Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

People quit for a large variety of reasons. Seeing who you're matching is a huge problem. Sometimes you can upset a team of higher ranks, but you'd never know if people just quick looked at your teammates or the enemy and didn't see something they liked. Boom, dashboard. Enjoy your derank people-who-stayed!

I'm pretty blown away ANY long time halo fan would support pre game info.

If anything, emblems are too much as well. Show an orange square and get ready to fucking battle.

As a long time Halo fan, I think matchmaking should be done through pigeons.

People will quit regardless. 343 needs to create a better incentive for staying and make a social playlist or a list for no parties. Call of Duty manages to do this, so can Halo.

Is the Locke to Chief ratio still a hot button 'round these parts.

I dont know but I think it's a bit misleading after playing it... The chief missions are all really really long and some of the Locke missions take less then a minute so it's much more of a 40/60 split as opposed to the 20/80 split based on just the level count alone.

Not to mention that even the Osiris sections are still about what Chief is doing.

Social playlists and lone wolves playlists are among my most wanted/needed items for halo 5. I wholeheartedly agree.

People quit most often after their team falls down by a significant margin early. Do actually think this would improve if people could detect a potential mismatch before the game even begins? It would make the problem worse. People would be gone before the map loads.

Showing ranks is a no go, boys. It happens in League of Legends when people use tools to look up ranks of the other team. Right from the get go they are demoralized if they are up against higher ranks.

Please show a list of names, though.

I had no issue with the split.
Two of them were entirely talking missions.

343 is trying to future proof the series. Chief is 47 now (40-something biologically) and one of these days, he'll die. It's a good idea to put a successor in place.

No. You'd recognize better players and pros, etc.

Names are sometimes worse than ranks.

Yep and 343 needs to stop talking about their pro team. Halo was about embracing everyone, now they seem to only care about esports.

Thus far, I can say that Halo 4 was better than Halo 5. I played Halo 4 for a decent amount of time. Don't really care that it wasn't balanced or anything. The maps were better and gameplay was entertaining - particularly BTB. Personally, think that the pro team does more harm than help.

I was champion in slayer on my alt and you would get quite a bit of pros matching you. I ended up dropping into onyx pretty much because people started recognized emblems and once they saw who they were playing against at the start (or before) they'd leave instantly.

Just play the damn game.

You're in the minority here. Champion makes up 200 people total. Onyx are 1-2% of the player base. People who are gold, platinum, diamond don't care to that extent nor do they care about who they're matched against. I think because you're so high up you can recognize gamer tags and emblems.

What can you even see from emblems? I have a fucking strawberry as my emblem. I see people with default emblems. Oh no, gotta dashboard. You're really making this a bigger problem than it is. Quitting, dashboarding has never been greater than in this game, and it just shows that even making people go in blind won't stop the quitting.

So yeah, stop worrying about who you're up against, what emblem they have, what SR rank they have AND JUST PLAY THE DAMN GAME.

i dont have an issue with the two protagonists, nor do i with them eventually getting rid of cheif, but i think it needs to be done better than they have been in 5

Lol, take your own advice bud.

And like I mentioned earlier, my main landed in platinum. People do the same fucking thing at all ranks. They want to protect their precious ranks, and they WILL (and have) quit to do so.

More than a dozen times I can tell you we knew we matched a to4 that we previously played because of emblems. Hell, sometimes we know some good players we get matched with on diamond or platinum because their emblem.

Some thoughts on multiplayer:

Positives:

-60fps game play is solid
-The game looks beautiful
-The multiplayer in general is really fun. I love Strongholds, Slayer, and Capture The Flag.
-Regret and Truth are wonderful maps. I love the whole circular Covenant installation design.
-Warzone is insanely hectic and fun
-I've never spent a dime on Reqs (and probably never will) and I'm drowning in useful items that I've used multiple times in Warzone

Negatives:

-Too many of the maps look like industrial settings. We need more bright maps like Coliseum, Truth and Regret.
-Map rotation seems bugged. When I play in Team Arena, sometimes I will end up playing two matches in a row on the map Regret, for example
-I don't understand why Breakout mode only shows up on the simulation/blue maps. I can't play Breakout on Regret?
-We need more than 3 Warzone maps
-It shouldn't be possible for people playing dozens of hours to be punished by RNG and struggle to get certifications like DMR. Maybe make it level-based?

Montresor's suggestions to perfect this game:

*Let's get some more warzone maps
*Let's get more Arena maps and fix map rotation
*Add social playlists which have drop-in drop-out
*Add playlists which don't allow parties
*Make it so the current ranked playlist does not punish people who quit in a game in which 50% or more of your teammates have left.
*Make it so the new drop-in drop-out playlist does not penalize you with a loss if you join a losing match.
*Does this game require XBL for LAN? If so, get rid of that requirement. Call Rod Ferguson from The Coalition to find out how to convince Spencer and Nadella, if necessary.

