Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

Actually the good news is that they're not. But the bad news for you is they are getting better and adjusting to new stuff. And skill matchmaking will continue to improve naturally and with input and Uncle BadTouch from us.

Lots of issues being discussed in this thread right now and they're all things we're looking at or already addressing.

And word on game chat in the lobbies being fixed soon?

Also I want to say, while there are definitely a good number of issues, the game just feels soooo good.

The weapons(ALL OF THEM!) feel soooooo good. And you made the movement what Brink was trying to be and it's really responsive.

Hope you guys figure it all out, could be something really special.

There's also a lot of strategies and team efforts that have developed over the week. Some of them, when done well, annihilate the other team with great effect.

I get no love from my friends because I am not good at multiplayer even though I love to play. Just call me Noble 6 (Lone wolf) ;_;

I don't agree with everything you said but I do agree that the fun has been lost in regards to the maps. Older maps, you might be playing in a human city, you might play next in ancient caverns, next in an alien ship, a forest after that. There was a lot of variation and each map felt like it had a story behind it, and you just stumbled into it.

Now? Boxy urban environment. Boxy urban environment. Boxy urban environment. Oh look, an alien ship, because it's a remake. Back to boxy urban environment.

The gameplay is great but the maps don't have that flamboyant fancy anymore that made them fun to be in. I don't wander around them anymore wondering "What is this supposed to be" or "what would that be used for."

It's like they designed the maps 100% around the gameplay making them feel more like basketball courts than actual environments. It feels contrived. Good map design is deigned around gameplay while still tricking the player into feeling like it's coincidence. The best work is invisible.

I think the new map with the most mood right now is Fathom due to the ambient noise and being surrounded by alien whales. That's the only one where I really stopped to look around, especially out the windows. I feel like I could be in a real environment that has a purpose.

Yeah, the only maps i actually looks around in was Fathom and the plaza. Plaza just a little bit once i figured out how small it was lol.

I freaked out once when i spawned looking straight out a window where it curved in fathom. Thought i spawned under the map or something and was about to die LOL.

It sucks and it's happened to me, but

Spawn at Home Base
Choose Vehicle REQ
Safe Spawn

So if my team controlled the fortress/garage and I used your method, would the vehicle spawn at the home Base? It's annoying when you pick a vehicle req while waiting to respawn and you can't pick the spawn location

I think he's saying spawn first, then go to a REQ machine and request the vehicle.

It's interesting that people complain about the AR starts and the AR being too powerful and people complain about this game abandoning it's casual fanbase.

This weapon balance combined with a ranking system that groups players based on skill levels makes me think this feel like the most accessible halo yet.

I get the "traffic cone" complaints though, it feels like there is no natural playlist if you just want to play some silly non-competitive games that focus on hilarious random moments over skill right now. I hope we get a rocket race weekend after forge hits, but for now I'd be happy with an Action Sack playlist. Don't care if it's ranked as long as it's silly.

I love the BTB but it’s not with a playlist with only forge maps that they will bring back a lot of people. Still it’s not the point I love Team slayer it’s just we don’t have social playlist, we don’t have diversity, I miss KOTH, Oddball, Ricochet, Grifball, Infection, Bomb, even race (Rocket race was awesome!) action sack (will it be possible to do an action sack playlist in H5?).

Halo 5 seems to have lost them. There is also no life in the maps, you know no boxes at all or interaction everything is “static” again calibrated and made to be pro.
So basically we will never have things like this (halo 3 traffic cone ownage
): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ym0BtwmCvoc or Jenga Tower tower etc.

Do you see my point?

Also the playlist are incredibly poor and basic atm, no multi team, double team, objective playlist, infection etc. the shooty sniper was the playlist that I enjoyed most in the MP until now personally.
And as much as I like the new gameplay features this is also one of the reason that make the game super hardcore, I would like to have a classic team slayer playlist with no abilities or sprint It will be really super fun I'm sure!
Btw I know they will add some new weapons like the pistol of Halo CE, with things like that in the past I could do a slayer CE in H5 and it will be so damn fun but seems that the legendary weapons will be only for Warzone (I guess to have some money from the micro transaction).

The sandbox is so huge and we could so much with so many variants of weapons but we can’t :/ such a shame even prophet bane was removed from Truth from the beta :(

I don't wander around them anymore wondering "What is this supposed to be" or "what would that be used for." It's obvious that a shitload of detail is just thrown everywhere to make it look good and that none of it does anything. There's no illusion.

It's like they designed the maps 110% around only the gameplay making them feel more like basketball courts than actual environments. It feels contrived. Good map design is designed around gameplay while still tricking the player into feeling like it's coincidence. The best work is invisible.

