stop people from quitting, they need to work on more incentives for staying.

Yes, I am sure there is a message sent to server when a player manually quits. Problem is, people will just cut their internet instead of manually quitting if that distinction is made.

Man, been having some terribad Warzone games today. Teammates just been scrubbing it up, not going after bosses, ditching bases, I don't get it.

Yes.

So say we all. Especially remove it from SWAT, it's just... there are no words.

That would be great. Not sure why they omitted daily/weekly challenges.

I've always asked for this. Would be a fantastic feature.

"Surrender" function, causing zero change in all players' ranks. Yes please.

Yeah, that too, I mean a mercy rule, is not a bad option, the game giving you the option to quit if Half of your team is out. so far I havent quit my first game in Halo 5, and when I went no friends to Matchmaking, sometimes I was left with just another person in my team, I have been lucky that its usually at the end of the match, there was one where it was halfway and I had to endure 25 kills from the other team.

Im not someone that cares too much about this, this was the same in Halo 3 ranked, people are going to quit when they feel like they are going to loose, and even JiP will do little to help, if Someone joins a game that its already loopsided or they happen to be the second or 3rd player joining that team, they are not going to waste their time on this, and quit this game right away.

I have a crazy notion that is pure speculation and based on zero evidence. Please let me know if there is actual evidence contradicting me.

I wonder if we will see Halo's first campaign DLC? There seems like a ton of potent story to be told from Blue Team's side that happens off screen. This feels strange for a company like 343 who is so invested in the story. Perhaps it is just the strange truncation that seemed to afflict the storytelling in H5 but consider this:

Despite what people accuse him of Frankie doesn't come on here and do a bunch of bald-faced lying. He may dissemble or obfuscate to preserve secrets and he is beholden to the mandates of company PR but he is generally pretty straight up with us when he can be. Considering that, we were told that the campaign was twice the length of H4, which while I disagree with those that say H5 is too short, it most certainly is not twice the length of H4. Also he told us that the playtime split between characters was roughly the same and clearly that is inaccurate as well.

All this makes my brain form a conspiracy theory that the Halo 5 story is not yet fully told. What do you think? Am I nuts or just a dummy?

I am def a dummy and nuts regardless

Tried other's suggestion of buying silver and bronze packs until i unlock a lot more commedations.

I've received more armor, helmets and visors than any other pack i receieved. Probably because they are cheap and i i can spam them somewhat.

commedation and promotion packs are almost insta sells for me.
