Fallout 4 PC Performance Thread

Probably not...

fallout-4-nvidia-geforce-gtx-900-series-performance.png

I don't know what is going on in those benchmarks. I've got a 980ti and am at 1440p with shadow, grass, and uGrids tweaks and am holding 60fps most of the time with drops down to high 40's. Even before tweaking I tried it out at 4k and was hardly going under 50fps. Maybe those benchmarks include all max tweaked settings too. Seems really off though.

Copying my question from the DF thread:

Has anyone with a leaked/early copy tested it on something similar to an i5 3570?

I won't have any problem with my GPU but I'm worried about CPU performance since the recommended is a 4770...

These are my exact specs, except I have no OC'd my 970. 1400mhz, but did you change anything else(voltage, etc)?

Really promising results from what you're saying. I'm excited now.

Gigabyte g1 970 gaming, no I did not increase them, (but I think they were increased by gigabyte), btw it's an amazing card for overclocking.

Copying my question from the DF thread:

i5 3570k @ 4,2ghz here. CPU load is at around 30% per core atm. You are fine.
60fps on my 970, no drops (so far!!!), everything on extreme with godrays on high.

Wow, uGridsToLoad ini change leads to a massive improvement of the graphics. Anyone who elected to play the game with uGridsToLoad=9? How did it work out?

I looked at the Fallout 4 profile with Nvidia Inspector. There's a SLI profile there, it's just not configured correctly.

I've had two crashes already, once when talking to the guy at the door, second time right after picking up the pipboy and looking through its menus...wtf.

Thanks! I just realized I have a 970 FTW version, which comes pretty well overclocked already.

I have my CPU overclocked to 4.2 just like you as well. We seem to have almost the exact same rig, so I'm pretty happy to see you posting these results.

Thanks again.

OK... New question: is there a way to cap the frame rate?
Holy shit unlocking the frame rate is giving me too much fps.

i7 4790K + GTX 780

I'm on the new Nvidia drivers and getting constant crashing in game. Really sucks.

I'm getting a nearly locked 60fps on my laptop with a gtx970m. It's running on a mix of ultra and some medium settings.

Did you get the crashes on the old drivers as well?

I did, never got past the character creation screen first, it always crashed at some point. Now I got through it with the new ones, to crash right when I was descending into the vault.

For those having crashes I think I might have found a solution on steam the forums.

This is a problem with Windows 10 (in particular) and a number of games.

Try this fix:
Rename the file windows\syswow64\XAudio2_7.dll to XAudio2_7.dll.backup
Then copy the 32bit variant found in windows\system32 into the syswow64 folder. You will need administrator privileges.

Let us know if it works.

Can anyone with the game upload .ini file somewhere? Or just put it into pastebin.com
I still dont have my code so cant even reload ;/

It's all maxed settings. It looks like tweaks to god-ray settings will be required for a more steady 60fps experience.

R9 270
FX 8320E
8GB DDR3

Getting between 35-60 fps on ultra at 1080p, normally mid forties. Looks great.

What uGrids you running?

I mean it is kinda going to waste since my monitor is 60hz right?

And also my fans started getting a tiny bit louder. Sorry, not used to PC gaming. It's fucking with my head

Where's that at? In the same ini?

Winter is coming, you'll need the heat. Welcome to PC Gaming.

i5-2500K @ 4.4 GHz
GTX 970 (Gigabyte G1 Gaming model, so factory overclocked) with the latest drivers
8 GB RAM

Running at the game's suggested settings (everything Ultra minus godrays which are set to high) at 1080p and getting a solid 60 fps 99% of the time, even when out exploring the wasteland. I am noticing the game is utilising my GPU quite heavily (sometimes hovers around 90% utilisation), so this could mean major action on screen later on could cause some frame drops. No complaints so far though.

VRAM usage not breaking 2 GB means there's plenty of overhead for mods as well, which I look forward to.

Where's that at? In the same ini?

Hmm, looking around, it seems to be enabled by default (people on Reddit are tweaking ini files in order to disable it).

If you're worried about stuff overheating, then don't be. When you play an intensive game, your fans are going to speed up - it's inevitable (and benificial, as the fans are obviously what cools your hardware).

Anyone have problems with DS4 + DS4windows?

The buttons are acting really funky, prompt says "Y" but the action is actually "A", etc.

Are there any known issues playing with SLI?

It doesn't exist?

As I said in my last post, there's a profile for it in the latest drivers, it just needs to be configured. Hopefully the modders will get on that. I might fool around with the settings in Nvidia inspector a bit.

This is usually related to AMD tessellation performance. If you have the AMD Optimized Tessellation checked in CCC, your performance will be much higher.

I have an Iris Pro lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When Anandtech looked at it they said it was pretty good at tessellation for it's other performance metrics, and in general it may edge out the 550TI, but I'm not sure how the tessellation would stack up.

This is likely something configurable in an INI though going by this thread, in the Witcher 3 I was able to turn down tesselation.

Riva Turner Statistic Server.

Rivatuner Statistics Server

Riva Tuner statistics server. It comes with MSI afterburner.

Thanks so much h guys. I actually have msi afterburner, but never looked into that I guess.

And yea, If that is normal, I guess I'm OK then.

Honestly the game doesn't run amazing but I've enjoyed what I played so far.

With mostly high settings and a 780Ti I'm not keeping a stable 60.

Iris Pro? That's an integrated Intel GPU right? You're wanting to play the game on only that? At what resolution?

What's uGrids, guys and will it cause a big performance hit?
uGrids is a setting in Bethesda's engine which determines how many "zones" (quadratic blocks) around your character are fully instanced at any point in time (rather than just displayed as a low-detail palceholder with no active entities).

It makes a significant difference in distant detail level and causes a massive performance hit.

Thanks for the find, I'll give it a go =)
