Getting an ounce same day as Fallout 4 :P

However I do come to their games for the pretty much endless possibilities they offer in terms of roleplaying, and then what do they do? They give the player character a voice and a backstory. They are breaking rule number 1 and rule number 2 of the "things not to do if you want your players to roleplay" guidebook...

Every Fallout game gives your character a backstory, so that seems par for the course.

Strength 3
Perception 4
Endurance 3
Charisma 3
Intelligence 9
Agility 3
Luck 3

Fellows, what do you think about this?

Strength for Armorer, Perception for Locksmith, Endurance for a bit of health and defense early on, Charisma to get to get me started as I would want to get to Local Leader at some point, Intelligence for the exp points, I will be needing this to boost some of the other stats, Agility for Sneak, aiming for Quick Hands later on, and Luck for Bloody Mess, might go for Better Criticals down the line.

I'm going for rifles to start with. Does it make sense?

Holy shit! You can get an extra SPECIAL point right in the beginning of the game, meaning 29 points instead of 28.

Literally the "first location" spoiler:
In the game start, there is a book, "What makes you SPECIAL?" It is in the character creation section in your house, before the war starts. This will give you an extra point, allowing you to make/plan a starting build with 29 points.

Tried this with a new char, I read the book before the conversation with the vault guy and it didn't work.

Can we get steam achievements while offline? Most games seem to point toward yes.

Gonna use a VPN too, eh? The answer is maybe, though if it's important for you, you could just keep separate saves just prior to each cheevo and then just reload and redo them online if offline is a no go.

Of course!

That was my idea too. Just save andreload when online

I'm going with:

S P E C I A L
3 4 5 6 4 3 3

edit: why dont you guys just activate your VPN, unlock the game, start it, then turn off VPN and go online? It won't boot you out of the game.

Oh man, if you press down on the games icon on PS4, you can see people's screenshots. It's getting hard not to look at every single one of them ;_;

Cool. With the introduction of the knowledge about the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. book I've tweeked my expectations again. I have only like 2 points in endurance to begin with. But to get every skill that I want with (realistically before I get bored and maybe spend more levels on points) I only have to spend 1 level up on adding a point to luck and then I should be golden.

Can someone plz explain how I assign someone to resource an object? for example I choose food under the Workshop and then command on a person and then GO, but nothing happens :-\

I totally agree and would much prefer not having a voiced main protagonist at all. All i'm saying is that there is no reason not to show the full response so i can make an informed choice, voice or no voice.
There is, redundancy, if we know what they're going to voice we will, if given the ability, skip the voicing of the line with a button press, I do that with jrpg's all the time!

for whatever reason Bethesda want you to hear the emotions, and be surprised by the word choice of, their premade character.. i hear what you're saying though, and really wish we were given an option.

lol no one plays Strength builds

I'm doing a melee character but I'm only going in with 4 at the beginning (5 with bobblehead). This is because I'm mainly concered about big leagues, armorer and blacksmith there. Luck and Agility have Ninja and Better Criticals which means I'll be relying on crits and skills that give more damage to melee weapons.

Once I get the skills that I want to the max level possible I'll start to add more points to strength.

Go into the Workshop view, walk up to the settler, press A/X to start the command then walk over to the resource you want them to manage and press A/X on it. It'll take a second to say this resource is assigned.

I somehow completely forgot about the intro of Fallout 3. I sort of feel better about it now.
The voice acting is still a bummer.

1, 2, BoS, and New Vegas all had defined character backstories as well and they were fine for roleplaying. I'd not worry about it in 4, since it seems the whole family thing applies only on the main quest, much like Fallout 3's hunt for Dad.

And you're right in that there'll probably be a mod to alter the beginning of the game as there has been for every Gamebryo game. The ones for Oblivion and Skyrim were quite thematic as well. It'll be fine.

My collector's edition Vault Dweller's Survival guide showed up early. I haven't got the game yet so I haven't looked at it in too much detail. Seems to be a lot in the game though.

I love STR builds, but I had some tough time in New Vegas playing one. If most enemies got wrecked by my Sledgehammer, I feel like end game was really hard on melee builds (DLCs even more so). I'd love to try a melee build here too, but I'm afraid to find myself in the same situation once stronger enemies appear. The 10th STR skill looks real fun though... hard to make a decision.

Can you carry a ridiculous amount of guns and loot right from the beginning? How feasible would it be to enforce your own limit on that for realism purposes? Too annoying or gameplay balance breaking?

If you are into crafting you would probably have issues as you can pick up nearly everything.

I typically play a thief/sneaker that uses a laser pistol. Would like to continue that, but I'd like to have better accuracy and more Charisma. Basically, I always find it useful to be able to steal and pick locks in this series. May consider hacking, but not sure.

I really hope Charisma checks aren't an after thought.

Thanks man. But when I need a resource that I have not got for example GEAR, can I assign them to go find it for me or do I have to find it myself?

I asked yesterday and was told in this thread that he had CHA 4 and was able to pass 30 to 40% of speech checks. I'm going with 6 CHA to start so hopefully I'm clearing 60% or more.

Thank you, this helps. I think I will adjust my build a little, don´t want too low speech checks.

So far I encountered quite a lot of charisma related dialogue.

Also how do I lower my RAD? Its covered about 33% of my health because I kept eating the bad food :( sorry Im a Fallout newbie but Im loving the game so far

[PS4] Will there be any EQ settings for this game in the Gold Headset Companion App?

Radaway is a quick fix, maybe you should look into the Lead Belly perk as well?

I'm going with the following for a highly malleable build that emphasizes survivability. I've heard that stealth is a lot weaker this time around (with sneaking only becoming viable once the level 23 perk unlocks), so I'm leaving myself open to a variety of options.

S 3
P 3
E 5
C 4
I 5
A 6
L 2

Decent STR for carryweight, possibly melee weapons if I end up liking them.

Decent PER that will almost immediately be boosted to 4
thanks to that early bobblehead
, for lockpicking.

Moderate END for HP and sprinting + Life Giver and Aquaboy.

Moderate CHR for speech checks + Lady Killer, Lone Wanderer and (with bobblehead) Animal Friend.

Moderate INT for EXP boost + Medic, Hacker and Gun Nut.

High AGI for lots of AP + Action Boy & Moving Target.

Low Luck for Scrounger (if ammo proves to be scarce on higher difficulties).

You can assign them to the salvage station. I haven't seen any way to have them look for specific things found outside the settlements.
