Hi everyone,

Was enjoying the game last night up until a point where the game glitched at the sanctuary side mission where you have to crop the foods. I picked up an array of carrot flowers & mutroots to plant for the 5 person requirement but the options were greyed out in menu when I went to plant them in the small piece of land behind the house where the work benches are situated.

Does anyone know if this is a glitch? I don't fancy starting the game again from pretty much the start as I've put about 2 hours into it already where my last main save is with a lot of recent quick saves.

Sounds like they aren't the items you can plant. Carrotflowers don't work, carrots do.

Off the top of my heat it's Carrots, Corn, Tato, Melon, Razorgrain and Mutfruit.

Eh, I don't see the complaints about having no skill points considering many people also asked for the changes. The game still has plenty of stat checks. Bethesda made a balanced compromise, many people complained that in the other games that being also a shooter, having too many stat checks/having certain stats determine accuracy too much deterred from the gun play itself, missing a shot even very close up when playing it more like a shooter didn't feel right. There wasn't really a balance between the two forms of play. Now, they have a compromise on balancing between those who want it more of a shooter than those that also want it with more stats/skills. There is a balance since this was one of the many complaints of previous games any ways, Bethesda listened to this feedback. It being first person in any case means it needs this balance, if you want heavy stat checks its better to do a game like Fallout and Fallout 2, but it being first person as it is, it needs balance between the two. In my opinion I think it's a good balanced change since I also played them in a style straddling both forms of gameplay when I felt like it, many people do.

I'm not a fan of how skills were merged with perks.

Feels like we just ended up with a ton of boring "plus damage/health/defense/resistance/whatever" perks and only a small handful of interesting or wacky ones, whereas we had a bunch of those in the earlier games.

The perks are very clear cut (you know exactly how much more damage you'll inflict with each perk etc), which is good. The skills were a bit ambiguous, but even this would have been easily fixed by just showing exactly the math going on in the background in the skill screen (like guns would display "dmg = (skillpoints + bonuses) / enemy def" or something similar etc)

e: I wonder if respecing through the console fucked something up. I've got experience points maybeeeee 50+ times now, and Idiot Savant hasn't procced once.

I was soooo stupid skipping all those wonderglue and duck tapes all this time. And I need them badly for the adhesives now.
Don't follow my mistake, gaf.

You can tag materials from the crafting bench if they are a component of a mod you want. They when in the world they will appear with a magnifying glass icon next to their name. Means you can easily loot only what you know you want at that time.

Personally I would have preferred if perks were either all whacky and silly or just straight up buffs to base combat ability (because if they're all whacky then it matters less or if they're all combat buffs, picking one is more straightforward). All the subdivisions of weaponry for perks is a bit absurdist when there are also perks that you can spend one point on to build a weapon mod that might effectively double your damage.

I wish Wild Wasteland made a comeback. =/

Also

get the Scrapper perk IMMEDIATELY

I went from being starved of material to being able to maxe out my guns

Honestly the only perks I am finding worth dumping points into is the gathering/crafting/hacking/lockpicking ones

Crafted guns/armor cover any other deficiencies your character may have

The perk were you can breathe under water/ not get be effected by rads in water is great as well.

Cool. good tip. Will invest in this as soon as I get in from work. I'm just about to level up anyway so saves me agonising over what to do next. Already have the hacking and lock-picking perks.

yeah that one's on my list as well.

Good building placement.

Also, in that very same alleyway if you sprint you just suddenly die for no reason, tested it 3 times and it did it every time.

PC reviews on Amazon are pretty crazy. It's at a 2-star.

A lot of the people reviewing the game are complaining about the disc only having 5gb of data on it

Plus there are reviews like this:

The game is not actually on the disc. It's some virus of a platform called, "Steam"(-ing pile of crap) that allows you to download the game using a product code. I'm still waiting for the game to download, and it's been over three hours (it's currently at 12%). My internet speed is actually pretty good, so it must be a problem with the platform. I would not have purchased this in PC format had I known it would be this problematic.

So I just reached South Boston. Holy poop! I got these weapons
a rocket launcher, a flame thrower and a bunch of weapons with night vision attachments
, and saw these two generic enemies
an epic super mutant which was the size of a large building and a suicide bombing super mutant, who blew himself up with a mini-nuke
. I also saw this happening
the Brotherhood of Steel going around in lots of planes blowing mutants and raiders up
. Unbelievably epic area. I had to leave as it was wayyyyy too dangerous (and I'm playing on Very Easy).

