Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

Like I said. Let them try it and let the numbers speak for themselves. It has been a long while since we got that style of game. We liked it for reasons. I don't need halo 5 that much when cod, titanfall 2,destiny will be doing the same things. Just find one that does a little more i like. I hadn't been playing destiny but I think I should try it to see how the map design is. It was just ok in the beta but the shooting and movement did for better than halo 5. I'm still a bit weary on destiny though.

Yeah, Halo doesn't really play like any of those games...

There's more to halo5 than sprinting and clambering...

The guns/grenades/melee trifecta is still intact. In fact, the gun balancing aspect is better handled in this game that in franchise history. Map control and power weapon management is back...

It's literally everything a hardcore halo fan would expect, plus more mobility options. Ofcourse not everyone is happy about the additions... But the same was said when H2 launched.

We can argue about whether the series decline in sales is due purely to formula additions, or due to the basic formula being less appealing in today's market. We'll never know the answer. But I strongly doubt a game that mimics H3 in every way imaginable is going to magically bring everyone who left halo back into the fold AND attract newcomers...

This modern era thing is just ridiculous. As if future like settings makes things modern now.. It isn't like these games were the first to have jet packs and sprinting anyways..

What makes sprinting and thrusters modern? Man this is just ludicrous to me. Do you guys realize what your saying. Modern is such a bad word for this, popular or overly used? Sure, but what makes it.modern? Does that really make sense?

Resolution, special effects, pk this is modern. Controls and controllers. Tvs and many things. But basic gameplay? So now gears of war also needs what to be modern?

Id also love for call of duty to go back to larger maps, vehicles, slower pace and feel like a war field myself. But in this modern era... Guess we can have such a thing.

Sprinting and thrusters aren't inherently modern. But playing so many games with more movement options for the last 6 years (reach and H4 MP were trash, so I largely skipped them) and then going back and playing MCC was pretty jarring for me.

The H5 implementation of Thrusters had a level nuance to duals that channels timed-crouching in H2. Evading a kill shot, and then delivering on of your own feels good. And not being able to do it today, would not feel as good.

Sprinting could be replaced with a higher movement speed, and I wouldn't care, but it's currently used as a modifier for Spartan Abilities. I feel like the Spartan Abilites add to the meta, rather than take away. So it "modernized" the meta by way of adding new things for old players to learn.

I swear playing coliseum and fathom and doing poorly makes me want to fastball my controller into the television.
I have a similar reaction every time Orion pops up.

I don't think I've yet to lose on Coliseum with my group, love that map. And I'm really coming around my Fathom.

There has yet to be a halo that was halo since a decline in player base.

Just as all the pros said. Halo 3 still easily had another year in the mag circuit when reach was out.

There is more weight in saying the classic halo is the way to go.

Halo reach did good but wasn't a fit for many players. Halo 4 did quite poor in player count and had bad maps and movement.

Now, halo 5 again has bad maps and clamber.

All I'm saying is, we haven't had a classic halo do bad yet. But we have seen drops in the last three.

So, it won't hurt to try classic actual halo will it? Take the chance.

People didn't leave halo cause they forgot halo. They left halo cause it was no longer halo.

When I watch washy, the final boss twins or many others on twitch during h4 or something. They simple have a look on their face that you can tell they aren't enjoying the games that much. I'm sure they would be back for that classic halo. That's the reason they try the new games to begin with. To see if that had happened I have fb, Xbl friends that are all doing the same. These are from h3 and I know this is just my take. I know I know. But all these guys say nag I ain't touching that halo 5 shit . I ask them to play cause they are beasts. Even at halo 4. But they won't even come play the damn game and it just sucks to me.

I can understand them though as I know what they like cause I do too.

I have learned the super cheese for orion. Go to the mid and camp the Promethean grenades, if you can hold the spot you'll laugh your way to victory. They literally spawn every 20 seconds or so and you have amazing cover as well as escapes.

So tired of the "let the population numbers speak for themselves" argument.

Wouldn't matter if Halo 5 had "classic" halo gameplay and sat at 99/100 on metacritic it still wouldn't reach the numbers H2/H3 had. So many factors go into how many people are playing the game...

--

Ultimately tho I don't care if the game feels like Halo or not. All I care about is if the game is good on it's on merits regardless of how it compares to past games... and the game is damn good

Not a bad idea, Promethean grenades are sneaky good.

But this is a better argument, mostly because it's the only hard evidence in the decline along with the major changes to base gameplay. I am not saying a base halo style halo 6 would do halo 3 numbers. I am trying to be fair. But I do think it would do better than 4 and 5.

Pretty much every weapon spawn on that map is an excellent power position. Exemption being rocket hill, of course.

You are drawing conclusions without all the data... You are right, halo popularity started declining inline with movement away from its roots as an arena shooter (which is back btw)

But you have no idea how much of that is due the addition of new abilities, or due FPS fans simply preferring other titles or a general Lessened deman for arena shooter. Casual shooter fans, who made up a very large portion of Halo 2 and 3 sales, probably just aren't interested in arena shooters these days.

Like I said, the Halo5 meta is very similar to H2's. Clamber and Sprint don't change that fact.

Anybody getting alotta match reporting failures? Where the progress of your last match isnt saved and the req points lag in when they get added?

I agree with you that I don't know but I would easily place high wagers that a classic halo and maps would still do better. That's all I'm saying.. Instead of my little gripes and issues with the game you'd see me celebrating like a powerball winner. :)

every game tonight had the glitched post screen where you could not see your stats nor your packages. bullshit. It's never been this bad.

