Fallout 4 has gone gold; leaked gameplay vids

I dont necessarily agree with Fallout being a harder sell. Bethesda's marketing machine has been running at full speed too. The review thread will be glorious either way

Question, do criticals only happen while using VATS? I was reading the perk descriptions in luck and it seems to only apply to VATS. If I just shoot manually, do crits still happen?

I've been wondering this myself. The shooting in general seems to be much improved, however I wouldn't be surprised to learn that critical hits are exclusive to VATS so character stats still play a big role in the viability of gun combat.

Buddy is looking for a laptop around $700-900 range that could run Fallout 4 and MGSV. Anyone got any recommendations? He's bugging me like crazy today because he just realized FO comes Tuesday haha

Nah. Skyrim was pretty well received right at the start. This game is already heavily divided. I'll go with 88-92. Still going with 91 though if I had to pick a number.

"Divided" from the same sort of people that were incredibly skeptical of Skyrim from the beginning. Internet message board users. Who are not what made Skyrim a widely popular game.

What stats are everyone going for? I think 3 strength for armor mods, 6 perception (to be raised to 8 for sniper), 1-3 endurance (no idea), 3-4 charisma (2 gives dude killer, 3 solo benefits, 4 extra dog vats hit), intelligence 4 (4 hacker, want eventually 6 for high tech mods), agility 6 (good for AP, want 8-10 eventually), 3 luck (bloody mess). Does this seem like a good all around build with a gun focus?

Go to the PC thread, but tell him that 900 dollars for a decent gaming laptop, even in 2015, is just pushing it. Decent mobility GPUs don't turn up in the 3 digit price bracket.

Really? I don't remember so much negativity about the game as it was releasing. But it was a while ago so I could be remembering wrong I suppose. Either way I don't think some people are going to let the graphics of the game go with out criticism this time.

$900 gets you a very nice desktop build. Unless he specifically wants a laptop to carry it around and game i'd suggest a desktop.

"Crawl Out Through the Fallout" is such a ridiculously appropriate song for them to use, I actually thought it had been commissioned for the game;
Crawl out through the fallout, baby
When they drop that bomb
Crawl out through the fallout
With the greatest of aplomb
When your white count's getting higher
Hurry, don't delay
I'll hold you close and kiss those
Radiation burns away

2 Strength+1 bobblehead for mods
3 Perception+1 bobblehead for lockpicking. Sniper perk at 8 looks terrible, not worth it in a min max build
1 Endurance+1 bobblehead because if you can't outrun a laser beam you should quit and go back to Call of Duty
xxx Charisma+1 bobblehead, dogmeat perk is pretty radical apparently not to mention inspirational and trade route thingy, but the trade route 1 is lategame
4-5 intelligence+1 bobble
7 agility, not fucking around I want Ninja and I want it now
7 luck and I'm going for the Irish perk because that looks nutso, and better crits and crit banking should be illegal

I'm predicting a 95 or if things go bad a 91-92

I'm seeing a mid 80s. Review community will compensate for Skyrim PS3 troubles by being a lot more critical on this version. Then again 80's would be a great score for a good game and a game like this is a perfect game to give it to even if its for political reasons as fans will be too busy playing to care and people who feel Bethesda needs to have their day in court will be happy as well.

I just hope the game's really solid and doesn't crash on me. I've put hundreds if not thousands of hours into Skyrim but I hope Bethesda were able to capture the really annoying bugs that were in that game in this one before shipping.

Yes. Whenever Dogmeat killed something I got XP for it.

I love it! Having a companion that can level you up would make it feel like a natural extension of my body. Sort of like a third hand or second penis... things that would be nice to have as long as they don't get in the way.

It really does seem that way, doesn't it?

But like you said, I'll let the others rant and rave either for or against the game. I'll be too busy playing the game too care much either way.

Was wondering this as well. Are sneak attack bonuses just damage multipliers or do they count as crits? Might be worth investing in the better criticals perk if they're counted as crits.

Wondering this as well. I'm leaning towards investing heavily in Agility and Luck if VATS is required for crits.

For $900? I'd try craigslist or ebay. I have a laptop with a 970m in it and very happy with performance. I wouldn't go anything less that personally. Plays everything great but I paid $1400 for it at release earlier in the year so maybe you can find a used one for that price (ASUS g751 btw). There is also a gaming laptop thread here you can check out.

What do you guys think, can it top Skyrim's Metascore? I just checked and was surprised that it's at 94. I don't care that much for reviews, but it's interesting to see how it will stack up to the other Bethesda RPGs.
Doubt it. Mid to high 80s is my guess. I think the new dialog system will turn some people off.

Looks pretty much identical to my build. I thought of stopping charisma at 3 points to get the lone wanderer perk and then adding a few more to luck and agility though.

Hmm true only a 4 in perception is really needed. High luck has some awesome perks, but level 4 and 5 seem sub par. Might have to rethink this, but stuff like endurance does add hitpoints although the perks are very weak. I'd like to get at least 6 in luck eventually, might start it at 5 or so instead.

You can raise a stat each level or choose a perk, right? And are bobble heads in the game that add to special like prior games?

Yes and Yes.

I didn't choose that much perks so far. I level'd up some stats and choose the perks to unlock locks and hack terminals. That's always the first thing to do. I hate it when there are doors I can't unlock yet. I'll try to max out that and do the rest later.

Yes, I'm hoping mods have given permission to post today because VPN shenanigans.

The guy said he's posting the OT tomorrow morning after he gets up, and he said the OT title won't be anything posted here including "graphics never change".

I wouldn't expect him to decide to post it early because some people will be able to do shenanigans to unlock early. That's silly.

Good to hear it's stable with no major hiccups. I'm assuming you guys are playing on physical. Got mine preloaded for Tuesday..

Keep the impressions coming guys, much appreciated.

Gotta mention that the framerate dips frequently as soon as you enter the city - depending on the enemies on screen. What makes this game go into like 15-20 fps, are close combat fights with any gun.
If an enemy gets too close, while firing at him, the framrate tanks really hard. It can be quite jarring and wasn't obvious at the beginning, because you start in a rural area. That's at least my experience so far.

Well if he actually lives in NZ it would make sense ;)

No longer hyped after hearing multiple issues regarding performance on PS4 - keeps getting worse and worse. Going to grab Divinity instead for Black Friday and hopefully FO4 is steady by the time I finish it.

Avatar relevant.

For those who have the game, I found another companion
Super mutant
, and said to dogma to go back to
Sanctuary
. I want to switch but I cannot find dogma anymore... any idea ?

I don't expect OT to go up earlier than rules allow [~24h before release], just would be nice. Thats all. Also isn't Ninja based in EU so OT is going up quite early anyways, at least for NA people?

It's going up around 10 am my time tomorrow (approx. 18 hours from now). That's well before the game becomes available via VPN.

That answers my question :b Also very cool, can't wait to smell that fresh Fallout OT. I'm expecting some rads to be there for that added flavor.
