Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

look at this matchmade group I was against, I spy an onxy and a diamond against 3 plats and a gold.

Golds don't contain commons so that's partially why. That's a decent plan, though. Golds are fun as hell to open.
They don't? I gave up after my 5th gold pack cuz I didn't get anything good from them. What's the rarity pool that they pull from? Uncommon-legendary mythic?

7.6 KDA but only 4 wins in Shotty Snipes so placed Platinum. Must take wins into account quite highly. Ty teammates for your -12 each game xD

Beside seeing the first big next gen game I have to assume that OT is so large because destiny doesn't have matchmaking for very important things like firefights and raids so the OT is the perfect place to organize those things

Plus, Destiny's constantly getting updates and changes and daily/weekly/random events. Thread spikes when the Black Spindle or No Time to Explain daily shows up.

Yep. Using OTs to gauge popularity of a game even on GAF is generally a poor idea.

I personally wasn't using OT numbers to judge popularity, but I do think it's interesting to see how discussion of different games plays out. I think it's less about overall popularity than core engagement. Games that don't sell a lot can still have a big core engagement with a lot of discussion.

One reason I bring it up here is because people have been really worried about core engagement with Halo 5 (partly after the hit in player numbers that came about with Halo 4) - and I think it's encouraging to see as much discussion as we're seeing for Halo 5 (much of it positive, to boot). I think core engagement will be pretty good with Halo 5.

But I don't think it correlates with overall sales/popularity on the grand scale.

Just FYI, I was aiming for a smaller OT for Halo 5, smaller and more to the point. I could have easily made the OT significantly larger and with more detailed breakdowns and descriptions, but I think a smaller OT is much more appreciated and wanted these days.

As we go on to OT2 and beyond, I will be cutting things down even more and in future including more community content.

At this point I think Halo 5's staying power is solely a function of three things: new maps and game types coming sooner rather than later, a robust file-sharing and discovery solution once Forge comes out so that Forge can actually live up to its promise, and a steady stream of more cosmetic or gameplay REQs to keep acquiring.

Like I said, the player mentality being different is entirely on you, the player. I completely understand where you guys are coming from, believe me. I'm not some wicked player. In fact, I probably played Warzone first to get good at the game before jumping into Arena. But that added pressure is what we should all want for Arena. It's what builds the competitive mentality even further, it's what will help catapult Halo beyond the Battlefront, CoD, Destiny games as the premier eSports and competitve shooter on consoles. The line in the sand has be to drawn now. Warzone is our casual/social mode, Arena is ranked and will stay ranked.

I think because it's still second week of launch, it's taking time to get used to it. But within the month, most will come to understand this is the way it is. Either you'll continue with it, because you don't want to miss out playing team snipers, team doubles, grifball or you'll leave Halo behind and move to another shooter.

It's not a bad thing if you want to screw around, or that you got silver and not diamond.

Edit: Maybe I'll be wrong and 343 would rather bring social back. I just think having social variants of the ranked arena playlists would just kill the investment they've done.

I don't agree with any of this. I really miss the social playlists, and btb. I played one game of Warzone and won't play another. I love playing Arena, but I don't always want to play on Intensity level 9 or above and I become consumed with rage when my rando (or non rando, as it may be from time to time) teammates can't carry their weight. I play Arena to win, I play social to play.

This game really should have campaign matchmaking (legendary difficulty), campaign scoring, and REQ point accrual when replaying campaign missions.

Seems odd not to have those things considering the rest of the package.

I do understand that the aim assist is greatly reduced in 5, and I like that! There's this immediacy I feel with the aiming in MCC that just isn't there in 5, though. I have adapted for the most part, but it really does noticeably worse to me, or at the very least makes me feel pretty inconsistent. The other day I switched from a game of H3 Swat to H5 Swat and H5 made it feel like there was like a half second delay before my aim would actually start moving. I'm hoping that they at least tweak it in some way. I have seen a lot of people comment on it.

Does anyone else miss the projectile physics from 3? I always felt like that added an extra layer of depth to the shooting mechanics, especially in something like SWAT. I think the new movement mechanics could have made having to lead your shots a bit more interesting now that one can boost strafe in any direction at a moment's notice.

Heck no. H3 br is the worst out of all the games. Keep that crap out of here.

Couldn't agree with you more. Being they could have done nightly challenges ala Destiny, and used it to help fuel the req pack craze. Missed opportunity to add longevity.

