Fallout 4 has gone gold; leaked gameplay vids

Had to stop at Wal-Mart on the way home from work to pick a few things. Mind you, in all my years of gaming I never once stumbled upon a game that released early due to a broken street date(which didn't change today) but that didn't stop me from wandering into the gaming section with the slightest glimmer of hope...

It felt like Witcher, MGS, and Bloodborne all snuck up on me but time seems to be slowing down as the 10th approaches. Fuck.

Can you not move at all when the core is depleted? If not what are the penalties for 0% core?

Not sure but was watching the XBO stream and the guy mentioned offhand that whenever you exit the PA, there is a dedicated icon on your map for where you left it. So that could mean if fusion core is depleted that it does kick you out and it is effectively stranded in place until you can swap a new core in.

Or perhaps it is more of a movement based penalty. No jumpjets or sprinting perhaps? Maybe a "Walking Only" low power mode.

Not gonna take part in either revering or hating on the map size, but to me it's actually interesting that it seems to be significantly smaller than Skyrim's map. Interesting because almost without exception devs have only made the maps larger when moving onto next gen. Some even a lot larger. Seeing bethesda's new game on next gen actually be smaller than their last game which was on last gen is a bit of a surprise. I do hope that FO4 has a lot of density
underwater since almost 1/3 of the map is water and the map as a whole is smaller than Skyrim

Bummed by the spoilered :/

Too much water indeed

Why does map size matter? They have ALREADY said it's a bigger game than Skyrim. Nevermind that the Skyrim map is wider with more non-walkable terrain inside it's play area.

The streamer on right now has been playing for a good while, and hasn't even made it to Diamond City.

TLDR: Map comparisons are irrelevant.

For me, the bigger the area, the more cool things to see and find. With this being their new game, and on new consoles, i was expecting it to be the largest they've ever made. I'm not too bothered by it, it's way bigger than FO3. Which i was fine with from a comparison someone did a few pages back. Now that i saw Skyrim's...........lol.

Got this from the Xbox One Reddit:

Taken from /r/FO4:

I pulled the grid values from here: http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/92563/fallout-map-size-in-game-cells

Using the following dimensions:

FO3 = 51x51 (3.4 square miles)

FO4 = 84x84 (9.33 square miles)

Skyrim = 119x94 (14.8 square miles)

If accurate.....Bethesda wasn't entirely telling the truth about being about the same size as Skyrim. It is what it is.

Give me story and content and proper quests over size please. Pack it in in a smaller area, if necessary. We all should have learned that lesson after Dragon Age Inquisition.

We now know what a terrible thing size alone can potentially be. One way ticket to MMO-ville. Can you imagine if Bethesda were to Inquisitionify Fallout? Shudder.

Can someone explain why Amazon gave me so many discounts on this game? I ordered it a month or so ago, and I check my invoice and it has THREE Prime discounts, two for ten dollars off and one for 6. I mean, I'm not complaining, just wondering if there's something about Amazon's game deals I'm missing.

Haven't decided if i should pull the trigger and buy 16GB of ram, will probably decide based on how the game runs monday.

Ram has dropped in price quite a bit lately, it could'nt hurt to have more, but I'd be surprised if you have at least 8 it'd be an issue. I'd been running 8gb's for quite a while and finally just a few weeks ago upgraded to ensure I was set for Battlefront. And Chrome. Chrome is a fuggin' ram hog.

"there's a band called one thousand and twenty three megabytes. They haven't got a gig yet."

Oh Codsworth lol.

You can still move but you can't sprint and you can't fast travel in the armor like you normally can. If you have to abandon a suit, it leaves a little helmet marker on your map of where it's at.

Glad to read the game runs well on XB1.

Bsigg12, any pop in, lod issues?

A little pop in but nothing egregious.

Do you get +HP on level up?

I love the sound of that.

I hate to keep nagging but can you post some screenshots?

I just bought a 16 kit. I wanna be able to record with obs and my comp couldnt really handle battlefront.

You're awesome man. Does fast traveling in the suit deplete the core?

Graphics looks pretty decent on the stream. They're not going to win any awards, but they're perfectly serviceable and don't deserve all the vitriol they've been receiving.

So from the impressions and streams and videos, this might actually be a technically-solid Bethesda release?

Indeed.
Performance seems solid, and I've yet to watch/hear crash report from the streams. Bugs and janky stuff are still there though, but we've only seen only a few so far.

Do you get +HP on level up?

+5 per level.

If the FPS controls are solid now, what's the point of VATs besides cool slo-mo kills?

Targeting an enemy that will pretty much instantly kill you is a must. I've had a few run ins where I absolutely had to disable the boss enemy before going to work on everyone else because they were just tearing me apart.

No, which is the right choice in my opinion. Sometimes I want to take the suit into a city for a fight and then back to a settlement, depleting the core on fast travel would ruin any use I have for it.

VATS is still an integral component of combat. Many skills and perks directly influence it and VATS offers obvious advantages. I would love for a ONLY VATS fallout, as "normal gun play" makes the games too easy.

I've defended almost everything about this game so far, but I've finally found something I don't think I can overlook; the dialogue system on PC.

The 4 options are still laid out in the square, but instead of the face buttons, you choose with the arrow keys. It looks SO bad. The really couldn't have made it a list like FO3 or something that would work better with a mouse?

I'm still hyped as fuck though, don't get me wrong. It's almost painful how much I want to play it.
