I still wouldn't mind Idris being Bond.

But hes too fucking street.

Seriously though, I have no idea who EON will choose - but they have not made a mistep yet, even Lazenby had some great aspects.

It's gonna be someone white though. It will be.

Apparently not. Taken from the other thread.

James Bond film producer Michael G. Wilson says he expects Daniel Craig will return for a fifth outing as the iconic 007.

"I think we've got Daniel Craig," Wilson tells The Hollywood Reporter in an interview, waving aside the actor's recent protestations that he was through with the role. Wilson makes a comparison to director Sam Mendes, who said he was done with Bond after 2012's Skyfall, only to return for Spectre. "[Mendes] said they were never going to make the picture again, and he told the press that." Asked if Craig was legally bound to do another Bond film, however, Wilson acknowledges: "We don't have a contract."

Yeah that was interesting. It seemed like when Craig re-upped his contract after Skyfall, everyone believed it was for a fourth and fifth films, but I guess he was only committed to a fourth with an option for a fifth.

I'm definitely hoping the next film doesn't try to add a personal stake by tying it in again with any of the past films. Just make it another assignment for Bond. Creating a personal stake during that can work fine, but let it stand on it's own without having to call back to Craig's previous encounters.

Thomsa Newman was well enough for Skyfall, but I agree it's time for him to go. It's kinda soured on me that quite a few Skyfall tracks were reused in Spectre. No excuses for that shit.

True. I loved his Work in skyfall, and was hyped to see his work here, and left dissapointed. I only remember like two tracks from Spectre, the re use of skyfall music didnt fit Well.

I can't see it being some one like Hardy or Cavill, wouldn't mind Hardy being a bad guy though.

hardy as a villain in a more stripped down bond movie would be great. i want paul haggis back on these scripts though. he's the common variable in the craig movies I want.

Just get rid of purvis and wade

I mean holy shit why weren't they killed after die another day?!

Also, Thomas Newman...get Arnold back please. Newman hates the James Bond theme by his own admission...yeah, get out.

Just re-watched the all the Craig Bond movies in preparation for this. Is Mr. White in Spectre and does anyone remember him from Casino Royal and QoS? He is the guy Bond shoots in the leg at the very end of CR and you think he kills him but he shows up in QoS as one of Quantum's members. When Bond crashes there meeting at the Opera, he is the only member to not stand up and walk out.

Yes he's in this.

First half is solid.

Second half is absolutely terrible.

Not a single cast member in this movie looked like they had any actual interest in being in it. Bland, perfunctory performances all around, including Craig.

solo, what's your dream director for a Bond movie?

I honestly don't have one. Most of the best Bond films haven't come from any marquee name directors. Martin Campbell's only other claim to fame outside of Bond is his great Zorro reimagining (the first one, anyways).

So I dont necessarily have a list of directors I want to do one, but there are lots of directors I don't want to see do one.

Keep in mind too that unless EON ever changes their ways, an American will never direct Bond.

This movie doesn't work, I'm afraid.

Now, I could critique any number of plot points (like
why Blofeld's henchman is still trying to kill Bond even though he's just heading right to Blofeld's residence, which is apparently where Blofeld wants him; or why M needed Bond to kill that guy and what exactly she knew about this whole situation
), but the truth is, most movie plots, particularly in spy thrillers, can be picked apart. People said, correctly, that if you think much about it, the villain's actions in Skyfall (or The Dark Knight, from which the former borrows heavily) are absurd. But the reason that I thought Skyfall was a great Bond movie and this isn't is all in the character. To me, the improbability of the villain's plan isn't a big deal, so long as the character dynamics compel, which in that movie they did; Silva was a strong villain, and the movie worked, because I bought his vendetta against M, and the way that this affected M and Bond. Here they bring back
Blofeld
in a way that feels like the first draft of a script meant to create a closer link between Bond and
Blofeld
-- but like I said, it's a first draft, because there's just no there there. It doesn't add anything noteworthy to
Blofeld
's character, or Bond's, and nor does the attempt to make this feel like the culmination of the previous Craig movies feel natural.

I'm a big fan of Lea Seydoux, and she has some very good moments here (and, of course, looks amazing), but there's some very ropey plotting around this character, like her suddenly running off just before the climax (for a character reason that really has not been built up at all), solely so that she can be captured and used as a hostage in the final minutes. More generally, I'm not how this character fits into the franchise. Most Bond movies end with him heading off for some R&R with the main romantic interest, of course, but this movie drops the "love" bomb and his choosing to run off with her instead of killing
Blofeld
(another dilemma that really doesn't fly; Bond isn't the Punisher, and if we're meant to think he's being driven to the edge by this guy, I really didn't feel it) is played like some sort of turning point for the character. I don't object to that in principle, mind you, but is that really going to be followed up on?

