  1. Start your VPN to New zealand time with steam turned off.
  2. Start steam and go to fallout 4.
  3. Hit play / unlock (this part i don't know, i assume it'll say play).
  4. Fallout 4 should load as long as its past 2:00AM New Zealand Time.
  5. Alt + tab out of fallout 4 and go to steam and make steam go into offline mode.
  6. Turn off your VPN, make sure you do not let steam go back online until it's 12:01 your local time.
That's it i think. Not hard at all.

Just a correction but it unlocks at 2AM New Zealand Time, Bethesda thinks we are fucking Australia and sit in the 10GMT time zone.

It certainly has framerate drops - not only in interior, also outside. Sometimes even quick freezes (maybe half a second) when it's loading something midgame. But I also see why. f.e. dead bodies don't disappear, you can go loot them whenever. There's a lot of shit going on in the background.
It crashed about 6 times in maybe 20h of playtime.
 
anyone know anything about buying games from different regions on xbox? Could I buy this off of the New Zealand store to unlock it early. I have no idea how the conversion works on there...or if it is bannable
 
What the hell, I wake up and Fallout 4 still isn't downloading, is the preload still not up? The game comes out in 11 damn hours.

While I still think it sucks when framerate hitches like this (and I literally have my PC setup the way it is today to avoid it), my heart skipped a beat reading your post because periodic hitching on a regular interval is perhaps the worst bug I've ever had when playing Skyrim on the 360 (it happened after a patch and a bad save and would never go away afterwards). It pretty much made me play the game from the PC from that point onward. Nothing destroys my gaming experience like regular hitching. I'm fine with slow-downs and even hitches when loading major areas but theirs something soul crushing about hitching.

What platform and location?

I had to restart steam to get my preload option to show up even though it was apparently ready since a few days ago. I think that NZ PSN are still waiting.
 
I love how this thread essentially became the safe thread to hype, while the framerate thread is essentially the anti-hype zone.

Just gimme that OT. Avoiding that review thread like the plague.

PS4 and Australia, especially because Im in Australia I won't be able to download the game in that little time.
 
oh god, idk what to do. I wanted to carry on the legacy of getting all the achievements in the fallout games on xbox. But I am becoming desperate to play. And the temptation of unlocking it early is too much to handle

Which is kinda ironic because "Gone gold!" & "Leaked gameplay vids!" were merged into this single thread just because of that, so there wouldn't be two different "camps" (hype & anti-hype). Now there is even more FO4 threads up than then and "camps" are kinda back.

OT and Review threads should be glorious tho, also can't wait for that PC Performance thread with all .ini tweaks popping up.

last minute internal debates in my mind. Is there any reason to get it on xbox one(besides achievements, which I do care about) over PC. Are there any reported issues with the PC version at all? I have a 970 and an i5-3350p

Well Imo just achievements and a nice controller, with that rig though, I would choose the Pc version because of the gameplay mods and also the graphical ones for an already good looking game.

Edit...Also: 60fps
 
Can someone confirm: you start the game with perks (level 1 or just base) from the first perks in each SPECIAL tree without having to unlock them with level ups?

If PC can handle game well then only reason to get on XBO is those achievements and GS(?). I'm not familiar with your CPU, but with quick glance it seems to be barely below i5 2500K in performance? Should be able to handle FO4, but you may want check with someone more familiar with model you have.

You need unlock all SPECIAL perks with level ups, none of them is given to you free. Because SPECIAL can't be lower than 1 you can always unlock at least that value 1 perk, when you level up that is.

I'd go PC with your setup without thinking about it lol. I'll take better graphics, framerate, mods (more of them) over achievements any day.

Not that I know of.

To be honest, pretty much any Bethesda game should be played on PC if at all possible. You are way over the line in terms of hardware (assuming you're ~8GB RAM at least) to where I wouldn't even consider one of the console versions unless you really feel that strongly about XBL achievements.
 
Thanks for the responses everyone! I do have 8 GB RAM. I think I am going to go ahead and get it on steam instead. Unlocking early is pushing me over to that side
