He could be the first character out the door. Just unplayable for a little bit. I wonder if each character will add a little bit to the story mode.
Thing is, Fan isn't really common for a Japanese name. The arrogance coming from the voice and the name makes me think of the stereotypical Chinese "Scholar".
A tengu mask would look really cool on an SF character though.

Yeah, but as a joke character, Birdie is pretty tame. He just has some slightly goofy animations and eats donuts during a fight. Fan sounds grating and obnoxious.

Anyway, he doesn't sound bad at all. Like he still sounds better than more than half the cast did in SFIV. Don't know where people are getting joke character from. I wonder what his nose will look like, or if he has a bird mask.
I would be disappointed if Maki made it in instead of Guy. Nothing against her specifically but Guy has been a favorite of mine since Final Fight came out in the arcade and the only game I played with Maki in it was CvS2 in which she never made much of an impression on me.
Yeah that was really awesome. I hope they manage to get him to fit in SF5. Zangief seems to have some interesting changes so maybe they can take Haggar in a different direction and put him in.
I feel the same way about Karin, I wanted her in SF4 so bad from the get go and they ended up never adding her. When it comes down to it, I was never that crazy about 4 but so far I love 5 so I'm glad she's in this instead.
It seems like Decapre's arcade ending connects to whatever Cammy's doing in the story mode.
Hm, that could be kinda interesting actually

Fan's lines are basically the exact kind of shit that Bison and Seth have been saying for years, he just doesn't have a super deep voice.

Urien can be the boss and still not be playable till later. His files are already in anyway.
The Japanese sound clip of Birdie the same line doesn't have anything involving a beak, I think.

That's true. I think they are setting Urien up for round 2's boss though. I guess he and Alex will fight.
Birdie eats during combat, is overweight with a gut, uses a banana peel as a set up, a can as a projectile, and flicks boogers at enemies. He's pretty mid tear on the joke department.
Fan just sounds like shit.
Ah yes urien, i totally forgot about him. I could see him being the boss.
Yeah, I think they might just being playing off his name "Birdie". Just a guess though.

Fei Long's voice was really shitty in 4, but I'm not sure if he was a joke character. Blanka and Zangief are a little tougher to tell...
Yea, it'd be cool if each character added a story mode arc. If so, yea I'd see Urien being the final character released and boss for season 1, setting up season 2.

If Birdie is intended as a joke character, then Capcom failed because his design is amazing in a good way. He is way cooler than that POS Rufus.
Fan's Japanese voice sounds to me like he is a joke character.
Which is something, given that his English VA had good roles in the past.

The new theme is really nice and has reference to the old theme in it. I was looking forward to hearing her theme redone for this, but what we got was still really nice.

Well in the case of fan's voice it is obvious that they are going for a slightly silly character voice and succeeding in the case of akumas english voice it is obvious they are going for a serious character voice but it is so bad that it sounds silly, that is quite a difference.

Okay my mistake here... PC did not get the tutorial update. Apparently when playing "offline" versions of the PC beta it resets your Steam version to 1.4 and downloads and applies the 1.5 update.

You mean episodic story content? I wouldn't mind that but i still can't see them releasing sfv without a boss.
