Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

This is an awesome response.

However, the fan trolling/bickering equals engagement, which MS PR sees as a good thing. =(

Kind of like how getting a dislike on YouTube means people are engaging with your content.

I doubt that. Let's not pretend that the shit doesn't hit the fan these days over the smallest thing as well. Frank called it out in another thread where he said he was too old for this when people assume and just resort to insults and anger without thinking things through, from zero to straight freak out. You think any dev wants their fanbase to be like that? I did the same for a while until I remembered this is just our hobby.

I mean we've known from the beta that Forge was going to be used extensively in the game. And BTB not being in at launch meant that it would take the backburner in terms of development as compared to Warzone and Arena. How many devs do you know that actually engage the community in the way 343 does? Honest question. You have the studio head for the game visiting forums and chatting with fans, the franchise director, you have multi-player leads chum up with pros etc. Other studios, they just have their community guys handle it, or maybe engage on Twitter or tell you to only go to their private site.

I mean if you think 343 has taken the development of this game lightly, or that they aren't putting in the effort, just look at the Sprints. Look how much time, over 3 years was spent on every little detail. Whether it's designing some small piece of the map to have the perfect grenade bounce in MP, or spending hours with a variety of tools and materials to get the sound of a Forerunner ship right, spending hours with the actors in a sound stage where they record lines and capture cinematic over and over for a 15 second clip that most gamers won't even remember 20 seconds after it ends in the game.

I don't know, maybe I'm turning into a slurper myself, but I think they've done a million things right with the game but one small negative and it all goes to shit.

It's really not hard to say that future BTB maps would have forge and other maps created. Launching BTB with 4 Forge maps, what did 343 expect them to think? I mean are they really surprised by the reaction? This shit is normal in my opinion.

Not only are they forged maps they are inspired by bad maps (Valhalla Longbow) Headlong is the only decent map of the bunch, though hopefully these spirtual successors will be better. Longbow had awful sight lines, Valhalla had the opposite problem where there was too much cross mapping. Standoff was just kind of mediocre, something similar could work in Halo 5.
I'd say headlong is the bad map but wish there was an avalanche.

343 is obviously lost when it comes to halo map design. They just don't get it or they just want to go against what long term fans want. I gave up on them when I saw the first video of Halo 5. Not much has changed. They have never been good. Just really disappoints me that Bungie left. Wish they could have easily worked on destiny and took their time on another halo.. Or at least just the mp portion.

If it was one small negative then that would be cool. So far we have in the map count of 21 that everyone was happy for 5 Breakout Maps, 2 Remakes, 2 Forge Maps, and 3 smaller versions of Warzone maps. That sucks dude, no matter how you slice it or try to defend it.

Everyone that is upset here isn't upset for the sake of it, they love the game and want it to succeed. If you can't put out a good collection of maps from the get go then users are bound to move onto other things. Coming out with 4 BTB maps that are all Forge does not exactly inspire confidence. And also the fact that the 2 of the arena maps that they talked about that are coming out in the future are also remakes.

The campaign has so many great locales to choose from, Forge just looks like I am playing in a toy land.

Sure but looking I error their maps it's easily the worst in the series, up there with halo 4.

Plaza is just a cluttered mess.
Eden is bad.
Empire is eden...
Regret is huge walled and too many tiers.
Rig is decent
Fathom is good but would be better with different art assets
Truth is decent but still a bit spread out. Too dark and across the map brings in a lot of fog.
Coliseum is just ok too, quite spread out, a bit too spread out.

Now we have btb forge maps. Not sure how much longer I can play this before I'm really burnt out on all the bad choices.

As others were saying we just care about halo and want it to be good. I just feel very let down. Like the day your birthday comes and you get food poisoning.

As a man to a man, 343 after more than 5 years with of Halo experience and some of you much longer.. What is going on. Is Microsoft forcing these ideas? Please just give us a hint why this game is.continously going on the wrong direction?

And. No, not every pro player appreciated objective and other great halo modes. I'm a fan of most the playlist though.

Starting to feel we can barley have team.doubles. Won't work too well on coliseum. And I for sure don't want to play eden or empire. So I will only enjoy fathom, rig and a bit of truth in doubles. Not sure what to say that hasn't already been said

Why was anyone expecting real maps after that Sprint episode? lol

Headlong looks ok...I guess?? :p

Oddly enough, you're saying that in defense of the situation, when it can easily be interpreted as a slight against 343 lol

Yeah it seems pretty clear that forge is gonna be a major source of maps, at least for the time being. Hopefully there's more variety going forward, though. Even with the advancements to forge, grey blocks only go so far.

Valhalla was a great map, but it can really only exist in Halo 3 where the BR's inconsistency prevented cross-map domination. Hitscan BRs and DMRs (Ragnarock) generally ruined it, as did the effectiveness of small arms versus vehicles—far safer to camp your side with Mantises.

Presumably the "inspired by" Forge map is made with the reality of the sandbox in mind :)

Good update. BTB next week, and the maps look like they'll play really well. Didn't really notice the Mark V in the helmet shapes of upcoming REQ'S though...

That clip at the bottom, that's probably why they allow for people to steal boss kills. Guy waited like 2 minutes with a spartan laser to take down Warden at the end.

I'm mostly amazed by how the entire time runs by him and never bothers to check a corner.

Had probably the best game of Warzone this evening with Wesley and his crew. We fumbled capturing the central location on Stormbreak, the enemy killed the 150pt Banshee, and we were down 250 points to go. But we managed to flank them, capture the enemy armory, and then destroy their tank at the Warden and capture the points. Won by less than 10 points by the end, it was white-knuckle to the finish.

Agreed. Halo 3's sandbox worked well with its BTB maps IMO, but all of them would instantly be terrible in any other game aside from Halo CE because of hitscan weapons.

I heard that Headlong plays better in Halo 5 than it did in Halo 2 though with the new movement options.

I've always said if you throw CE's gameplay onto some of the later maps, they'd probably play better than they did in their respective game. For example, Epitaph might've been sweet in CE, but it's a snoozefest in H3 because of how long it takes to kill people. Granted, some minor adjustments might have to be made, but maybe not. Mixing Guardian with 2v2 CE might be a thing of beauty as is.

I'm not defending anything, just saying the writing was on the wall. Manage expectations and all that when you clearly can read between the lines. Once you realized they counted Assault variants and Forge maps in the initial launch count, that shoulda told you something.

Aside from Longbow, I feel like those are pretty solid map choices. Can't really tell if the Forge look will bring them down til we play on it/get more pics.

The forge "spaces" were developed to be BTB spaces that could do double duty as blank Forge palettes. You can kinda see it just by looking out at them from the Arena forge variants but my quote was actually talking about why warzone maps couldn't just double as BTB maps as is.

I think it will click properly when you play them this month.

Do these Forge variants count towards the DLC count, or are they independent of that?

I would guess independent, but the 21 shipping maps including Forge variants has me wary.

Definitely. In fact, they should just scrap any Halo 6 plans and start working on Combat Evolved 2.

I would totally love that.

I experienced this too. I don't think its on the server end. More of our end. Our of my 200+ games, I would say only happened couple of times. Very forgivable.

oh it's not just that. I'm just waiting for the other clips to upload. The entire game was a shitshow of suspended animation for 75% of it. No one could do anything