Can you get booted by idling in Arena?

Pretty sure you do.

Yep. You get booted really quickly too.

Same for Warzone.
Hmm, I thought so. I really think they need to fix the issue where you don't actual leave the queue in mm. I got a ban last week and didn't know why and then occasional I'd come back to the "Wake up John" screen. I didn't connect the two until all the complaints about quitting started popping up. Could be anecdotal but I play pretty regularly and just this week started to notice it.

It's 4pm, decide I want to play some Warzone and I'm still getting into servers filled with Americans complaining that someone is "playing black music" and I can't kill anyone unless I sneak up behind them while they're asleep.

Did this only sell a dozen copies in Europe?

So do some of my fellow Halo players want to add me as a friend, and play with me on GAF servers? Please send me a message while you add me, so that I know who you are here on GAF.

This is why I am always in party chat. Fireteam chat is dumpster fire.

And it's not just Americans btw

I always used to get those snot nosed UK kids who'd call me the N-word or insult my mom all the time at night in West coast for games like H3, Reach or Halo 4. Couldn't understand a word they'd say either, sounded like Brad Pitt in Snatch.

Anyone else really miss the Plasma Rifle?

I know the Storm Rifle is basically the same, but it just doesn't look as cool and iconic. I think there's place for both, the plasma rifle should have been used by the Swords of Sanghelios, and the storm rifle by the Covenant.

I know everyone can be an arsehole, I'm literally describing what happened in the game I'm in right now.

The few times I've been in game chat it's been OK though, maybe I just got lucky. Two guys playing music over Kinect but that's it. Everyone else is either in party chat or trying to work together.

It's the region thing that is killing me, stops the game being fun at all.

Nobody trash talks like UK players.

Seriously.

The unbridled hatred they have for Americans is absolute gold- I miss the days of MW2 and hearing those guys on the reg.

Oh fair enough. Definitely a fucking annoyance, I agree.

I too am surprised at the number of 'foreign' players I come up against.

I am in the UK and at peak times (say between 6-10pm) I am typically matched with non UK/EU players.

Most games play OK, but then the odd one feels awful.

Have 343 said anything about us being able to choose a server?

My theory has always been that if a game is entertaining enough for pros, it's probably a game that will be entertaining enough for casuals as well. This is mostly because a game that caters to pros is going to have tight controls, deep game-play mechanics, and good level design. Just look at Halo Combat Evolved, Halo 2, and Halo 3. The 3 were embraced by "pros" more than Reach or Halo 4 ever were, and those first 3 halo games were by far more successful, at least in terms of public perception and also in terms of retaining player population. You bring up BTB in Halo 4, but BTB isn't even out for Halo 5 yet. I'd wait for that before arguing that "pros" are ruining Halo 5.

Midnight and I'm unable to find games again ffs.

11:40-finding games quickly.
12:20-impossible to find any games, keep getting an unable to match message.

What the hell?

American in the UK here. SO many cunts online. The best s the French though. Can't understand a lick of what's being said but the faster they talk the angrier they sound, lol!

Dont you remember in Halo 4!
The Librarian made Cheif IMMORTAL, he can still be killed but wont die from old age. HE IS THE SAVIOR.. haha jk

How about ban people that quit? Problem solved.

You cant stop people from leaving a game. Life happens. This isnt a problem in any other game ive played. Its only a problem in halo.

Well it's obvious whatever they decided just hasn't cut it. I mean I'm reading some people say they've quit up to 5 ranked matches and gotten nothing more than a 5 minute time out.from Arena. That's 5 different matches they've fucked up for everyone else. It's time to get draconian. If people don't like it, they can leave, go play CoD, Battlefront, shit up those communities.

Its a problem because of no join in progress but that is how it has to be. If quitting once leads to an automatic timeout than quitting will significantly reduce. Of course there will be some quitting still but it is out of hand right now.

Halo 1-3 was done without caring about what pros think. Bungie just made a good game with solid mechanics. Sakurai followed the same school of though with the Smash games. Right now, Halo 5 seems to be only catered to pros: horrible aiming system, map design is boring as fuck, no social playlists, custom games options have been cut significantly and even weekend playlists have ranks.

Honestly, I am just tired about hearing what the pro team is doing at 343. Finally, I never said they are ruining Halo, but they are certainly taking it into a specific direction. I'm a super competitive player, but don't see how Halo 5 will retain the casual crowd for long.

Quitting once should be a 20 minute ban.

Quit twice -> an hour. Quit three times in a day -> day ban.

Fuck quitters.
