Wow! I'm so fucking stupid! This whole time I thought weapon upgrades were tied to weapons once attached to them! NOPE.

So all those weapons I left on the ground early game? I could've picked them up, stripped the mods off, and placed them on my favorite weapons.

:(

This is about the 2nd Minutemen quest

I went there right away after helping the Minutemen get back to Sanctuary. I'm level 5 now and have cleared out what seems like every enemy but there's still apparently one or two lurking somewhere since the quest hasn't finished. I assume it's a very finite completion solely based on killing them all and there isn't some sort of item or something I've just missed?

Ok, I had this problem as well and then realized that there is an elevator inside the factory that will take you to the main assembly floor. This is where the boss is hanging out. Kill the boss and the quest will complete. The elevator is a white door, and there is a stair well next to the elevator that will take you up as well.

Do you know what I have to do for the next step? The defense one?

I got into defenses and build some, but the bar just doesn't progress and I don't have or know where to get the circuitry and other components for the turrets.

You have to assign a villager to any of the reinforcements you place or it won't count.

Sorry for asking this again but does anyone notice how big the analog stick dead zone is on the PS4? It's pretty awful and is really hurting my enjoyment.

Any way to fix this? Did I miss a setting somewhere/

Can you scrap the material you need like steel and wood from your junk? I have so much weight in junk and was wondering if I can just scrap it somehow.

How'd you find it in comparison to other Bethesda games?

Great, i honestly thought i was near the end of the main story, but it takes a variety of turns about 50% through. Obviously there are factions you can join or not join and those have their entirely different quests and different endings i haven't seen yet.

Compared to skyrim i enjoyed it a lot, they were engaging with enough combat and lore to keep me playing constantly. I liked it a lot better than FO3 just because you have so many different options you can go back to and decide who you'd like to fight for, kinda like NV.

Asking again, still looking for an answer.

Do I need to keep my skill books to get the buffs?

You can sell them iirc and keep the perks

I though that SentryBot was just a legendary enemy you could choose to fight.
Shot it once to see how powerful it is, it one-shotted me :(

@earlier, I did get the orange dialogue option but failed the Persuasion attempt

wait how do you strip the mods off?!

I told the dog to stay before a fight, then never went back for him. Is there a summon command or will he just show up at home?

ASSIGN one of your settlers to a guard post to complete that step.

If you're talking about the Corvair plant:
There's a named guy you need to kill. The V.A.N.S. perk can help you find him.

I just transfer ALL of the junk on to a workstation i frequent. Or on to my companion.

I could not call him. Had to go back and find him, then ask him to follow me.

... You... You can strip mods off? What? What the fuck? God damn this game for not explaining anything.

Goto weapon work bench. Just switch the particular mod back to its default state. You'll know you've done it when the name of the weapon starts getting smaller and smaller.

Long barrel 10mm pistol ---> 10mm pistol.

I just came across the General Atomics plant on the way to Greentop Nursery, and all of the robots here basically become hostile to you after talking to them? Did I do something to piss them off?

So hitting scrap is the wrong choice?! Im confused. Sorry im dumb!

You still need to craft the default mod no? So the resources you spend on creating the base mod in order to strip the modifier might not be worth it.

Yup ur right. But I had most weapons stock parts already, so it was always just a nice bonus. So many mods....

Good to know that every piece of loot is useful in some way.

You must REALLY hate the Souls series, then.

Well I don't hate them but they never really stuck with me. I usually like that kind of thing where the game doesn't explain much but in FO4 it's just annoying. Like how when I was doing the Starlight Drive In mission I had no idea where the Recruitmen Beacon was in the menu and the game doesn't tell you either.

EDIT: JESUS THIS GAME. A DEATHCLAW SOMEHOW SNUCK UP ON ME. FUCK

It took me hours to figure this out also.

So are gamma pistols the only radiation type weapon? It seems weird to have a perk dedicated to the damage type of only one weapon. Or does the plasma stuff count too?

Hey guys, is there any place that's a surefire bet for fusion cores? I need some for
Getting into Vault 81
.

