SF4's big marketing push didn't start until 2 or 3 months before (console) release. People were still posting the Chun Li pregnancy gif and ken's nasty ass hair, etc. No one was paying attention to any of the arcade game footage and a lot of people on GAF really didn't care much. Then they dropped some big fancy hype trailers and the release date, yada yada.

This beta adds a lot of cool quality of life improvements. I love that there's a PSN button next to the opponents you fight. I assume it will be the same for PC players. It was weird that last beta was supposed to test cross play... but you couldn't actually tell if you were playing with PS4 players and vice versa lol.

Still no way to see ping yet as far as I can tell. Hopefully they add that.
 
watching the Giant Bomb crew play the tutorial on their Extra Life stream... just realized something pretty wrong- why is Gouken training Ken and Ryu in New Zealand? I thought they trained in Japan.... c'mon Capcom, just lazy.

Just asking? Do you think they are traveling around the world together or what? If not then that was pretty insightful of them to use New Zealand-inspired stage.

Story wise sure they can come up with a reason why they're in New Zealand and not Japan- but it makes me worry the entire story mode is going to take place in the 10 or so stages they've made for the game.

I thought that stage was 'inspired by New Zealand'. I don't recall it ever being confirmed to be actually set in N.Zealand. In fact, didn't say someone from Capcom say that it was a place we've seen before or something like that?
 
The stage is a remake of the Venezuela stage from Alpha 2 but it also inspired by New Zealand. In the game data the stage is listed as NZ.

Yeah this is what I thought. I forgot about it being a remake of the Alpha 2 stage but I was sure I remembered it being only inspired by NZ.
 
Honestly super hyped to see Fan now.

I made it my duty to main Bison and his henchmen in this game (I love Vega in this game and Balrog has always been one of my favourites) and since Fan is the first new actual Bison lackey in years I'm gonna learn him no matter what he actually ends up like god dammit. (unless he's a complicated stance character then I'm out)
 
They definitely need more stages. I thought with them having such a small roster. They could have easily included 16 character specific stages.

So far we have
China - Chunli
London - Cammy, Birdie
New York - Ken
Waterfall - Charlie
India - Dhalsim
Brazil - Laura
Japan - Ryu, Karin
Russia - Zangief

Necalli, Bison, R. Mika, Rashid, Zen, Vega don't have suitable stages.

It would be nice if we got
Secret HQ or the grass stage - Bison
Illuminati temple - Necalli (Urien when he is DLC)
Outdoor wrestling ring - R. Mika
Desert with tall building in the background - Rashid
Spain with a cage Fight club - Vega
Zen - no idea perhaps he can share Bison stage if he is a bodyguard to Bison

I am really hoping we get the wrestling ring from R.Mika's character art. That would be an incredible stage to fight on.

It should be in the middle of the desert. With a cityscape background right at the background of the desert. They can have background characters such as a guy with his pet tiger. A rich guy throwing his arab money. And a flashy car parked up in the desert.

I'm hoping that they go the Killer Instinct route. Every time we got a new character we also go a new stage.

Hopefully it's what the storymode cutscenes will actually look like. I was actually a fan of the tutorial and what they did but I can't deny that this method is way better.

I think it mixture of the two would be great. MK style cutscenes for the important story bits and the tutorial style for quick pre battle conversations like the ones in the beta files.

Yeah, agreed. Having both would be great IMO.

Another way of having both could be to have the present-day parts of the story done in the MK-style type cutscenes and the flashbacks done in the tutroial hand-drawn style. I know some people hate the tutorial (some weirdly more than others) but I think having a distinction between present-day sections and flashback sections would be great.

While I don't believe they need to have 1 stage per character, I do believe they should have a lot of them. Stages still are far easier and cheaper to make than any one character would be.

The fact we could buy Kanzuki Estate in the second beta with fight money makes it pretty likley we're going to get DLC stages, though I agree we don't need one for each character.

Do people actually want CG cutscenes? I can see people not liking the art as it is now, but do you guys think we would get something better from a CG cutscene? I have a hard time imagining it being more than descent with their budget and experience.

The worst part about fighting game tutorials is that they assume that the people who choose play it already know something. If it doesn't start at movement and blocking, or talk about things like cross-ups, overheads, and how to do motions, it's already failed its purpose.