Being able to use the weapons that are unlocked by REQ packs in campaign would be cool too. We coule choose our loadout at the start of a mission and there could be "tactical box" or whatever through the levels to restock on ammo or choose other weapons. It would add a lot to the replayability of the campaign.

This ranking system is so bad lmao I purposely did bad in my placement matches for Shorty snipes and got a -1.8 kDa and still got placed in Diamond. Compared to my swat rank where I had a 10.1 kDa and also got placed in Diamond. It's so bad.

Aren't these relative to the playlist population and skill levels? I.e it is not related to an absolute skill level, how could it be? Let alone being dependent on wins, not KDA.

My matches have, for the most part, been pretty competitive. Some stompings either way, but mostly tight. Broken? Nope.

Shotty snipers give me an incredible amount of anxiety.

Having no radar and knowing you can die any second puts me on edge

I'd prefer it just Team Snipers. Thefact every map has a tonne of close range corners just makes it too easy to sprint around with a shotgun.

Hahahaha. I don't think I've played a single Destiny game with a gaffer. They are balls deep in that PS4.

It is a very PS4 dominated part of GAF but I've been on X1, am I not good enough? :'( Not played since hard mode came out though. Probs won't till next DLC haha.

I was really surprised there is no campaign scoring, after my first play through I always have turned it on. Also, a daily campaign mission for REQ would have been amazing... I really enjoyed a lot of that stuff in reach, and now we have none of it.

I guess they really only want me to do 3 playthroughs, coop heroic, legendary, and Intel.

Oh yeah, challenges like in Reach would have been perfect for Halo 5 and its REQ system. I never really thought about it, but this makes too much sense now.

Yep, daily challenges should have been a no brainer. Keep it to warzone though since daily tasks can alter people's play style.

A warzone for purely PvE should have been created as well. That would have been fantastic.

I'm just too busy thinking about Fallout 4 to focus on playing Halo, so I called it quits after a level. :lol

I feel the same way. I keep mindlessly grinding RP in the hopes of getting Noble armor out of Silver packs but at the end of the day I'm just waiting for Fallout 4 to whisk me away from Halo until more content (BTB will be great) is added.

I've found Destiny to be pretty close to evenly split in real life. At least in the US where it's not uncommon to see Destiny XB1 outsell (or come close to sales parity) with Destiny PS4.

I think it's a Bungie thing (a lot of Bungie fans went to XB1 for Halo, but also got Destiny). Could be wrong, though.

The Warzone AI is actually pretty punishing, too. I expected early on that nothing would stop people from just immediately sprinting to the contested bases, but it takes effort to clear out the AIs, especially the Prometheans. You can't do it solo.

If they had a pve warzone, I might have been able to get my wife to stop playing destiny once in a while.

I wonder if daily/weekly challenges is something they can add in the future?

DGAF is PS4 heavy because the PS4 was cheaper than the XBO when Destiny came out (making it attractive for "Bungie fans to switch"), and Destiny had an exclusive alpha on Playstation a month before Xbox could play it. That month is when the community was established

At least I still have the option of playing H3 when I miss that sort of thing, I guess. I do think that this game has excellent hit reg and the hitscan certainly helps to highlight that.

FWIW the projectile travel in H3 could feel a little bit silly at times. Those are some pretty slow bullets, haha.

Nothing better than bullet sponging americans and complete moronic teams in warzone, best of both fucking worlds.

They really beed to force people into a tutorial or go for skill matching cause playing 1vs12 for 20 minutes is a waste of time.

Keep your filthy H3 BR out of here.

Yep. I think they could have done a Warzone Assault mode with AI where you try to hold them back from the two bases and the core as the enemy strength slowly increases. Grunts, jackals, elites, then hunters, vehicles, etc. I think it could have been a ton of fun.

It is really, really hard to jump between Halo 5 and Black Ops 3 multiplayer.

I kinda wish I could move the map designers from Call of Duty into Halo 5 and make one super-game instead.

I thought it had always felt great too. But when playing H2 or H4 then H3 back to back something felt way off for me.

Those invisible walls though?

True, but it's a relatively small blemish on some pretty masterful maps, IMO.

But the total multiplayer experience is still much better in Halo 5, despite that, and I think that's a testament to the amazing gameplay. I'll keep playing both for the foreseeable future :)