My only wish for a future Bond, aside from finding that CR/QoS tone again, is for Daniel Craig to fulfill the wish I always had for Connery and return as a villain in like 15 years.

It's possible, given that Brocolli and Wilson love Craig, as opposed to Connery who carried a grudge forever against Brcolli's father and his producing partner.

They forgave each other before he died though

Or if you're gonna give me fanservice, give me fanservice like we cut to the Spectre meeting and the agents on both sides of Blofeld are all the previous Bond actors. Now that would be a wink wink nudge nudge I could get behind rather than blatant callbacks to better movies.

What did you guys think of Lea Seydoux?

She was arguably the best part of the movie, BUT her proclamation of love to Bond was lol-worthy and the convoluted writing to put her in danger in the final act was atrocious.

Both of those things were out of her control though. She did great with what she had. I'd put her only behind Vesper and Camille for Craig's Bond women.

I'm pulling for Brosnan as a Bond villain, myself.

Yeah I really enjoyed her besides those things you listed, fully agree.

That would be nice too but I think he has sour grapes too after being fired. It's different with Craig too - he's Wilson and Broccoli's baby, the first Bond that they chose. I just feel like the relationship with those 2 and Craig is probably the strongest relationship between the producers and any of the previous Bond actors.

Connery hated the producers and felt he was underpaid. Lazenby got bad advice and spurned the producers by quitting. Moore didn't leave on bad terms, but he regularly threatened to quit (even being replaced by James Brolin) between films for more money. Dalton got saddled with the WGA strike and got frustrated and quit. Brosnan was fired.

I just feel like Craig's situation is the best of all of them and that's why I could see him returning.

I'd like to see the UK-Gaffers who showered this with love a few weeks ago respond to the avalanche of hate.

What did you think of Bond's love scene with Belluci?

I'd put her only behind Vesper and Camille for Craig's Bond women.

Vesper is far more memorable whereas her highlight was wearing that dress.

So they liked it? GAF is terrible for movie reviews sometimes. I'm so hyped for a movie only to read the OT thread and it deflates.

I'm gonna see it anyway.

Saw it yesterday and liked it, as have most of the people who've seen it, I guess, but yeah, overall it's a lesser quality than Skyfall, although it does have it's moments, moments that I actually liked more than Skyfall.

But some of the action scenes went unnecessarily long and too many sidetracks in the story. Reminded me a lot of MI:5 too because of this. Too many unnecessary references to other bond movies, Waltz was underutilized (too much Dave Bautista), and so too were the rest of the MI6 team very underutilized. I loved that at the end we were seeing a type of "Bond-gang" take form, but we got just too little of it.

Overall, 7.8/10. I really wish now that Craig gets at least one more outing as Bond, but with a simpler and less "personal" mission, as has been already suggested by many here.

I don't think it deserves much hate at all. It's a decent Bond movie with a few great bits, like the opening and the train fight. It doesn't have as many highs as Skyfall but I still enjoyed it.

my opinion pretty much. although, the train fight i couldn't stop thinking about how it was just like from russia with love.

As a UK Gaffer, I find the negative reactions baffling.

I'd be fascinated to learn why there seems to be such a huge divide between the UK and the US regarding how the film has been received. I don't even really like Bond that much and I adored it. Totally agree with all the five star reviews.

See I haven't rated anything 5 out of 5 ever.

The film is another tribute to the character of James Bond, just like Skyfall. I can imagine that people from the UK are more invested in James Bond as a concept than US audiences are, so generally have more positive opinions; speaking as someone from the UK I was surprised by just how packed the cinemas were during the release weekend for showings of SPECTRE. It's somewhat of an event here, and I think that all contributes to the reception of a film.

You've never walked away from a movie completely and utterly satisfied? Because that's what a "5 Star" rating represents to me.

I just never think anything is perfect, 5 stars to me means a film is or has been flawless. Then you can have films that come out at a later date that are far better.

I don't know if 5 stars ever really means flawless. That's an impossible accolade.

I'd say 'I can't see how it could be done better' would be what 5 stars is.

I still think it is a very enjoyable movie with beautiful locations and some good performances by Daniel Craig, Lea Seydoux and Dave Bautista. I also realize that the film have more flaws than I first thought.

Things I did like, to put a positive spin on it, are
the pre-credits intro in Mexico. I liked when Monica walked through the house to the pool and we come to the sad realization that she have accepted dead by assassins. I like the Spectre meeting in Rome were Oberhauser looms in the shadows. I absolutely loved the fight against Hinx in the train. And when Bond readies his gun and puts it behind his bag while walking in the desert. I liked the car that came to pick them up. The explosion of their base by the end were cool. Madeleine Swann were classy and looked stunning in her dress.

To me, there's a lot of things to like about Spectre as well. Too bad that the flaws and negatives balances it out but so be it. It's not one of the worst Bond movies but I do have a feeling with time, that I will appreciate it less.