Yes, but its difficult.

if you have the brothers questline one guy asks you to find a lost patrol. Do that quest and find the guy. Once you've found him at the barracks don't leave, continue into the barracks, kill the ghouls and eventually you'll find a room with lasers and a door with power armour behind it. Jump in the power armour and exit. As soon as you do a legendary sentry not will be there. He's hard as hell but if you kill him he has 5 fusion cores on him

Ran into a
mole rat last night that had two mines attached to it. I shot it and killed it when it jumped at me, but it blew me up and I was so confused. I thought I stepped on a mine / shot one on the ground or something. When I respawned I noticed it actually had mines attached to itself and I flipped a shit and immediately ran away only for it to take a shortcut around a building and kamikaze me again
. This game is awesome for those little moments you'd never expect lmao.
I had a radscorpion pop up in a field (first one I'd seen) and chop me and dogmeat into pieces like 20 times. Eventually I just gave up and ran for it. Blasted thing seriously followed me all the way back to Sanctuary where it ran into Codsworth and Preston and we all ganged up on it. Then I had grilled radscorpion for lunch. Awesome

You must REALLY hate the Souls series, then.
I love the souls series and don't really have a problem with F4 not holding your hand with its systems, but I think the UI could use some work to make things easier to manage. I'm like 10 hours in and never figured out how to take mods off without creating new ones to do so. I'm looking forward to user mods for the mod selection screen.

Also can you not choose colors for mods or objects?

I just spent like the last hour trying to make a decent looking house in one of my settlements and that shit is impossible. Guess I'm going to have to save up my caps for that house in Diamond city.

How do you remove weapon mods?

Well I guess we should call it "transferring weapon mods".

Since you have to have base weapon mod available for it (which you should if you are doing this anyway).

1) We have badboy 10mm which is what I named my 10mm.
2) We have powerul receiver 10mm. The one I want the receiver from.

Take (2) to the weapon bench. Remove mod by setting powerful receiver to standard receiver.

Junk (2) it if ya want, doesn't matter. You got the mod off of it now.

Take (1) to bench. Add powerful receiver to it. Done.

Every time you run into another pre modded 10mm, you can strip them of their mods and keep adding to your " bad boy 10mm".

There's a lot of nicer looking walls that seem to get added when you find the right magazines.

Settlements seem bugged. When I go to the pipboy menu and check my settlements, it shows Water 0, Defense 13 but when I'm in the the actual settlement Water 30 and Defense 144. No wonder my happiness doesn't increase. Wtf.

Did you get the
Deathclaw
?

Yeah, sorry if I confused the issue -- I'm in the Corvair plant and seem like I've killed everyone but haven't triggered the end of the quest. Based on another response, it seems like there is a named enemy somewhere I've missed. I'll do another trip through this evening.

If you're talking about the Corvair plant:

Thanks! I guess I need to take another peak through the plant. I killed everyone above and around it and seemingly inside but must have missed someone. I did find
Gristle's
terminal which was a nice little call back since I'd killed him a little earlier.

What difficulty is everyone playing at?

I started at Very Hard... and I am really enjoying it actually. It doesn't feel like it is just a complete stat stick boost. The AI feels challenging.

Just curious what your experiences are.

Alright, if anyone has seen some of my posts from this morning and maybe last night, you might get the impression I didn't like the game. I have to admit I was feeling very worried (the dialogue system was really bugging me and I was having a hard time getting into it).

But then I saw they had cooking and crafting stuff just like in Vegas but with better weapon modding and crafting shelters and I think its got its hooks in me (I like survival in my Fallout and I love being able to craft healing items and cooking food to eat). I'm even starting to overlook the voice acting (which is good, I just prefer a silent protag) and even the dialogue wheel (which I was vehemently detesting earlier this morning). Oh, and I love the power armor (though I'm sparing using it right now. But the demo they gave you says it is going to be fun). It's so much cooler as a vehicle (I never used or cared for it before except Fallout 2 where it actually was decent armor that didn't weigh you down due to the very good bonus of lifting. In Vegas and 3 the strength bonus really didn't seem to make up for it). And the deathclaws are appropriate this time around (I had a hard time even in power armor). Unlike 3.

Oh, and anyone who says Fallout 4 looks anything like 3 or New Vegas (ok, save the characters and NPCs) are crazy. It's way better looking and I was enjoying a sunset from a hill overlook. It was gorgeous.

I had issues with the death claw, and didn't want to cheese it, on very hard, so dialed it back to hard, which seems pretty decent.

Maybe, my PipBoy shows that
Sanctuary
doesn't have enough food, but when I actually go there everything is fine
