Pre-loading on Steam now, hype!
Staying away from other sites and spoiler threads, going in blind with this only saw one trailer at E3 I think. Here's hoping I'll enjoy this ride.

That doesn't spoil anything about the movie, though?

The equivalent spoiler for Fallout 3 would be "Your dad dies trying to clean up the wasteland, you have to sacrifice yourself and finish his work"

Warning though: Dude/gal who is playing are absolutely atrocious. It's frustrating watching the person play. No form for control, nothing that resembles interest in the world or anything.

Yeah, I watched some of it - whoever is playing needs to not play games.

I dunno I'm looking at the footage from jimmyfenix's link, and the graphics look OK to me. The textures on the people's faces looks much improved too!!

Don't think so. I'm still holding off on my order as well, but may just go Xbox One as that is likely to be the better version if there is a difference.

I bet the XB1 version somehow magically ends up looking better. This is Bethesda here.

PS4 version will no advantages.

Thoughts from a min/maxer on reddit. Biggest mistakes/regrets so far after playing 30 hours. It's non spoilerish and its about charisma.

Damnit. Both this and that most recent PS4 footage is making me consider using companions. :/ I was set on going lone wolf but now I'm not sure.

Cheers mate, glad to see that particular stat have a big impact, I was afraid they'd skimp on it's usefulness.

Glad to see companions have a big effect as well, I was thinking of picking the lone wanderer perk (30% + dmg and 25% - dmg taken at max rank) but in light of what you said...would this be a bad idea? It seems that companions are not only preferable, but you are hooked up with a few for the sake of quests as well yes?

I have no idea what's main quest and what's side quest. There is no difference in the quest menu. Am I missing something?

The game is damn great btw. Witcher GotY is in danger.

What's wrong with NMM? It's pretty easy to install mods with.

In my experience if you don't keep an eye on which mods you have installed it can completely mess up your game forcing a reinstall. The other one doesn't overwrite anything and is self contained so its easier to turn separate mods on and off.

5 hours into the game (PS4): it's great!!!
IMO better than Witcher 3, because I prefer full customization in RPGs.
Gunplay is good, Grafix range from nice to underwhelming.
The gameplay is the instant-crack Bethesda formula.

Edit: Tried searching the forum to see if has been posted since i saw that it's the same user that Admiral Woofington posted about before.

This is just a quick, non-spoilerish post to toss out my personal thought on my biggest mistake playing FO4 so far.
It's been plaguing me and I regret a lot because I'm an elitist asshole min/maxer and I'm just sharing this experience because it may help you in planning out an initial build better than me.
THE CHARISMA TREE IS ACTUALLY INSANE.
Initially, I didn't have much in Charisma because I just shrugged and thought the following -
"Skills for my dog? Meh, whatever, I'll probably use humans and not care much about the dog."
"Shops in my settlements? Meh, whatever, why do I need more shops? I can find stuff to buy at other places."
"Turn enemies passive and potentially protect me etc? Meh, whatever, if you're good you shouldn't need the help." (oh how little did I know... Survival mode is laughing at me atm)
A) The dog is ridiculously powerful. I have had plenty of moments of jaw-dropping and saying, holy shit my dog is actually a terminator sent back in time to fuck up post-apocalyptic bandits for me. And when you skill him up, he can get nutty. Watching Dogmeat single-handedly skullfuck an enemy while you just sit and watch smiling is one of the most rewarding elements of this game, IMHO
B) The shops aren't "just" shops, they generate revenue for you depending on how big your settlements are and once you're running a steady network of settlements and pulling survivors in constantly, you make bank on this. Think Assassin's Creed style passive income, with the initial set-up cost paying for itself ten times over eventually. This feels a lot like that, it may be one of the highest reward-per-point-spent skills in the game.
C) I cannot even begin to tell you how pointing a gun to shoot at something, only to have it suddenly stop rushing you, and then actually turn around and attack his friends instead can just instantly shift the course of a fight. It is a-b-s-u-r-d when it goes off at the perfect times.
Trust me, don't ignore the Charisma tree. Don't make my same mistake. Many levels of leveling it up later in the game in regret did not make me happy, every level up is a huge deal.
I'll write up some other tips when I get a chance post-BlizzCon because I feel like there are a lot of things I'd do differently starting from scratch knowing what I know now, but for now this is my big one.
PS. Once we have maps and guides on where to find the Charisma Bobbleheads, this obviously won't be as big of a deal. Right now, I'm playing without them (and probably would anyway, ...probably... ...maybe) so I don't have that luxury. I suppose you could plan for +2-3 Charisma once those are available. Either way, plan for +1 Perception right away because the first Bobble you find is in a very, very obvious spot very early in the game, and it's a +PER Bobble.

Well, I ALWAYS play a high charisma character in RPGs, but was planning on skipping CHA stuff thanks to the early impressions. You've made me change my mind. Back to the build planning.

I'd like to know how low the chance to pacify an enemy is, though.

Yeah the UI is very ugly. I don't like it at all. At least you can change to any color you want.

Would you want that to change though?

I mean, it's a very specific case of "ugly". Almost by design. It weirds me out seeing people have it blue or red, has to be green for me. It looks awful but I'd have been gutted if they changed it.

PC pip boy hasn't shipped from Amazon. Wtf

My PS4 version hasn't either. Originally said it was expected to ship yesterday but now its changed to "shipping soon".

The last time I used Amazon for a CE that had release day delivery was for Batman: Arkham Knight and that didn't ship until Sunday so not worried...for now.

For me the main issue in FO3, and NV, was that there was so little information available with out excessive scrolling.

And Green for life :)

It's so easy to pick stuff apart when it's a small gif, a photo whatever. A game is all about the sum of its parts. Are the characters memorable ? Is the story good? Are the graphics up to scratch? Game play good? Etc etc.

I'm not knocking anyone who does pick pieces into everything but I can't see how you can sit down and play a game for what it is. I often think how does a film critic actually sit down and enjoy a film, without internally analysing the film they are watching.

I personally cannot wait to play this game and make my own decisions after I've played. Bethesda don't automatically get a pass but they have made some monumental games that have sold millions.

Roll on next week :-)

I don't know why but my local Media Markt (Germany) already had Fallout 4 on the shelf :o
It promised to be 100% uncut and in English (voice+text) so I canceled my amazon.co.uk preorder and bought it.
Day1 patch for PS4 is already out as well.

Sucks that I'm gone for a week tomorrow :P