That's the only one where I really stopped to look around, especially out the windows. I feel like I could be in a real environment that has a purpose. It's not perfect though. I still look at a lot of the stuff in there and think "This clearly serves no purpose whatsoever."

Yep, you two hit the nail on the head and I've been saying this for a while. Map design needs to be synergy between aesthetics and balance.

All of them being like a basketball court is a perfect analogy.

Thanks Frankie for the feedback really appreciate.

Right now I need to have fun on the game.
When I come back from work sometime I want play games just to relax on with friends, sometime play pro competitive. Atm I have only one choice play good and pro.

I think the game REALLY need these atm:
- a social team slayer playlist with drop in/drop out.
- a casual playlist like Infection I believe
- bro spawn in Warzone
- a bit of BR start in the slayer playlist
- 3 sec respawn in SWAT

I don't think they could have bro spawns. what would happen when attacking bases is one person would basically hide / crouch camp so the remainder of the team could spawn on them as required. The rest I agree with though.

So if my team controlled the fortress/garage and I used your method, would the vehicle spawn at the home Base? It's annoying when you pick a vehicle req while waiting to respawn and you can't pick the spawn location

I think he's saying spawn first, then go to a REQ machine and request the vehicle.

Yes spawn first then choose vehicle REQ at home base.

I think if you select the Home Base first then choose your vehicle REQ then spawn it also works. I'm not 100% on this other one though, I haven't played in a couple of days because of work/school.

That Scorpion spawn kill was hilarious but I would be so upset if that was me.

Another thing I've noticed is how when teams are winning by an overwhelming margin ( like 900 to 400), a bunch of people from the winning team bring out tanks and Banshees near the end of the match. It feels like such a waste. Youre gonna win anyways why bother wasting your rare vehicle REQs.

Casual, core and Hardcore are leaving the game because the game is simply too much hardcore and not funny anymore. Everything is made to play good for Pro players but they are simply a small player base.
I play since CE each Halo games, even Halo 4 at the heart was a Halo game but with a different skin on the top but I enjoyed the MP and new things like ricochet that was amazing but H5...

I already gave up and went back on MCC for now until Star Wars, I will just come back for new gametypes like BTB and other (if there are? because I'm not sure actually to see back oddball or infection tbh) and maps.

I like the gameplay but there is not anymore the fun of Halo in it. The maps are very poor without inspiration, I don't see vehicles anymore except in Warzone and even here you take a warthog it’s impossible to find someone to go on the turret first (why there is no BRO Spawn like In REACH?) and if there someone to come with you, you die super quick.

+ Warzone is really the “Pay to Win gametype”, this gametype could be a F2P someday it will not even surprise me, I really preferred he invasion in Reach as example. I would also prefer to pay a season pass than having Micro transactions. I really hate that you have to use a card for a weapon/vehicles (LOL).

H5 wanted be for the pro and competitive only so his player base will reflect that because if hardcore fans of Halo like myself feel this (I’m Inheritor on Reach, got more than 11000XP in Halo 3, General five stars 2x in Halo Wars and I don’t count Halo 2 classic, MCC & Halo 4) well that’s not reassuring and I see more and more people thinking this.

Now Black Ops 3 is release I don’t like it and don’t plan to buy it so it does not impact me but for sure this will impact the player base of H5 at least for all the casuals, then Star Wars will come and it will also affect the player base and after that maybe even a little Rainbow Six: Siege.

Halo in the past was competitive, fun and for everyone with millions of sandbox possibilities now it’s only for a very niche player base that love the slayer ranked…
This is so sad because I really like 343i staff, the core of H5 gameplay and what they did before (MCC etc.) I even bought the legendary edition with the statue but the MP annoy me.

A halo fan lost :/

Really nice post and i have to agree with this. I have the same feeling. Halo 5 just feels way too "Hardcore" for me. There is no middleground.

I really miss all the different playlists and styles. I miss Social. I miss a proper good looking EXP Rank system like H3 and Reach had.
I really hate almost all Maps from Halo 5. They all look cluttered and play really bad IMO.

I abandoned Halo 5 a week ago. Couldnt stand it anymore. Everyone takes every match super MLG, like im fighting for 10k bucks or something. Im really not in the mood anymore for this. I like ranked from time to time. But thats not enough.
Halo 5 really doesnt offer much for the Casual/Social side of Halo. I got bored of Warzone really fast.

It really doesnt have this halo magic anymore for me. Its just meh.

