Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

No, I'm using a Technicolor 8305c from Comcast, but I did have them send me an Arris modem just a month ago and that didn't fix the issue. I also bought my own modem and for some reason it wouldn't work. I'm pretty sure Comcast is fucking with me but there's nothing that I can do since they're the only broadband provider in my area (except for shitty AT&T DSL).

I really hate how I get disconnected from Halo 5 servers the moment I get any lag, even it's just a couple of seconds. In other games, I never get dropped. MCC, for example, would just cause a rubber banding effect that eventually goes away, but it never kicks me from the game like Halo 5 does.

I wonder if it is a hardware compatibility problem though. It seems all the cable providers that provide Arris modems are having disconnect or lag issues. People having issues with multiple X1's on a network unable to play together in a fireteam are seemingly all using Netgear series R(7000/8000/8500/700) router get booted from the game before loading for no apparent reason and there is nothing that the user can do to fix this.

I use an R7000 router, which was something around $200 when I bought it and am splitting the cost of a new TD-link Archer AC3200 which is a $250 router that doesn't have reports of these issues. I will report back if it fixes the problem. I was able to play with my brother for a handful of games on an old router before it decided to stop broadcasting wifi and it was glorious. It would be nice if 343i could give some idea of whether this particular issue would be getting fixed or if I made the right call spending $250 to replace a perfectly functioning piece of networking hardware.

I don't care how "balanced" it seems on paper. Dying in less than a second is pure awfulness in Halo; it feels totally off and plays like shit imo. It belongs in COD and other twitch shooters, but I suppose we can add Halo to that genre now so that feature is right where it belongs.

I don't think you understand... The TTK is virtually the exact same as all the other Halo games...

The only one that it differs from is Halo:CE... Which had the fastest TTK of them all.

Maybe you aren't adapting to the higher movement speed, so you're dying more frequently... But you aren't dying faster.

I have played a little bit of Mission 1 of the Campaign as well but I don't plan on continuing. Honestly, I have no idea what's going on anyway and who's who. I'm thinking of buying the Master Chief Collection tomorrow.

Should I just go through them by release order: Halo 1, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Reach (when it's backward-compatible), Halo Wars, Halo 4 and then Halo 5?

Should I read the books as well? I had 3 books years ago but never read them before selling them again. How many books are there now? And is the lore and stories still worth keeping up with? Are they actually great (not just the books, but the over all stories of it all) ?
I would play it like this Halo 1 > Halo 2 > ODST > Halo 3 > Halo 4. You can skip Halo Wars and Halo: Reach as there is no real link to the main story, that and to be hoenst I don't even view Reach as canon.

Most of the weapon in the sheat showed a TTK over a second assuming you are not moving, in which case guns have a similar TTK than before, is possible you are been killed by an assisted player.

Dieing in less then a second? Are you sure you aren't accidentally playing swat?

It sure as shit doesn't feel that way. I don't know how it works out in terms of numbers, but whatever the cause is, the gameplay is totally joyless for me. I get nothing good from playing.

It goes without saying that I don't begrudge anyone else who enjoys the game the way it is, but for me this is probably it. Like, I can't play the game without either being annoyed, frustrated or just dissatisfied.

The TTK is actually HIGHER in Halo 5 than it is in Halo CE and only a few 10ths of a second less than 2, 3, and 4.

Then I might be placing my frustration in the wrong place. Regardless of what it is in terms of gameplay, I dislike dying so quickly and the general gameplay. Again, cool that you guys don't, but I'm just sharing my perspective on it. I've been playing Halo since I was like 10 and I've loved every single game up until now except for Halo 5. Even with Halo 4 I found something to love about the game. This is just not how I expected the game to feel or play like and I can earnestly say that, after two weeks of actively playing and trying to love it, I don't. It's the total opposite of what I expected to think of this game and it really bums me out because I was so hyped for it. :(

That's fine that you don't like it but when you say it has low TTK and compare it to CoD that is objectively wrong on so many levels

I get where the comparison comes from... 60fps, Sprint, ADS but the comparisons stop there as it's really quite a different game. This is halo as you knew it,on crack.

From the sounds of it you don't seem to be enjoying the small cramped maps. Did you try warzone? Maybe BTB will be more your thing when it launches later this week.