Enjoying this so far on PS4. Graphics look really nice to me, loving the exploration and atmosphere. Performance has been fine for me, a few stutters and the odd frame rate drop, but generally perfectly smooth. I've had one glitch where I got stuck in the pipboy menus whilst in power armour and had to quit out to get it working again though.

I'm not quite sold on the 200 years in the future thing though, using Sanctuary as an example it certainly doesn't look or feel like 200 years have passed, looks like maybe 20 years.

Just been doing the first couple of missions and pottering around in the immediate area around Vault 111. Haven't even started building yet, but like Robbaz, I'll probably build a home base around Red Rocket.

I want to ask it again is it a good idea to store items in stuff you made?

Edit:Nvm I got it.

Sure. Should be safe there. I have some things stored in Sanctuary in a desk and in my House in Diamond City. Nothing was stolen (if that is eveb possible)

Im just worried ive seen 1/4 of the map already and ive only just begun.

Do enemies respawn? Just curious how we can level up past 50. Do interiors respawn?

You sure you discovered EVERYTHING in that 1/4? Im sure ive also "discovered" 1/4 of the map already in my 14 hours but theres A LOT I didnt look into. For example I just discovered the first vault and left it behind for now. Im sure the vaults will be huge. A lot of buildings have multiple floors including larger basements so theres way more to discover than just the map itself suggests.

To be honest I never knew and still dont know how exactly respawning works in Fallout games but whenever I walk back to a cleared location enemies are still dead so I guess theres no respawning.

I'm stuck at the "First Step" quest. I've killed a lot of raiders inside the power plant but now I don't where the last one is... I'm searching inside the building but I really can't find anyone :/
Glitch ? Or hidden door somewhere ?

Did you go up on the outer parts? Go up the stairs outside of the factory as well as the stairs to the left of the alley with the blown up cars. I had similar confusion with this part.

Is there a way to scrap your junk, without dropping them on the ground and manually scrap one by one?

Also, if your Settlement gets attacked, can your built stuff or side quests characters get destroyed/ killed?

In Bethesda's games, respawns typically happen after 3-30 in-game days, if you do not visit the area ("cell"). So, clear dungeon A, and stay away for 30 days and it should have respawned. Visiting it before enough time has passed resets the respawn timer. At least that's the basic idea in Skyrim, since FO4 has the same engine, i'd imagine it works the same way.

I'm literally not sure I like my character! Things like this bug me. I'm not too far to re-do it. I just... For some reason need my characters to look perfect and I could spend forever trying.

According to a loading screen note (maybe spoilers? I don't know, just in case):

you can change the face at a plastic surgeon

Yeah I'm wondering how this works too. I have a decently sized and defended compound built up in Sanctuary, protecting two power suits. I have traps and turrets as well as the settlers who live there, but will people come through and try to steal my shit?

Do you know where I can get Carrots outside of the sanctuary? I must have been reading it wrong as if what you say is true, then I just collected loads of plants. The mutfruit is pickable like an apple, so why is that not plantable for me? I found loads of them in the shrubbery outside the housing estate but none of them planted when I wanted them to. It just comes up as greyed out.

I wish I had known there are only like, 2 radiation-type weapons in the game before I took the perk to make them better.
There aren't really a lot of "types" of weapons in the game, tbh. Mostly a few weapons with lots of mods on top of them. Finding ammo will be the real challenge with radiation weapons.
That's a curse in this game :)
It's a curse until mods come out. Waiting for modders to fix Bethface is tough.

I'm glad it gives us the option to redo it before leaving the vault at least

I had the exact same issue as you. Waypoint was useless in this, took me a while to figure it out (maybe I'm just a scrub tho lol)

Go to the big room inside the plant that had the machine gun turret. There's two doors you can go thru in a wall, one leading to the turret and one that's a hallway. Go through the hallway. You should find an elevator and stairs with a painted arrow on the wall pointing up. Both take you to the same place

This also rather annoys me. I only sorta paid attention to the game and it looked like it was going to be shortly after the war as you were there before it began, which I thought would be a nice change. Instead it's still 200 years later, and everything is still dead and brown for no reason. The game is by Boston...200 years after you wiped out most people you'd be looking at a massive forest covering the entire area, and the human population would actually have rebounded significantly, regardless of hardships.

FO3 all over again (at least the sky is blue this time). I already want a greenification mod... At least with NV you were by Vegas, so the brown made sense.

