Just about to create my character. Anyone know if you can change your characters hair later in the game? It'll probably half the time it takes me to make my character if I know you can.

Where do you get cloth?

Me messing around with power generators , bulbs, and wires in settlements.
Still can't turn on a bulb.

Did the same, built all this shit thinking "Hell, everyone needs power and a light!"
And now I have a Generator running and several lights doing absolutely NOTHING :D

Just spent an hour and a half creating my creepy John Waters (is that redundant?)

Feels good

Just woke up, going to get the game later today so excited!!! What's the first impression Gaffers? Is IT gooood?

Got about 7 hours in. Mechanically it's better than both Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Guns shoot better, the enemies actually react sensibly to you, there are enemies that actually move pretty damned quickly, stimpaks can't be abused easily, and vats isn't a magic bullet anymore(if you don't have the right perks/stats anyway). The settlement stuff is interesting, plus the character creator is actually pretty good.

That being said, the role-playing elements are much worse than even Fallout 3. When you're given dialogue options(4 dialogue options), they're one to three words, and your character normally gives 1-4 sentences for each choice. So you have absolutely no way of knowing what the hell your character is going to say based on the options presented. As for leveling up, you get 1 choice per level on whether to take a perk or increase a stat, and leveling up has no other effect.

Overall, I'm liking the game despite the flaws.

Fought a raider in power armor, and I just...shot him with small arms. Went down like the naked guys next to him. That can't be right.

It's weird, people told me I was silly when I didn't really like Witcher 3 as much because I couldn't customise my character.

And now we have people complaining about Bethesda trying to give you a more definite character. Lol.

Story fits my unarmed Steve Rogers character like a glove anyway

I'm sure you realize they are very different games

In your workshop menu, choose furniture, pick a bed, choose a location, press use.

Oh, that's what I'm supposed to be doing? I've been standing in one place by the workshop, but I've noticed it lets me move around. I should be walking around and attempting to place the bed?

Edit: Also, what did people name their characters?

My wife wouldn't let me choose Joe Smith so I went with Harrison Wells. Codsworth will actually say "Mister Wells" over voiced audio to my character.

Can you do the intro with 2 guys or is it always a husband and wife? I know there's gay romance options later in the game, just curious about the intro.

Cap your framerate to 110 or less. Preferably under 90. 60 is good.

I don't know what's more nuts: the fact that the game's framerate is preventing character interaction or the fact that my PC is able to handle such a high framerate on ultra settings!

I did a quick search and found that I should actually UNCAP the framerate. Lo and behold, the problem is gone! Thanks for the help, you pointed me in the right direction.

After playing New Vegas for a couple days in anticipation...I'm not so sure about this. Not a fan of the new gunplay...it's objectively works and it worked fine before hand. I did not want an FPS...it seems like it got one. Also it reminds me wayyy to much of borderlands. Very big fan here, loved 3 and thought New Vegas was pretty good. Hopefully this gets better.

Can you not move items in the game?

I thought this, then someone pointed out that you have to hold the "pick-up-item" button.

KB&M or Controller?

Hope my pipboy edition arrives today.

Controller. People are having stutter problems with mouse, plus the default ini settings for it have it moving at different speeds on the X and Y axis. Just keep in mind you'll still need the keyboard to input your character's name.

I have the game at gamestop right now but my car wouldn't start and I didn't feel like calling a taxi to go over there at 11pm for the opening. I'm really wishing I had now after reading all these reactions. I'm jealous as hell. Oh well first thing tomorrow morning it will be mine and I'll have all day to sink into the wasteland

Still can't turn on a bulb.

lol. Same happened with me.

From what I got, if you fit a bulb and keep a generator nearby and activate it, the bulb ill light up automatically. No need to attached the 2.

I still dont get what the wire attachments do, connectors and rest of the things do.

I just went to Lexington and was minding my own business. Next thing I know, I hear what sounds like a missile falling. I then get blown up, and get the achievement "Touchdown". What just happened?

So I had just a glitch where all of a sudden the game froze for a bit and the landscape just went blank and then all of a sudden I flew across the map in my power armor and landed in the middle of some field with a guy.

Yeah, bit confusing at first, I stood at the damn workshop for a good minute before realizing that.

Still, cap your framerate, anything over 60 can potentially break the game, or so I've heard.

The game runs really well on my moderately powerful PC - smoothly, with no visible hiccups ( yet ) on High settings. The PC version, at least, seems to be well optimized.

I am only an hour in, and the game seems good. I don't mind the "RPG-lite" feeling of the discussion-wheel, the graphics are fine, and the atmosphere is gripping. Can't wait to play more later today!

So is there any reason to buy the console versions knowing how buggy they are and how little bethesda can do to fix them compared to PC modding that starts to fix the bugs from day1?

So you can get power armor very early in F4? Isn't this break sense of accomplishment and balance?

I think they actually want people to use it in this one. I never used power armor once in F3/NV. I've already come across two suits thus far within 7 hours of play.

Super ready for gundam mods.

If you have the option? I mean, yeah, go PC.

If not, the consoles seem serviceable. The game is still fun, even if it's not the best looking version.

Not really. Power armor doesn't work the same. It requires an item to power up for limited periods of time(like, when you get it you'll be able to use it for 10 minutes then you gotta find fuel). Not to mention it's upgradable; the base power armor is pretty weak.

Not really. If I had to give a negative reason, it's that if your frame rate goes too high on the PC it crashes.

Something is definitely wrong with my game. Playing the Steam version.

It's already crashed on me while talking to the vault tec guy.

And Im using a controller and the buttons aren't matching up, like, the buttons on the screen arent matching the buttons im pressing. when I close the game and launch it again, the button maps change..................*sigh*................this experience is turning out bad already.

Can't even get past simple shit, because i dont even know what button I press is going to do.

Do you have a controller that supports both Xinput and DirectInput? If so, it should have a switch somewhere. I had this with my controller on PC with another game, and that was the problem, while other games worked fine.

So would you recommend the game for PS4 to someone who played a bit through Fallout 3 but didn't like it as much? I loved Skyrim on PS3, but I still don't know if Fallout is the right game for me.

Reading all these positive impressions makes me want to give it another try, but I would hate to waste money on it and not playing it much after realizing it is not for me, again. :(

Even a budget PC can run this game well. If you have a capable PC I don't see why'd you buy it on consoles.

You get better performance and a bunch of mods that console players will not get.

Hahaha, holy crap.
Try farting around the neighborhood when you are supposed to be getting in the vault.
Almost had a heart attack.

I wanted to try this...

Hmmm. Well they improved a lot of gameplay stuff. The Role-playing stuff is worse, but you know. What didn't you like about Fallout 3, specifically?
