The latest entry in Activision’s Call of Duty series goes straight to the top of the UK boxed games charts.

91 per cent of Week One sales were for the newer PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while a measly nine per cent of units sold were for the the PS3 and 360.

This is the seventh biggest Call of Duty title in terms of revenue. This is likely the result of Black Ops III only launching on Friday – the first time in six years. Other Call of Duty titles launched on Tuesday, therefore we can’t really compare Black Ops III sales to that of last year’s Advanced Warfare.
1. Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Activision Blizzard
2. FIFA 16, EA
3. Need for Speed, EA
4. Halo 5: Guardians, Microsoft
5. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Ubisoft
6. Minecraft: Story Mode, Telltale Games
7. WWE 2K16, 2K Games
8. Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar
9. LEGO Dimensions, Warner Bros
10. Call of Duty: Ghosts, Activision Blizzard

Just emphasising so that people don't jump to conclusions.

It's really surprising to me that it opened lower than Ghosts an AW.

Was expecting a healthy growth even with the expected last gen decline.

Since last gen version are pretty bad, seem legit.

We don't know the % of PS4 and XB1 yet?

EDIT:

PS4 = 48%
XB1 = 43%
X360 = 5%
PS3 = 3%

I would've thought there'd be more sales on a Friday than Tuesday since nobody's got school or work to worry about.

91% of sales on next-gen makes me question why they even port CoD to PS360 anymore. They're clearly doing more bad than good here, as they're only tarnishing their brand with casual gamers who notice the lack of campaign and mediocre sub-par graphics.

Halo launched last week and NFS launched on 2 formats compared to 1. It would have been surprising if Halo had kept up based on the week 1 sales, but it dropped 78% week on week.

Even still, there has been next to no buzz surrounding that game.

2 days of tracking compared to 5

Well sure, I've read that bit, but if there's a game I would expect a fuckton of people to show up on Day 1 it would be CoD.

We'll see next week if it has considerably lower drop than previous CoDs.

Seems like franchise fatigue is hitting nearly everything that isn't a sports license. Not a good look for a contracting market being made up mostly of a shrinking base of core players. AAA console publishers doubling down on core IPs approaching double-digit numbers of entries desperately need fresh new designs over new content, not just new names and hotter looks for old games.

Mind my ignorance, but why does the day matter? Especially Tuesday to Friday, where I would of thought more people would of bought it due to the weekend.

Bit of a shame it's ranked 7th, as it's definitely not the 7th best in the series.

9% for PC and last gen is quite large.

Keeping that extra 8% engaged before they upgrade to current gen paid off I'd say.

A lot of people will pick up the game during their weekly grocery shop- which could be any day of the week.

luckily for COD the digital sales are 40> .. I have 9 friends who bought it digital, only one bought it at a shop.

Maybe you can accurately work out the digital % for CoD and it might work out the best selling if 90% bought it digital ;)

A Tuesday release also has the weekend for sales + Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

You guys couldn't be any more wrong, only 5 of my friends bought this and we all got it digitally. Come on, physical isn't even selling anything these days. Only kids who's parents by them their games get physical. We all know this.

People are more likely to buy digitally on a Tuesday than a Friday

This is so much meta right now.

Where does PC come into this? Also isn't the PC port really bad or something?

Parents be all like 'we don't know what the digitals are'.

They then lie down and turn to dust allowing the Earth to reclaim them.