That being said, it doesn't really bug me that much, I just wish they'd either gone for a setting right after the war or made the setting properly New England that long after the war for a change of pace.

Need to be more specific. Does it show as you not having any of them in your inventory when you're planting them under resources?

Carrots I think I just found randomly at another settlement. Most places with people tend to have veggies you can harvest and then plant yourself. But they are generally the one I've found the least.

Also IIRC there should be some food growing by default in Sanctuary. There were melons growing for me already, I started the quest with "30 percent completed." You can harvest the currently growing melons and replant them for a small boost up.

This at the top of my page:

So how do yea do it?

this help?

You can only manually scrap weapons and armour.

Bethesda should really have explained this simple mechanic, as it's a constant source of confusion.

Oh that does make it easier.

Yea I've killed some raiders outside the building. I've even followed a tunel that lead outside (there are raiders and ghouls here). Killed everyone but the game still didn't validate the objective :/

Ooooh ok thanks ! x)

GOTY as expected.

- all locations have their own "feel". The use of colors and light seems planned to a great extent.

- I love how the game extends in altitude. I like that every settlement has one or two sniper nests to engage enemies or to inspect your surroundings. I went Piz Palu on the first raider gang I've met and it was fun as hell.

- the AI is amazing. Watching Dogmeat dive into rubble and buildings for minutes and coming out without getting stuck a single time, or watching enemies sprinting through a maze of ledges and corridors to chase you, surround you, and climbing to get an height advantage is incredible. IMPRESSIVE work.

- the background music. Leaps and bounds better than Fallout 3, and perfect to set the mood in every situation.

- fun to play as a third person shooter. I like how unique weapons really look completely different than the standard and the modded ones.

- proportions of settlements. Cities and towns look more believable. It's confusing at first but I really like the fact that "towns" aren't limited to five houses and two families like 3.

- dialogue system. People dislike it and I don't know why: not only you aren't locked in view so that you can look around while people talk your ears off, the new system is snappy and essential. Voice actors do a great job and facial expressions are well executed. I really hope they stick to this system for the next Elder Scroll.

- "style". Characters are very recognizable by the way they dress, their voice and their mannerisms. Lots of little details in their attire and their behaviour.

- surprised to see Bethesda flawlessly integrate some of Obsidian additions in NV. And the settlements are so easy to manage I kind of feel bad to stick to exploration most of the times. Kind of. XD

- Lady Killer perk seems pretty useful. Everytime I get to a new settlement I'm like "oh, look: GIRLS!" with a smirk on my face.

- ENEMIES' CHATTER. Arkham games level of fun and believability here. The taunts they scream and the way they coordinate with each other to surround you is so cool!

- Psycho activations! First time I used it I laughed so hard I ended up coughing.

- the little stories told at each shack by the items and the surroundings. They tried this in the previous games but it didn't work as good as it does here. Props, Mr. Howard. Props.

There are named enemies to kill inside, did you kill them? They are in a sort of raised platform that is hard to reach, you have to sort of jump to it. It's the room where you can activate the Protectron.

Found it hard to figure out how to get to them at first as it seemed like the jump wasn't doable from a glance.

Most of them are complaining about buying a physical copy on PC and still needing to download the majority of the game from Steam and they rated it 1 or 2 stars. Granted, if you are buying it not to download most of the game it's a valid complaint.

I feel sorry for people who suffer from bandwidth issues. I used to be on 2MB for nearly 8 years until my ISP only recently got a fiber line out where I live last October. It would have taken me at least 2/3 days to download Fallout 4 alone, not including any of the patches that precede the main game.

I just learned by accident that the game now has a cover system? For e.g if you stand by a door way out of the way and then aim down your weapon, you will peek around the corner.

Yep few years ago I was also on a bad connection at a point.. It must be frustrating when this happens to those that have bad connections, why do the console versions not need to download most of the game (AFAIK) but PC does? Guess because they wanted to keep their costs down and put it on a single DVD.

How many posts do you have showing? I have 100ppp.

Probably due to the fact that the consoles use bluray whereas most PCs don't. Most only have DVD which is 5GB. Though they could have done what GTAV did and give you like 5 DVDs.

I don't think it's particularly impressive they've finally gotten basic pathfinding to work lol

Without a doubt. The way everything is placed is amazing.
The museum mannequins, the skeletons in the tub..the Workhouse...little stories everwhere

Different users have different numbers of posts per page settings if they want. Don't know why that guy would assume it's at the same part of the page for everyone...
