Fallout 4 PC Performance Thread

I just spent about 6 hours straight playing with not crashes and no major glitches. I'm getting some minor stuttering here and there, but it's no big deal to me, and I'm quite sensitive when it comes to framerate and stuttering. It was terrible at first though, but after playing in borderless window instead of fullscreen the stuttering was almost completely gone.

Other than godrays (I set it to medium), everything is on ultra and I play at 1080p. My specs:

GTX970
i5 2500k @ 4GHz
8GB RAM
Windows 10

I'm getting:

yWVwOFI.png
Me too. Regional blocking?

Lowering god rays to high boosted pretty much locked by FPS to 60. But progressing through the game and now, I'm now to the 50's again in certain areas.

980ti @ 2560x1440

Guess I'm gonna have to drop it to 1080p for a bit while trying to figure this out.

shouldn't you be getting way higher frames w/ a 980ti?

Just drop godrays to medium, or even low. The performance gain is insane, and the visual impact is rarely every noticeable.

Alright, I'll try that, thanks!

The nvidia guide is down for me too so it's hard for me to gauge the differences between settings and their relative impact.

Everytime I got to a computer to read, when I exit, I'm stuck in place. Every single time. Is there a fix for this? Seems like a pretty big oversight.

Regardless of your system configuration, all NVIDIA GPU users will automatically receive Optimal Playable Settings for Fallout 4 through GeForce Experience, and those with sufficiently-speedy, compatible GPUs will have NVIDIA Volumetric Lighting effects enabled in-game. With a single-click, Fallout 4’s 20 settings will be auto-configured for your system, with a target of 60 frames per second, delivering a responsive, smooth experience.

Has anyone with a 970 tried this Easy One Simple Click Method? How did it turn out?

After the driver release, I'm getting 60fps (with the odd minor drop) at 4K. With G-Sync it's immaculate so far.

Before the driver it was stuttery and awful.

No issues with G Sync? On the 358.50 drivers I was getting screen tearing on my Acer XB270HU last night. I'm about to install the new drivers now, so hopefully it fixes the issue.

980Ti SC(I have 2 cards but only using 1 thanks to no fucking sli support...)
6700K @ 4.7ghz
16gb DDR
SSD

At 1440p and with everything on Ultra I was getting over 100fps until I got out of the vault, no stuttering or graphical problems other than the screen tearing. I have set iPresentInterval to 0 in my ini. I also have uGrids set to 7 but have yet to fully test it out in the open world.

I just got a gsync 144 hz monitor, but I've been reading that running the game above 60 is bad. Is this true? What kind of issues will I see? Should I disable Gsync or Vsync. I'm a bit confused.

Thx!
Its probably radial blur from Skyrim ;/

About SSR.
Give any of these a try?
Screen Space Reflections Tweaks

Using the in-game console, accessible with the tilde key (~), left of "1" on most keyboards, you can adjust a number of Screen Space Reflection (SSR) parameters to modify their appearance:

SSRI [number] (default: 1): adjust the intensity of SSR
SSRBP [number] (default: 1): adjust the blending power of SSR
SSRAT [number] (default: 0.2): adjust the angle threshold of SSR
SSREFF [number] (default: 0.2): adjust the edge fade factor of SSR
SSRVBP [number] (default: 50): adjust the vertical blur power of SSR
SSRVAP [number] (default: 2): adjust the vertical alignment power of SSR
SSRVSP [0.0-1.0] (default: 0): adjust the vertical stretching power of SSR
SSRRSS [number] (default: 8): adjust the ray step scale of SSR
Once you've settled on a combination of settings that you like, take a note and add them to a text (.txt) file, with one command on each line. Place the file in your game install directory where the Fallout4.exe is located, and when you're next in-game type bat [filename] to execute the changes.

Okay so
FX8350 @4.8ghz
r9 280x
8gb ram

getting 45-60 most of the time with everything set to ultra with godrays on high. It drops to so far 35 is the lowest ive seen. I havent overclocked my video card yet though.

