Is the male voice acting a lot worse than the female? As I normally go male in Rpg's but having second thoughts now after hearing the male voice is not that good.

Where does one acquire nuclear material early on in the game? I want to mod my weapons a bit but I have no idea what constitutes as "nuclear material."

1.5 hours in and I fucking hate this. I hate being a wife, I hate having a husband, I hate having a child, and I hate having forced emotional responses to this shit. I want my character to be happy everyone is dead and she is free but I'm fucking stuck being sad about shit I don't actually care about. I just feel like in previous games I'd have the choice to be concerned or not, here I'm stuck. And is pisses me the hell off.

I know I was worried about this from all the shit I've seen leading up to the game (I did try to avoid too many details though), but I didn't expect it to be this bad. My hype has been crazy derailed. Gonna try to power through this, but totally off the idea of getting DLC and definitely not giving any shits about Elder Scrolls/Fallout stuff in the future if this is the continued direction for Bethesda.
Really paints that aspect of the series into a corner, doesn't it? The oversimplification of the dialog options is the icing on the cake, I guess Bioware style works for the masses though.

I'm not big on roleplaying but yeah, this is exactly how I'm feeling after the first 5 hours.

Whatever, I'll just enjoy exploring the wasteland and turn my brain off whenever something regarding my character's family or whatever comes up lol

alt-tabbing while loading is apparently not recommended, I have no idea why it is causing my UI to scale down into the corner of the screen when I can't even change the rendering resolution mid-game.

So companions are immortal all the time. Can't kill the dog and can't even target it in VATS before it becomes a companion. So much for freedom of choice.

So..

Ive never played any fallout game, and the only RPG game ive played since Secret of Mana was Bloodborne. So pls gaf, get me started.
Im thinking about getting this game but i need a little guidance.
What skills should i level, how should I create my character, what is important in the world of fallout, what should i look after, and what isnt important?
Could someone give me some direction?

That depends, what do you want to do?

Each stat governs a number of skills associated with it. Fallout 4 isn't clear on it, but you can look up a special guide to see what governs what.

As for your perks, when you level up you choose between a SPECIAL level or a perk. It's up to you.

And loot everything.
Was blown away when the robot actually said the name that I entered for my character...

My robot didn't say Ocelot.

Therefore I can only assume that he is under control from THE PATRIOTS!

Question on something that might be a bug.

Slight location spoilers:
I found a robot scrap yard with a sentry robot there and in the building was a terminal with a tape that let me turn it on and sent it to defend places. It doesn't move though or attack but does get attacked and doesn't have a health bar show up. I can send it to certain places to defend and it will show up there when I get there but it's not doing anything. Is it broken (in universe) or should it be moving around shooting stuff?

Playing on PC if it matters.

I'm getting some weird stutter while on 3rd person camera on PS4. Like, frames are freezing when I pan the camera on 3rd person but none of that happens on 1rst. Other than that, I'm loving the shit of this masterpiece. Grats, Bethesda! (Fix your shit tho)

I have been waiting for 10 years for people in video games to respond to the player name you give your character.

I hope, one day soon, every NPC in the game and not just one will respond to it.

Gaf need some advice. Fallout noob here.

Is it worth putting a point or two in strength solely for carrying more items if I'm making a ranged combat build?

Is it super easy to be over encumbered at Strength level 1? Because I'd hate having to constantly run back and forth selling stuff.

Yes, just for less headaches. Though I'm sure a no weight mod is around the corner on PC if you're really wanting to min max things.

It's weird, people told me I was silly when I didn't really like Witcher 3 as much because I couldn't customise my character.

And now we have people complaining about Bethesda trying to give you a more definite character. Lol.

Story fits my unarmed Steve Rogers character like a glove anyway

You'll want some strength anyway as there are some weapon(including gun)/armor crafting perks around ~4 strength. And in this fallout more than the previous ones, you really need all the weight capacity that you can get.

Technically speaking, you can just use a console command and give yourself 5000 weight capacity.

I'd really love to play more tonight but I've run into a bug already that prevents my character from moving or interacting with anything after you exit using a computer terminal. You basically can't do anything. I think it's related to mouse movement.

Could be worse I guess: I wasn't able to get Fallout 3 running for over a month when it first came out.

sure its just the beggining (I hear the boston area is the problematic) but silky smooth 60fps on ultra so far

ran into some dialogue bugs already tho (subtitle bugs mostly, not exactly gamebreaking, but sure is annoying), so yeah, there be bugs alright

anyway, how do you repair power armor pieces? got a busted left leg and I cant transfer it back to the parked power armor while its busted.

also, how do you "hang" the power armor in those yellow stations, if you can even do that. I tried to transfer it but it only acted as a stash, it didnt visually show hanging (unless its because I couldnt transfer the left leg)

I played Fallout 4 for about an hour today before I had to go to work. First impressions:

Combat feels a LOT better than Fallout 3 or Fallout: NW. In those games it felt like I would randomly miss even if enemy was right in front of me. Now, rock solid.

It looks very pretty.

I like the new perk system a lot. I'll have to see how it works out.

I play on PC high settings (it autoselected those for me, I didn't touch anything), solid 60fps with occasional dip to 57 or so. I'm satisified, it's so, so smooth.

First impression is that Fallout 4 feels better than 3 and NW.

Cap your framerate to 110 or less. Preferably under 90. 60 is good.

You transfer it to the yellow racks by getting out near it, then hitting E for craft on the rack. It should also let you repair the broken part there too, it did for me. It was a little fiddly though, can't remember the exact command.

Well, I don't play the Witcher games because of how defined the main character is so at least my saltiness is consistent across open world RPGs >:|

I'm sure its been asked before but is it possible, to like, shut off the magnet tool when building? It feels almost impossible to build the house I want with what is currently going on.

Me messing around with power generators , bulbs, and wires in settlements.

Still can't turn on a bulb.

These games tie gunshots to your stats, so a gunshot is basically a stat check that could fail. It's not a true shooter, basically.

you sir, are a genius

I believe someone earlier in the performance thread solved that by deleting the ini and letting the game remake it?

Fixed it by setting the game and launcher to run as admin. Damn Windows 10 and its security heavy handedness...

EDIT: Still had to delete the main ini as well heh.

I thought I had read somewhere that you could get Lady Killer with a female character? Was that wrong? I want the dialogue options with my vault dwelling lady character.
