Still don't understand why everyone is brushing off nacalli. If he was revealed last it would have seemed more obvious he was the boss I guess..

Not really singling him out, I just had some hope he'd be someone I'd consider playing but that voice doesn't belong to someone that'd be in my wheelhouse. Capcom doesn't really make boys that interest me as a whole. I thought I'd main Remy in 3S but for all his looks he comes across as a bit of a jerk so after a few games with him I lost interest. I used to main vega back in SF2 Championship but they've made him more psychotic and emphasised stuff like his claw nails and stuff. It's no biggy though, as long as there's others I'll play I don't mind :3 Lil' abel would've been great though.
Awful is subjective but I'll admit I wouldn't touch a character like Rufus aesthetically. I've always been intrigued by Zangief and Abel's movesets but I can't really bring myself to play those characters (I tried and it just made me hate the game, even though I actually rather liked their movesets.)
It's a possibility but it is odd he was revealed so early on. Mind you, SF4 never revealed their bosses. People just videotaped the arcade mode and that's how Seth, Akuma, and Gouken were discovered.
However, it's unlikely that the boss is someone not found in the Beta files.

I don't think anyone's brushing him off in terms of power/boss-like stature, but rather that he seems more like a force of nature than someone who controls a villainous network. The way he's presented gives the impression he'd pretty much just kill anyone and everyone he came across
I can't speak for anyone else but to me that kind of makes it seem more like he's the main 'tool' of the piece and it's about the evil forces trying to funnel him at their enemies or control him somehow. Yeah this way of thinking is hilarious considering most people play with one or two characters at most. Why is there a need for so many characters? I can understand if there isn't enough diversity, but that doesn't appear to be a problem.

So far I like playing as 12/16 of the roster and the other 4 I just haven't played yet.
I thought I'd be set on maining Bison but Birdie, Vega and Rashid really won me over.

I'm still just on for Bison, and maybe Sim. I would like Vega, but I can't stand stance-swapping mechanics. Necalli's stutter ruined every moment of glee I felt while playing him.
Still interested in Juri, and if Akuma is in, that will cover every character I care about in Street Fighter. We'll see about Fan.
An old male character for the final slot wasn't exactly what I wanted but I'm at least willing to wait and see, and to be honest if he actually is voiced by the VA people seem to think he is, he might turn out to be pretty cool.
Let's at least wait and see how he turns out first.
Oro, Gen, Gouken and Retsu don't really look all that similar, and to be honest there really aren't that many old male characters in SF either, unless several of them are slipping my mind.
The only ones I'm sure I won't play are Chun, Cammy and Ken.
I'll probably end up maining Sim again (yes, even if he's ass) but I intend to use every single other revealed character a fair bit. Wait and see for Fan, of course.

That guy looks a lot like Lau Chan from Virtua Fighter, who is voiced by the same Japanese VA people thin this thread seem to think is voicing Fan.

Gen is still a pretty bad dude. He's terminally ill and wants to go out in a fight to the death against the strongest enemy he can find and when he runs into Akuma he no sells the Shun Goku Satsu.
Yeah it's not on par with Master Asia, but still nothing to sneeze at.

they don't look all that dissimilar to me, but more than anything it's just that they're ALL just ancient martial arts masters.
Using the comparison of the girls, mika's an up and coming wrestler, karin's super rich and made up her own martial art, Sakura is a stalker, Ibuki is a ninja... there's a decent bit of variety in there :3
I know there's some variety to the old boys (Gen used to be an assassin, Oro is a dirty old man, etc) but it feels a bit more constrained by comparison. It'd be interesting if we had an old guy who was insane or something like Necalli or whatever rather than "I'm old and I mastered an art. I either have a pupil/ward or I'm looking for one."
It's kind of moot to me either way as it's not the kind of person I'd play but it's just kind of interesting that they don't vary up the grey-haired folk a bit more.

I respect that. Master Asia just a particular swagger about him that almost makes him feel like a Jojo's character. They're both badasses, but Master Asia would add some serious color to SF. Fan would be amazing with that sort of character.
They never should have got anybody's hopes up to begin with, then. I personally have never cared about the story in these games before, but after Capcom's comments I was hoping they would make an effort here.
I guess they did make an effort, the absolute minimum effort that is. SF is the world's biggest fighting franchise, and they're getting upstaged in this regard by pretty much everyone else.

Pretty much. Had nothing been said at all, I wouldn't be so disappointed.
I didn't say anything about females, if you actually look back in this thread I stated at least a few times that I was hoping Zen/Fan was female and I wanted Karin in the game so badly I wasn't going to buy it if she wasn't.
I don't believe Retsu is actually that old, I believe he was just another one of Gouken's apprentices like Ryu/Ken, certainly not an ancient martial arts master.
Gouken was a massive Hulk with a big bushy beard, Gen was a sickly old man with heavy Chinese aesthetics. Oro looked like a hermit, I guess you could draw some parellels with Gen's look but it's still a stretch. And ultimately there are 3 of these characters in the series.
The little I know about the guy I'm not expecting him to be that old anyway, he's apparently Bison's lacky and comes off like a windbag, so he should be quite a bit different than an old martial arts master, but I haven't heard the audio myself.

The average person could also not have cared about story mode to begin with, which is what I did. They can hype it all they want but you did follow this game up til now right? Really story mode would've been a 1 day/1 week kind of thing, then what would you do? Put hours into the versus mode. Not like anyone's gonna be discussing the story mode come EVO 16.
Just because they hype up story mode doesn't necessarily mean you gotta take them at face value, especially when this is a series where

That's pretty unfair to the casual base who still bring a lot of money in. Why shouldn't they get something with more effort as well. Almost all conversations have been "why are you even caring about SP it's SF". Like my bad for not being a FGC EVO player.

Someone like Gen is exactly what SFV needs. A difficult to play, hard to master, amazingly satisfying to learn and win with character.

They have SOME variety but ultimatly on first blush they're all older asian men who are masters of an old martial art. there's no foreigners and none that do anything new-ish or outlandish like wrestling or eating souls or whatnot but again we don't know what Fan adds or if he's even all that old so I guess we can't judge him against those metrics for now.

I'm fine with them but that's why I never said anything. Most of the time when people are good with something they won't say much as they're already happy. That's why when people are vocal it's usually dissent rather than satisfaction :3

Yeah. MK has that WB money too, which comes at the cost of ridiculous DLC prices.
The females are definitely more diverse, but there are more of them and there are more archetypes for young females than older males.
We'll see how Fan turns out though.
I'm pretty sure Tekken is bigger actually.