I wish the Halo 5 is good or bad debate could have another thread. I want to chat about the game. Not if it is good compared to Halo 2/3.

So when do i see my weapon skin? I have one equipped but when i pick up a dmr it is the basic skin. Is it only in Warzone?

skins only work if you start with a weapon. so for know, you will only see it in warzone.

Agreed but can't make threads. I think a "What makes Halo 5 mp good and what are the current problems" thread would be a great idea.

It seems to be one or two people in particular. The ignore button will remove that noise from the thread - or make the topic yourself and quote a couple of posts from here to get it going...

well in arena you only start with magnum and AR..
i have a DMR skin
two actually
and have never seen it lol..

What. The. Fuck.

Well there goes any interest whatsoever I had in the req cosmetics.

This never occurred to me because the only skins I had so far were the freebie AR skins, but if you can't see other weapon skins in arena that is super lame.

Man the req system is even worse than I thought it was, and I already thought it was pretty badly implemented.

Well Breakout has SMG starts and SWAT BR starts so you use the skins you have for those weapons in those modes.

4 matches of Breakout I just played. In 1 of them 2 people left, and in another 1 person left.

Fucking stupid.

Can't seem to win in Breakout anymore. Doesn't help that the people on the enemy team seem to never miss.

Like jesus, I just had a guy in an match instant get 3 headshots, never missing a single shot, and had to keep turning around the map to get them.
I hate so say people are hacking but when they seem to know where you're at all times and never miss a shot, it's hard to not feel like it. Even if it's not
happening.

Well, that kills my last bit of interest in the REQ system, which I found clunky and tedious anyway. The one thing that made me care a little bit were the BR / DMR skins, which are pretty hard to get considering their rarity and the fact there are so few of them to begin with, they just get drowned by endless helmets, armors, emblems and certification unlocks.

I guess it makes sense that plain pick-up weapons on a map don't just magically get an instant paint job as you grab them. They should, though.

are there any good players around the japan asian region?

I don't know how matchmaking assigns regions; I live in Tokyo, but my console's region is set to the UK. Matchmaking is inhabited by mostly Americans and the occasional mainland European, I haven't heard a single Japanese voice yet.

I guess that might be because there are about 50 Xbox Ones in the country....

Regardless, the netcode is good and I haven't seen any lag, disconnects or other problems.

Yup, for some reason the game is littered with quitters. There needs to be harsher penalties for quitting.
Maybe because more have the same problem as me, shoreu and fracas getting booted randomly from games.

I always feel bad for my mates cause I don't know if I will be able to stay in game.

Wait what? Really? That's dumb as fuck.

How do you expect a static weapon spawn to magically change colours at least 8 times in a match? If you drop your weapon, is it supposed to magically change to whoever picks it up? Do you know how difficult that would be? DMR will never be a starting weapon so it was always relegated to warzone where you'd see your skin.

It could still be early impressions, but I look at this game and I'm not having the negative impressions that I did when Halo 4 was fresh. So at the very least, 343 did gooderer than their last full game.

If you are a good player we can try. When i try to play with uk or american people it won't us start a game and I have yet to play with anyone.

I have played every game alone and I wish they would change this issue.

I'm just a rank plat 3 but should be higher imo I wont a lot of games in a row to go up to that but i had to dominate quite a few of them to win.

It seems to base things on ping and that makes it difficult for me.

What's your tag? wouldn't hurt to try

Same as my tag here. The coming month is busy, but add me and we'll see what we can do.

PS I make no promises about the quality of my marksmanship.

The scattershot definitely seems weaker than in Halo 4. A guy took a point blank shot with all shots hitting him and he only got reduced to no shield.

Also, if you see someone with this gun, run.

Obligatory (god they're ugly from waypoint) spartan post.

But I saw players with both AR and magnum skins in Arena. I picked up a red AR once, how do they have those skins?

I guess i'm near he end of the game

I haven't really known very well what is with blue and red team but i want to guess that locke wants to kill cortana and chief won't. They will get into a bit of a squabble?

maybe I am completely wrong. Hope this isn't seen as spoilers cause nothing in the game says this will happen as far as I can tell. They were almost on good terms by this point.

did you even read what was written on this page? only start weapons get a skin...and Magnum as well as AR are start weapons in arena.

I'm starting to get more anger than fun out of this game. Just played arena slayer. We lost and I made 15 kills while my team members only made 12
together...

I had the highest accuracy from everyone, most power weapon kills but of course because my team lost my rank went down..

I just finished the first 2 campaign missions.

So the story is:

"I'm gonna go look for Cortana." - master chief

"No chief, we're sending another team"

"Fuck you I do what I want" - master chief

"Okay let's go bring in master chief"
That's seriously the inciting incident of this game?

like they say you can't do that chief and he literally just says "no". TIME FOR THE GREATEST HUNT OF ALL TIME YOU GUYS.

Seriously, the story has to be one of the cheapest parts of game development. It just costs a writer's time and skill. So... You know... Hire a good writer.

John was caught off guard by the response of Lasky which made it clear that Lasky already knew Cortana was 'alive' somewhere and they did not inform him. Meanwhile Halsey already mentions that John is not fit to handle this Cortana and perhaps fears he might turn on humankind because of it. You can't risk humankinds greatest hero start a fight against the people he saved, that's why you send the best after him