Already bought Black Ops 3 and i have way more fun there. And im waiting just like you for Battlefront. That game felt nice to me. Made for everyone.

I will maybe check the game out again in december, But i will probably just stay at Battlefront and CoD.

alternatively vehicles could generate a small EMP field on spawn to pop shields within a certain radius weakening potential camping enemies - but wouldn't affect anyone long range. I'm also agreeing with the comments that H5 needs some less rank-focused competitive MP. Arena and Warzone are both great but they do feel like they can wear you down after a while.

This is especially true if you are in a group of randoms and are consistently getting paired against full/almost full teams.

The 2 biggest issues for me with this game is the quitting and the sterile, uninspired maps in arena. Only a handful of them are okay to me and that's the Rig, Plaza, Truth, and Empire. They have various things in them that make them looked lived in or a real place. This issue was talked about at length so many times and then we end up getting BTB maps that look even more sterile because they're all created in forge.

If they don't start putting in maps that have that feel that Halo has always had I won't be sticking around for much longer. I can like the gameplay all I want, but if I don't like the places I do that gameplay in the fun factor won't last long. Thing is I don't even see a willingness to fix that aspect of it, they messed up by focusing on the pro aspect of the map designs without considering anything else.

Yeah, they haven't acknowledged map design once. It's funny that their best map (Truth) is a remake from Halo 2. Halo 4 had some good maps as well. Sure, it wasn't the most balanced, but it was a fun game in its own right.

Lots of issues being discussed in this thread right now and they're all things we're looking at or already addressing.

Things I would like to see added or changed. Mostly UI stuff.

The ability to see gamer tags and Spartans in MM lobby.
The Halo 3 hit x to party up after the game feature.
The ability to see my medals after the game.
An in game leader board.
In game Spartan Company options.
More information on when when will rank up. Something like the beta had.
The Rig deleted from the game.

Being hardcore and accessible are not mutually exclusive. Look at CSGO for instance, I feel like Halo 5 took some pointers from that game. REQ packs have similarities to the weapon skins, barring an actual market for them.

Are we going to see an Arena playlist with an emphasis on vehicles and larger combat areas anytime soon? Things like Turf, Zanzibar, Burial Mounds, etc - things that supported 16 players, but worked perfectly fine with 8 - with multiple vehicles (Warhogs, Ghosts, Mongoose, etc).

I've accepted I'll never get the "BTB of ol'" back; but Id still really like vehicular warfare and teamwork.

EDIT: Cause, when I'm thinking of the current maps in Arena, I seriously can't even imagine using a vehicle in such tight confinement.

I agree with everything except removing Rig. I like it.

I think Halo 5 maps are leaps and bounds better than Halo 4 maps aside Haven.

I agree - I never thought I'd say it, but Halo 5 really does feel like it's taken some heavy influence from CS - in a good way, for sure. But I wish that was "on top of" what makes Halo... Halo. Instead, a lot of what I enjoyed seems replaced by CS influence.

EDIT: Also, I still don't understand why there are power weapons in Breakout.

There is a market for them, it's just that it's a one-sided one and based on RNG.

I do think console holders should start experimenting with an actual, open two-sided market where they take a cut off the top from transactions between users like Valve does. Let us sell our Rare, Legendary, Unique drops, and take 20% off the top. Hell, take 30%.

Seems to me like it might be better to create a new market you get a cut of than try to increase the RPU directly through microtransactions, if they can make it work?

1. I think they took that out on purpose to deter immediate quits
2. Yes, I forgot how nice that feature was
3. Can't you see that in the post-game stats? Maybe not. If you really care that much. Waypoint?
4. Sure.
5. Yes. Right now, Spartan Companies are really pointless.
6. Doesn't the game have little "tick" marks under your rank badge? Maybe not.
7. Rig is one of the better maps IMO, although I'm sure if you looked at a heat map, I bet 80% of the "heat" would be near the catwalk/basement areas.

Honestly? You say you don't like it but you haven't bought it? I'm not one to defend CoD but BO3's multiplayer is fantastic, and better than Halo 5's multiplayer in its current state. Spawns are so much worse in H5, and the maps are just no good unless you are playing Breakout. Breakout is amazing, and the maps are phenomenal. The gunplay is Halo 5 may be better but the fundamentals and usage of the spawns and maps are inferior to that of BO3. I just HATE it when people say they don't like a game and haven't tried it. You may have played the beta and that's fine but that was a beta.