Damn. You must be pretty good. I'm on mission 14 of my Legendary play through and I have 180 deaths already.

Most of my deaths came from the final section in chapter 15. Good luck, and don't go crazy like I almost did!

Stinkles replied to one of my rants and said that the issues would be fixed soon so that I could start playing MP again. He hasn't followed up with any new information on what is being fixed (if any at all) since then.

Yeah, I'm sorry you can't get into it. I wonder what the issue is, can't be the TTK though. Movement options should actually have you living a bit longer than in most Halo games... But that also benefit your enemies the same way.

I have a friend that thinks he iss bad at it and will go like 8-10 in a team slayer game with us and we win. He claims he is not having any fun when stuff like that happens and has pretty much stopped playing the game and picked up BO3.

No grenade indicators (unless I'm blind) Why, just why. True I could wear surround sound headphones so I could hear the tink-tink but damn.

And I agree with the guy about TTK seeming lower, but maybe it's because it's the higher framerate makes it harder to tell what's Happening at any given time, especially at first.

I don't have a problem with you disliking it I just was letting you know the facts behind the TTK :P

I think with Halo 5 it's all about adapting to a new style. It's easy to die a lot and die fast if you just spawn, sprint around, get into a firefight and die.

It's all about taking your time, surveying the map and not rushing in where there's 2-3 other ways into the room for enemies to find you.

I know exactly what you're saying. You can easily die far too fast in Halo 5. It's a much more vertical game, rather than previous Halo's that were a bit more linear. You just need to position yourself better and take your time. It's alright if you're not getting a fuck ton a kills right off the bat. Get your bearings first.

Another issue might be that the AR is a BIT too powerful, both in range and damage. That frustrates me too.

He replied to me last week after it was apparent to me that it wasn't exclusively an issue on my end and I posted about it. There is a thread about it on Waypoint and there doesn't seem to be any end in sight. The fact that nothing was said about it in the weekly update last week is what pushed me to just order a new router. I would seriously hope they fix this.

Another reason for thinking TTK is too low and dieing too much is too much sprinting.

You cant recharge your shields while sprinting.

Yeah that is a bummer. There are some other things to consider as well. This halo game has a steeper learning curve than the others, and the Spartan Abilities have brought with them new ways to die and more places to get killed from. Other halo games were much simpler in that regard.

Maybe that's what you don't like... It's a little overwhelming for me, since I don't get as much time to practice as I did when I was a teenager playing Halo:CE. But I still have a blast...

Sorry it didn't work out for you.

In that sense,

Yea, it really sucks. I hope your new router fixes the problems for you. I doubt I'd be willing to spend that much on one myself.

Hasn't this guy had his songs in one of the older Halo games?

The only reason I am spending that much is because if I'm going to be buying a replacement I don't want to take a step backwards with transfer rates with in-home streaming or number of connected devices. I'd be okay taking a lateral move to an equivalent router made by a different manufacturer, but when I can spend ~$50 more for a better one I would rather take the step to better future-proof my network.

I feel the same way unfortunately

Damn, I'm relieved that I don't take this game seriously enough to be that frustrated (well, those Warden fights were another story).

Can count the list of bullshit on one hand and they're all simple fixes.

I'm pretty terrible at breakout, can't seem to land killing headshots any where near as easily as traditional halo, but just got an extinction medal against a very solid squad. Feels good. Feels damn good.

Hey, guys. You know how I said I hated this game over the past 2 days...I love it again:

And the best part about my 3 Wins? They were all on the different Warzone maps. That's what I called "Doing The Treble"! ;D

Nothing like that to heal my wounds haha.

...still want a DMR.

I did the reverse bought like 5 golds so i could get it out my system was happy with what i got
Realized paying wasn't gonna help with what i wanted
And just started grinding my way now

I suck hard at this Halo stuff.

Any tips for a newcomer? Should I always aim for the head? Every time I start shooting at somebody, he turns around and kills me. I think I had 5 kills and 20-something deaths.

I'm honestly not enjoying it much at the moment, and I really want to.

Try not to die and try to stay with a teammate. If you see your teammate shooting at someone, try to shoot at them too.

I hope they can patch it in to where your skin shows on any weapon you pick up. It'd be a shame never to see my BR or DMR skins in Arena.
