Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

Showing off the tutorial really isn't a big deal.
All they did was push out an update for the 3rd Beta which happens to contain a tutorial.
If Capcom really thought it was a big deal, they would have put starting the tutorial behind the servers.

UDON has various artists, you can't just up and say UDON without knowing whose artstyle it actually is :P

It all looks the same to me. But I have a heavy bias so I'm completely ignorant.

But before everyone dies, they impregnate people. Expect Zangief and R. Mika's daughter and Vega's estranged son to join Zangief, R. Mika, and Vega in SFVI.

If I remember correctly this game was barely even funded, so the budget probably isn't huge.

Oh god.

KILL ME

Thank god SF3 is around.

Jobbers.

And if I'd make a guess, it would be Zangief and Birdie. You can do a lot with Vega.

Gief will probably fight Mika and lose. And then Mika and Laura fight.

I'm guessing the fights will go:

Ryu vs Ken (TUT)
Ryu vs Chun - playful match, yo nash is running around here lets deal with him
Chun vs Nash - gotta stop him from killing Guile I guess?
Bison vs Rashid - since the latter's friend is captured under the former?
Mika vs Gief - wrestling match, Gief will probably lose so Laura and Mika can have a rivalry
Mika vs Laura - I don't see the latter winning
Ryu (or Ken) vs Birdie - who else is he gonna pummel?
Cammy vs Vega - constant rivalry
Ryu (or Ken) vs Rashid - Rashid may end up working for Bison at some point to get his friend back
Ken vs Karin - because why not?
Karin vs Mika - showing her who's the boss
Bison vs Nash - Nash will probably die (or pretend, lol)
Bison vs Necaili - the latter will probably be host to Bison's body
Ryu vs Super Necaili

Sim might fight Gief I guess? If Fan is a joke character he could get his ass beat by anyone, really. Maybe Sim AND Gief for some filler fights? I hope capcom let's us pick which side we want to play as, even if the outcome remains the same.

In my opinion, yes. Compared to SFIV, SFxT, and MVC3 aka Capcoms recent vanilla fighters.

DR2K
Doesn't buy fighting games to actually play them

SFIV you might have a case for. But including two crossovers that are team fighters anyway? Nah son.

I believe BlazBlue CT had fewer characters, and a pretty expansive/diverging story, love it or hate it. I don't think the size of the starting roster is confirmation of the scope of the story.

I'm talking about the pitiful number of starting characters. The assumption was they were going the MK route with expanded story. It's just stills.

I don't know what you guys are going on about, but this is awesome.

And, the idea that "stills" should be considered a negative for a series whose very foundation was expressive 2D hand drawn artwork...I don't even know what to say about that.

Not every game has to do it "the MK way", with a cheesy B mini-movie. GGxrd also took another approach, and it was great.

I'm hype to see more.

Alvin Lee
Edwin Huang
Jeffrey Cruz

All Udon (Alvin Lee might not be anymore), all awesome. Doesn't look like any of them. There are lots of good artists at Udon.

Not going to assume I know how the story mode is going to play out because they chose to use some stills for a 5 minute tutorial, either.

Awesome about the old outfits. So good.

Alvin Lee might not be Udon or might not be awesome? Alvin Lee is one of the founding members of Udon, along with Omar Dogan. And he's totally awesome.

The stills are not very pretty, though. If I knew they'd be stills I'd be expecting something at least on the level of BlazBlue or Skullgirls.

SF4 arcade had 16 characters, SFxT reused existing assets, MVC3 was an unbalanced circus like Marvel games are supposed to be.

Dumb argument.

Xrd's approach was literally a movie with no gameplay, except with codec screens in between scenes with actual animation.

It was a mixture of animated scenes, stills, visual novel-esque scenes...they did all sorts of stuff.

The creators thought they were pretty.

Some people think Blazblue and Skullgirls are ugly.

SFIV started off with only 16 characters, 12 old and 4 new just like SFV

SFxT had almost half it roster (minus 4) done in SFIV at that point so only 25 were new

MvC3 did have 30 i think so yeah

still new 16 isn't a bad place and with good DLC plans ahead the number ill grow fast

Might not be with Udon. I'm not sure because I don't see him posting much on social media, but if he is, then awesome. Probably my favorite non-japanese SF artist.

Omar Dogan, also great.

17 in sf4, akuma was hidden/playable

There were 17 playable characters in the initial release of SFIV, so one character difference makes this pitiful?

Then 24 for the vanilla release. Then 10 more characters for the Super Version within a year. 38 for MvC3. (12 characters for UMVC3 within a year)Then 55 for SFxT. (19 being from SFIV mostly)

Pretty damn shit if single player is just some stills and the same old modes.

OK that was pretty amazing. I actually like the storyboard format, gives more options to display forthcoming characters, new stories when the new characters come.

Will download the PS4 update right away :D

Vanilla release came out like 8 months later with 7 more characters, this one is getting 6 by the end of the year within its own release year. So that's 2 more characters in vanilla sf4 console than SFV in its first year.

So 2 more makes it not pitiful?

I should rephrase it then. The stills are pretty bad technically. Say what you will about Skullgirls or BB, but the single player character models are extremely clean, large and very detailed. They're even separate from the environments (and BB goes a step further with several facial assets to change a character's expression). The SFV stills are not anywhere near the same level (well, none of the characters even seem to have a base model for us to see, so yeah). There might be dedicated models for all the characters yet to be revealed, though.

Opinions are opinions and facts are facts. One can think something is technically impressive and ugly or vice versa.

Yeah it reminds me of CRMK's art, particularly his SFA3 art for some reason.

I'm pretty sure it's him.

16 is a great amount of characters for the initial release. That's as much as SF4 had for the arcade release, which was the initial version. Besides, there were a lot of complaints that the roster got too big by USF4 which makes it bad for people who want to jump in 2 or 3 years down the line as it's a lot of matchups to learn. I know Ultradavid is someone that doesn't want the roster to get too big for example.

Okay, I actually might grow to like this. I'm really going to need to see more of the story mode, though. Too bad they didn't go the BB or SG route where they had dedicated character models to work off of. I think this is part of why I found the art kinda bleh.