Halo 5 is something different to me. I've played it plenty to have an opinion on it and I will pick it up for myself around christmas time. I've played at least 20 hours of just straight Multiplayer with my friend. I've never liked Halo before, but Halo 5 feels so great to play. The thrusters and the ground slams are great but there are some serious flaws in the map design, and spawns. The thing about Breakout is that you always spawn in the exact same, and the maps are essentially symmetrical to a tee so none of the problems that persist outside of Breakout come into play. I would say that Breakout as a whole beats BO3's multiplayer but I can't because that's not the whole.

I would never expect a company to talk negatively about their own product, especially this close to launch. That would be ridiculous. Besides, it's not like they did bad work, there's just huge room for improvement and growth.

All I hope for is that they're silently watching posts like these and deciding behind the scenes to give us more varied and less contrived maps in the future. I know Stinkles is constantly cruising around these parts and I imagine a few more employees as well, whether they post or not.

Though I decided that it was kind of sad that the guy cannot post anywhere on these forums without being called out to answer dev questions so I decided that in the future I'd only ever ask him something Halo related during normal business hours and I consider him off the clock on nights and weekends. During those hours he's just a fucking nerd like everyone else here. I sure as shit don't want work bothering me on the weekend.

I've had the same thought. We have small non-vehicle maps now. We're promised large BTB vehicle maps in the future. But what of the more medium sized games? I think some of the best Halo has to offer has been medium-sized with a few vehicles thrown in.

Can't someone just not like the COD MP formula? The beta should be enough to know if that formula works for you. Maybe he's played it at a friends house...

Why does someone have to buy the game to know whether they like it or not?

Played a bit this morning and got to p5, things are going better than I expected at this rate. Felt like I lost a lot more.

Reach's DLC maps are probably my favorite multiplayer maps of all time. Seeing them brings back so many memories, pls become backwards compatible quickly.

Halo maps. Art. Pls.

Get back to maps looking like this. This is just Reach too (and CEA).

Yes I know a couple of those are FF maps. Still. THE ART.

I may not have liked the gameplay design of some of those maps but damn they were pretty and interesting looking indeed. Good inspiration for 343 art department going forward.

I liked them too. It hurts that they didn't show up very often. Be cool to do another take on the Highlands theme in Warzone...

I have conistently been playing Warzone and loving it, I have seen a couple of friends who were playing Halo 5 have been on Black Ops 3 lately.

As far as people leaving, matchmaking still throws me in a match super quick so all is good.

Following up on the Campaign discussion yesterday, I do feel like I need to highlight my campaign time since I was worried about it:

UTn7RtW.png

I think that's the longest Halo campaign so far for me doing Heroic for the first time, so there we go.

You cant stop people from leaving a game. Life happens. This isnt a problem in any other game ive played. Its only a problem in halo.
How about this? Life does indeed happen, and if it pulls you away from the game, well, you're not around to play again immediately, right? Don't punish quitters who leave and stay gone, but an instant 20 minute ban for those who quit, and promptly start up again. Fuck those guys.

I think that's the longest Halo campaign so far for me doing Heroic for the first time, so there we go.

Legendary solo first time around took me about 16.5 hours. That being said, I spent a lot of time trying to break maps and collecting intel / skulls (got about 4 skulls and ~70 pieces of intel in my initial run), though I also cheesed a couple of fights, in particular the
triple Warden battle.

I have both and I keep finding myself coming back and playing more Halo. I don't agree that the spawns are much worse in Halo compared to BO3. I've had horrible spawns in both. That's one of the things that makes me quit playing BO3 is spawn take a step and die. Usually when the spawns are flipping or someone is camping.

I do agree with breakout. Love it when people aren't quitting at the beginning of the match.

What I do think BO3 beats Halo in is just the shear number of modes, maps, stats, and presentation. 343 really dropped the ball on this. Feels pretty bare bones and why I swap between the two games.

One other thing, why are we spawning with 2 grenades? Especially in strongholds. I can't tell you how many times I see people just spawn and pitch their grenades at the objective. No thought what so ever. Also, get grenades on spawn out of breakout. Someone always dies from grenades thrown on opening encounter in that game type. On map? Yes. On spawn? No.

Yeah I'm not finding it an issue in Arena, but in Warzone dropping spawn grenades to 1 would help mitigate the spam.

Halo 5 maps are really weak and boring..How can they come up with these maps after 3 years of working on this game..I mean what were you thinking when you were making maps like Orion,Plaza..I constantly play on the plaza over and over again..WTH man..Bring back voting system and make sure that Colliseum come more often..I am really bored of current maps.

I've always thought that Breakout shoudnt have any grenades or powerups whatsoever. A straight up one life shooting match, no lucky nades, no powerup advantages. The gameplay reduced to only its core.
