I usually go charisma at 1 and intelligence as high as possible.

But from what I understand are there no skill points anymore? So will INT be less effective?

Yep, no skill points anymore.

Intelligence now seems to affect the number of experience points this time, so you can expect faster levelling up.

So what's the word on Charisma checks? What's a good level to have at the start, 5?

I got this answer previously:

Speech checks and everything I know about them:
I'm level 17
, so far Charisma seems to be the only influence on speech checks with the exception of the Lady-Killer perk. There aren't New Vegas requirements for speech checks like [Barter 35/25] or [Strength 3/2] nor are there percentages shown that you will pass. Speech check difficulty is color-coded. Yellow is easy, orange average, red hard.

There are numerous speech checks (ex: better rewards, flirting, convincing someone to join), and there can be progressively more difficult checks in the same conversation (like convincing Colonel Autumn to stand down).

I always bring alcohol and a set of Charisma gear with me.

What kind of trend is this one with Fallout 4 that makes alot trolls spoil a revelation about the story?

I hate spoilers but i dont really play bethesda games for the story. For me is not about the end but more about the journey. So why so many idiots all over the place spoiling it to others that might care?

Thanks to the stupid bethesda secrecy aka insecury about reveiling gameplay footage before release day, i was curious to see how the game runs and looks on a PS4, so was watching some streams yesterday, and while the streamers was not spoiling anything for me the chat was full of trolls spoiling something about the story, and was not only one guy spamming the spoiller but alot of guys doing it.

Actually i never got a game spoiled like that before and i see alot streams before release, so whats going on with Fallout 4 trolls?

Good thing i really dont mind about the spoiler itself, id rather not knowing it, but will not change my experience with the game. But for other that take the story more serious, just avoid all media.

anyone picking up a physical copy at best buy? their website says they are doing a midnight (9pm pst) launch. my store shows as one of the stores doing it, but i couldnt reach anyone at my store to confirm.

What are the realistic chances of being banned from steam for VPNing?

Haven't heard it happening. Just don't make any purchases while VPN is on, that one is bad.

I also might be paranoid but I always change my password after unlocking a game via VPN, I'm not comfortable with my login details going through some server I don't manage (despite SSL).

Some people really don't like it that others really like the Bethesda RPG games. They just don't get the appeal at all, and I think that frustrates them. Also shitty people continue to be shitty.

What are the realistic chances of being banned from steam for VPNing?

As far as I know virtually no chance. The only times people have been banned was when they used VPN's to buy games at a cheaper price (Russia.)

Does anyone know if we'll be able to turn off the sneak notification?

Anyone have any luck pre-ordering the Fallout 4 Gold bundle at Best Buy in store? It comes with the game and season pass for $85. I want to get that version since the gamer club discount doesn't normally apply to season passes. I still want to get the $10 pre-order bonus though, assuming the bonus would still apply to that version.

I checked the kiosk at the store and don't see an option. I don't see an option on the website to pick up in store either

It must be regional thing because I never had the option for pick-up in store either.

Well now we're into Xbox vs PS4 framerates in the other thread. It's times like this I'm happy to be a PC gamer. Xenoverse at 144fps on my PC vs 30fps gray filter was one of the biggest differences I've ever seen, it's strange that you get so many technically inept games put to console.

The PC port being inept I can sort of understand at times, but for the console to run badly is weird.

I wouldn't say technically inept, just that they have to make tradeoffs to get acceptable performance. PC can at least brute force most things, unless it's Arkham Knight.

Okay, a super newbie question:

Do the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats have other meaning besides giving access to higher perks? I mean if I look at Charisma and thought the perks were shit, would I be absolutely fucked in conversations? Or Intelligence make not able to do something complex that isn't related to a perk.

EDIT: Okay nevermind, I'm not a newbie, I'm just fucking stupid (1 Int or perhaps 1 PER in real life). It says the descriptions on the damn page where I was wondering this (nukahub).

Yes. Each point put into the SPECIAL stats increases something whether that be odds of successfully persuading someone or how much you can carry. Each one has something that'll affect how you play.

Anyone who has had time to evaluate the "ninja" perk for a semi-automatic rifle build? How useful is the perk outdoors in open world, considering that enemies often come in packs? Am I right to assume that the perk will be fairly useless indoors unless you are a master sneaker?

Go here and mouseover the attributes.

I don't think so. Seems to be Charisma only but there are difficulty levels dependant on your Charisma lvl. At least this way you're not penalised if you have other low stats,
not sure if you're confirming or if you just think that there aren't any changes. charisma obviously will be used in dialogues, that's pretty much the point of the skill. :p I had hopes that they bothered to make things more interesting since someone here mentioned an interview or something where they stated it could happen.
still I won't be surprised at all if they're going to disappoint.

Yeah thanks man. This really makes things harder coming up with a build and at the same time the game better.

Immediately after posting the question I did just that. I was on this page wondering what they do :-)

Played some more today. The crafting system is some of the best I've seen although I'm not completely sure how the resource inventory works. And the dynamic weather is just wow.

I just arrived at
the big city - forgot the name (diamond city?) - and I assume I'm there too early. I had to flee from a lot of high level enemies while I was going there. I'm level 5 and barely made any quests.

Some general stuff about the map. It seems small in the beginning buts it plastered with places to go. I really like it this way.

The dialogue system is actually done pretty well in my opinion BTW.

While I get that Charisma will be used in dialogues, I want to know what the "sweetspot" is. Can you get through most dialogues with 4 in charisma? Or is it 6? 8?

Or do we not know yet how it is?

What are you biggest gripes with it? And the positive?

-Story, characters and quests have been really uninspired so far.
-Inventory management is really annoying.
-The dialogue system is bad.

+-The commonwealth looks really good, great use of colors and illumination, great sense of scale, amazing atmosphere and has the right amount of density... but I've barely encountered any npc while exploring, it feels kinda empty...

I don't know if only charisma is involved. You will see different colors for certain answers in dialogues (yellow for easy, orange for difficult, red for very difficult) and I don't know if this colour changes with higher charisma or if it is just more of a general indicator and if your have high charisma you just have a better chance of also getting through with red dialogue options.

from watching the videos it seems gunplay is somewhat janky

is vats the most efficient way to play? what SPECIAL slot is the best if I want to focus on vats?

Sigh... They had a perfectly fine dialogue system in the previous game, if it ain't broke...

it was kind of janky in the previous games

If you want to make an adventure game you need a more fluid dialogue system rather than a tree you can go back and forth in.

It should be more like the Telltale games maybe?