The temporal AA at 1080p does wonders, but im so nit picky i can still see jaggies, and taa is really blurry. Wish there were better AA options. Or maybe some sweetfx sharpening overtop of the TAA will look really nice.

hmm i have i7 3770k
16gb ram
7970 OC 3gb
i should be able to run this 1080p/60fps right?

Eh, I wouldn't be too sure. I mean, a 280X is basically a slightly faster re-branded 7970, right? And apparently maxed out on 1080p, it yields around 45 fps.

Unless you meant lowering some settings, then yes, you should be able to hit 60 if you played with some settings.

Haven't read through the thread fully, but does anyone know how the game is delivered if buying the PC version from Best Buy? I can't figure out if they're selling a physical retail install disc or just emailing a code.

And in either case, is the game tied to Steam at all, or is it a standalone app?

Just played the game on a 980 Ti, with everything maxed (also godrays) and 1440p. Everything was buttery smooth and I didn't notice any drops. I do have a G-sync monitor tough, so not sure if it dipped under 60 FPS, but I'll put up a FPS counter tomorrow and really test the performance.

yeah i figured the options would be set around high/medium. as long as it doens't look muddy i guess

Seen some people in here with a similar problem, but has anyone figured out a way to mitigate or straight-up eliminate the bizarre stuttering that seems to occur indoors or when close to objects?

I'm playing on a 980 Ti and my framerate is a rock-solid 60, but this stuttering will not let up.

Ok trying to decide between PC and Ps4 for this game, my PC is getting old so I'm not sure which way to go.

My specs:

Windows 7
AMD Phenom II X6 1055t (It's now a five year old CPU, my main concern)
Radeon R9 280x
8gb of 1333 Ram

Based on that, maybe Ps4 is a better bet? My gpu is still relatively new but that CPU is tremendously bottlenecking me these days I think.

Has anyone else encountered a huge bug which makes you stuck in place after interacting with the first computer terminal in the game?

Sorry, Bethesda, but this is not good enough ... :(

Are my interactions with the first computer terminal representative of the polish I can expect going forward?

I've had it happen to 3 different computers. Quick save before using any.

Someone said earlier it might be tied to high FPS, which may be true as I'm generally 100ish in areas it happend to me at. Might need to force a lower FPS in Rivatuner since there's no way to manually cap it in the game and I'm on a 144hz monitor.

Yep, and the same thing has happened with every terminal I've interacted with so far.

Not a great first impression.

Yep that happened to me in the first building in the first main town.

I got stuck at that one. And the next.

Do you guys happen to have GSync also?

Anyway, capping the FPS to 110 using RTSS works for me (try 100 if that still doesn't work). Was stuck like 10 times in the starting vault before I went searching for fixes. lol.

I have gsync. Will try RTSS limiting at 110

I have a pretty dated build, was waiting for the Oculus Rift consumer release to upgrade. Think I'll be able to manage 30FPS at 3440 x 1440 with a Radeon 7970 and an i5-2500k? Both are overclocked pretty significantly.

edit: Actually, does this game have ultra widescreen support at all?

I got rid the stuttering completely by disabling vsync in the Fallout4Prefs.ini and forcing the game to run with 30fps through RTSS. With borderless windowed mode I also have no tearing at all.

The game runs rocksolid so far with a mix of high/medium settings @1080p. And I have only an old Geforce GTX 660 Ti.

Damn, I'm getting CTDs every couple of minutes :(

970 GTX, new driver.

The athmosphere in this game is incredible! I'm already seeing myself logging hundred of hours in this game once the crashing is fixed.

Did you try updating to the beta patch for the game? There was a patch pushed through the Steam Betas CDN to address some kind of XAudio crashing.

You should be able to pick it up by right-clicking the game -> Properties -> Betas tab -> Select the beta option from the first dropdown. It should pick up a small patch.

Oh, I didn't know that, thanks! Downloading now, let's see...
