Well, technically, it wasn't released even in the EU (the first region to receive the game) by the time of the Digital Event 2015. However, the review copies were long dispatched... and it was still stupid.

I believe it's normal to delay the announcement a bit. Besides, was refering to the official statement from Nintendo

Miyamoto said Pikmin 4 is "almost finished" but did not mention for what system. No idea bout Rogue Squadron.
Honestly expected but still nice to see coming.
My bets for the direct are the following:
-Mario Tennis Ultra Smash getting new game modes announced + additional character coming through free updates throughout 2015-2016.
-New line of Super Mario Amiibo shown off; Wario, Roselena, Dry Bowser, Waluigi, Daisy and more coming this fall with the Mario Tennis's launch
-Release dates + more footage of Mario & Luigi Paper Jam and Metroid Federation Force (with it having a single player mode where you play as Samus, hopefully)
-More footage of Animal Crossing amiibo Festival and new amiibo for the game announced
-Xenoblade X footage shown off of new areas + new trailer
-Star Fox Zero having new footage, new amiibo line introduced (Fox, Falco, Slippy and Pepper), and the game getting pushed back to April for more polishing
-Zelda U gets its official name, new gameplay footage, new mechanics shown off, release date and promising of frequent updates on the title over the next few months
-Other localization of Nintendo JP titles (Rythem Heaven, Pi cross, ect) get announced for western release
-Twlight Princess and Thousand Year Door get HD Remasters for Wii U next year; former comes out before Star Fox Zero (February 2016) while the latter comes out in the summer (June/July)
-Yo-Kai Watch 2 and Busters announced for localization next year for 3DS
-Dragon Quest 3DS titles (Dragon Quest 8 and 7 3DS) get localized on 3DS in 2016
-Dragon Quest XI coming to Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS in the West, but release date not given
-Sonic gets an amiibo series; works with Smash Bros, Lost World Wii U, the upcoming Mario & Sonic, and an unannounced Sonic game coming in the future
-More Sonic news: A bunch of titles in the series come to Wii U through DS (Rush series, Colors DS), GBA (Advance Trilogy, Battle, Pinball Party), and Wii (Colors, Zero Gravity, Black Knight) VC
-Sonic Unleashed, Generations, 4 Ep. I & II, and the Taxman ports (1, 2, CD) all come to Wii U next year
-Show closes with new trailers for #FE (with early 2016 release date), Pikmin 4 announcement, Mario Maker DLC and Smash Bros Character Poll Winners being announced.
That is expecting too much, but they have to start swinging soon!
That would make it the bestest Direct of all time! Bonus points if they reveal Zelda U's main theme
At E3, Woolly World hadn't released anywhere. And E3 was a Digital Event, not a Nintendo Direct. The last Direct was the Nintendo Direct Micro on June 1st.

- Launch trailer for AC:Amiibo Party
- Jibanyan free DLC neighbor for AC: Happy Home for December.
- Tennis trailer with minor new footage of the unlockable characters.
- Mario Amiibo series 2, Toadette, Waluigi, DK, Dry Bowser, Bowser Jr, Wario and Rosalina.
- New Star Fox Zero trailer with a release date announced, focuses on Star Wolf with Fox, Falco, Slippy, Peppy, Wolf and Arwing "Zero" Amiibo announced. Wolf exclusive to a bundle. Amiibo unlock new skins for your arwing (Fox: Dark Green, Falco: Orange, Peppy: Red, Slippy: Dark Blue, Wolf: "Wolfen" colored, Arwing: Gold)
- Federation Force won't be mentioned at all, is quietly being retooled after the negative reception
- "Big Surprise" Twilight Princess HD coming to the eShop in December and a retail release next year.
- Some time spent on new updates to games (fairly rapid announcements, more explained in press releases later)
- Mario Maker free update for December announced, adds Athletic theme and some new shake items like slopes and lava pits (shake blocks and fire bars). Also a new row of Amiibo costumes coming, Ryu, Roy, Shovel Knight, Dry Bowser, alternate ROB and a few more "unannounced Amiibo." Tease of playable Luigi coming Winter 2016.
- Splatoon update with Octolings and a new chapter in single player where you play as an Octoling, and it's also how you unlock them. Octoling Amiibo announced (one of the other Mario Maker new costumes). Comes with Octoling themed single player missions.
- Smash DLC, two new stages, Mii costumes and two new characters. Wolf and a ballot character. Two more characters announced (not shown, just announced the number) coming early 2016 to end character DLC, "but Smash updates won't necessarily stop" says Sakurai.

Like honestly even if we only get like 2 interesting things the fact we're getting a new Direct after 5 months makes this a joyous occasion. Live it up! Last one of 2015!

The least they can do is heavily show off the game for Wii U owners, considering its likely coming to NX first (if its cross-gen like Twilight Princess and like that game, the 'new' version comes out first with the 'last-gen' version coming out latter).I'm chili. It's just that it's nice to be able to look forward to something Nintendo related after too damn long.

What about the 3ds?
Remember when Factor-5 was making a Wii collection of their Rouge Squarden games but that being scrapped for reasons? Well, what if Nintendo has a version of that, worked something out with Lucasfilm/Disney/EA, and is releasing that as an Wii U exclusive with touched up visuals, 1080p and online MP
?That would be a great way to push the Star Wars brand on Nintendo consoles and hopefully that does happen.

A shitty attempt at a 3D flying game & a game that's basically Luke's journey through the original trilogy.
You can't beat the E3 direct. Unless they announce going full 3rd party.

The announcement has stated that we will receive the information on new Wii U and 3DS games. So, even if there will be no JP Direct, expect at least some localizations.
