High perception doesn't seem to offer great stuff apart from Penetration, imo.

Better Criticals + Critical Banker seems a way better investment. :p Combine that with Ninja for exploding heads.

Perception is important if you intend to use VATS a lot.

What? Penetrator seems situational at best imo, but sniper seems generally useful for long distance shooting.

The fact that it has a Fallout 4 skin probably drove the price up about 20 bucks, so no. Xbox One Controller. It's not like the precision of a mouse really makes a difference in Fallout.

True. I like the colours though. But I'll resist. I'd love the mouse/mousepad/headset combo though. :(

I already got a Pip Boy Edition and PS4 Gold (socks) Edition on the way, along with the art book and ultimate survival guide. I think I've got enough Fallout stuff coming. :P

I was doing perception for Sniper n penetrator perks. Which is better? Sniper/Penetrator or Better Crits/Crit Banker?
I will go with the latter, that's for sure. The high PER skills are all "nice to have" but nothing essential. Penetrator is the best of the bunch, since no one can ever hide then, but if past games are an indication, that shouldn't happen to often.

Sniper is pretty meh for the stat investment. 25% VATS for headshots? Okay I guess, but nothing to write home about.
Knocking people down seems detrimental often. Holding your breath longer is pretty "eh".
Concentrated Fire is somewhat decent as well, but that depends how often you can shoot in VATS with a sniper rifle. Not that often I'd wager. Seems more like a perk for Assault Rifles (just like Gun Fu).

Critical Banker + Better crits allows you to save those crits for uber damage combined with Ninja and/or snipe them away manually and then use those crits to quickly kill anyone that comes close. It's also pretty ludicrous against tougher opponents. 3 crits to the face? What isn't dead by then. Rifleman + Gun Mods + Lone Wanderer make the damage even higher.

That's my build (posted a few days ago):
BURST-Sniper

Black = Core Skills
Red = Optional Skills I can change out or swap depending what I need.

How does it play?
Extremely high damage peaks with the help of Rifleman (+200% damage and 30% Armor Penetration), Lone Wanderer (+25% Damage), Ninja (+350% damage) and Better Criticals (+250% damage) in combination with Critical Banker, that lets you crit at will.
It allows you to snipe enemies from away with a huge amount of damage, even without crit. Once they close in, you use VATS and make use of your stored crits to deal with them quickly. Shotgun as close range alternative weapon is feasible as well, since those benefit from Rifleman as well.
While defense is not as important, since you will rarely get hit, Lone Wanderer gives 30% Damage Reduction and increases carry weight. Combined with Medic (More efficent and faster stimpaks), Toughness (+Flat Defense) and Livegiver (+HP) you are practically immortal.
With Locksmith, Hacker, Armorer and Gun Nut you can craft everything relevant and will never face a closed door.

Other optional skills I consider:
- 10 CHARISMA for Speech checks.
--> Intimidation for fun
- Action By for increased VATS usage.
- Bloody Mess for even more pew pew damage (tho I dislike the actually gore effect).
- 10 Perception for better VATS targeting
--> Sniper for even better VATS targeting.
--> Penetrator so no one can hide, ever.
--> Concentrated Fire for more headshot damage.
- Aqua Body if water exploring is hugely present.
- Sneak for close quarter usage of Ninja

This is my first purchase from GMG(23% off, yay). I know they will be sending a Steam code at some point, but does anyone know how soon before release we are supposed to get them if you purchased through GMG?

I should be able to pre-load, right?

Thanks.

Pete Hines [head? of PR in Bethesda] said that they plan on giving GMG keys at same time as preload goes live on Steam. GMG also has several times said that they are in constant touch with Bethesda about getting those keys. So expect keys from GMG on same day or next day as preload goes live on Steam.

When preload goes live? We don't know, but I guess 6th or 7th.

Edit: Waiting for that BO3 to go live so that preload of 60GB is over on Steam

Awesome, thank you!

This thread has really made me want to call in sick when this releases. Thanks guys.

Finished work and its now 2.30pm thursday. Have a week off and i pick up a copy on saturday morning. Going Absolutely mental here knowing in 48 hours i should be playing :/

Admittedly you have some good points there, and PER 7 (+1) is quite expensive. The +25% will be good for the AP expensive sniper shots, though. Why would it be detrimental to knock down enemies that you want to abuse from sniper range? Enemies disappearing under cover when they are knocked down?

Damn you got me thinking now. I usually dont bother with Luck in past games but i dont know now D:

This is what I think I will be going with. Does anyone see any major flaw here? I wanted higher INT so I can level a little faster.

If you just must have all or most of dialogue options then you need increase Charisma by few points, but otherwise seems quite balanced with mastery in Int.

MGS? The game where most reviewers were forced into a 4 day boot camp where they wouldn't get enough time to experience the complete shit show that is chapter 2? That mgs? That's the game you're using in this comparison?

They were forced? Did someone put a gun too their head so the 4 day boot camp was completed?

If it was such a problem with Konami rushing review copies we would've heard a story or two from these journalists but instead we got 10/10's.

I'm looking forward too Fallout 4 but I will not trust initial reviews from the major sites.

this thread has me second guessing going 8 points into perception for sniper

i plan on playing a sniper, and the merits of going deeper into luck for the crits make sense to me - but, oof

something about not selecting the sniper perk while playing as a sniper bothers me, lmao

That sniper perk has some weird effects. Or do people use VATS alot when sniping? And the knocking down effect doesnt do it for me either, i rather do as much damage as possible in a single shot. Guess it just depends how bad the control is while aiming down the scope .

Wut? I cant belive i didnt know that. I have played fo3 3 times, and NV twice. Plus my charachters always have high science, so hacking is something i do all the time.

Same. That's crazy. I put hundreds of hours into these games and i'm just finding out this now.

The way i do it i choose anything until my last choice, load and do it again until i get it right.

So many people planning INT builds. What's the reason for this?

Higher INT -> more levels -> more perks. It's just the same as earlier games where more intelligence meant more skill points. And while there's no level cap as such, you won't get anywhere near maxing out everything during normal gameplay run.

Ok im hearing rumors of day one updates or large downloads for physical buyer

To the tune of 30GB

Sounds like horseshit for day one

Plus we have preload for digital. Whats the scoop

Day 1 patch is around 500-600MB, I think. If you go PC Physical then prepare for ~20+ GB download on 10th.

At range, a knockdown makes the target drop and makes it harder to shoot. It's useful if they are close, tho. Then again, it's still just an undefined chance.

Ditto. Per is just a bit weak this time around, in a game where VATS is mostly used when in a pinch.

Sniper shoukd have been way lower in the tree, for what little it provides.

Do we know just how many bobbleheads are in the game yet? Is there confirmation that there's only 1 for each S.P.E.C.I.A.L like in Fallout 3?

I wonder when the Steam pre-load will be available. Really getting hyped now, though not spoiling myself much on the mechanical and perk stuff that's leaked.
