I started making a base at red rocket, but decided to start at the area after the vault. I put everything I made into storage, but I can't find it anywhere. Does the items you build in one area stay there, or can you move across to other settlements and reuse?

So, about all the random junk I never end up picking up: is there a use for junk outside of the junk gun?

The junks are incredibly important now because they provide materials required for modding your guns/armors and building your settlements.

In fact, they held so much importance that it's kinda annoying playing as a low STR character since I can't carry too much before needing to scrap them and storing various other items.

Cha 3 perk. Works with Dogmeat. Dogmeat can carry a lot, and with the perk you can as well.

Guess I should've been picking up all that junk then. lmao.

I end up hitting that weight thing way too easily due to 3 STR so I never get any. Didn't know there was a point.

I've a few questions I need clearing up if I may!!

1) I keep accidentally store items when building, where do these items go and how can I access stored items

2) power, is this right, I built a generator, then a wire from generator to a power point and then items work of proximity to that power point? I don't wire each item to the power point individually?

3) tattoos, I found one, but where can I access it?.

1) If you want to build a shack wall and you already have a stored shack wall you'll use that one instead of building a new one with new materials.

2) Some items need to be wired like searchlights. I do believe lights and such work close to the generator and don't have to wired individually.

3) Don't know, want to know this as well :)

When you dump junk into the workbench does it automatically convert to materials?

When you go to craft something it does. You can also break down guns and armor manually at the workbench to get more materials, as the game won't break those down automatically.

Tried to use a Stimpack yesterday and got stuck in my Pip-Boy with no way out. Gotta love it.
Picking away at the content slowly, love it so far. A welcome break from Destiny.

I hate how the companions ruin stealth for my sniper so I run lone wanderer. The +100 carry weight is nice too.

Learn to park him before fights. For 'dungeons', I park him at the entrance, go do my thing, then pick him back up when I exit, off loading all my junk on to him.

I used to have weight issues, but then I put pockets on all my armor pieces, equipped a +1 str/+1 end arm piece and took 2 levels of the Lone Wanderer perk. I also learnt that I really don't need to carry 100 stims, 50 blood packs and 50 fresh water all the time.

the voice actor/voice direction for the black male protag is really bad. There is just no passion in his voice. Voice acting in general has been pretty bad in general, I just finished the first main combat encounter in concord.

By the way, your light on the pip boy does affect your stealth negatively if you have it on. I can't remember if it was like this in Fo3 or F:NV though. It makes sense now why you also get head pieces with flash lights on them, I guess those don't affect stealth?

Might need to invest in Scrounger. The combat shotgun is one of my favorite weapons but I never have enough ammo to make proper use of it.

1) Yeah, I see it now, there is a bracketed number showing how many you have in storage.

2) Yeah, you're right, I think the things that need to be directly wired to the genie have a power required number, and those that don't, just have a spark.
Those that don't need direct wiring do work on a proximity basis, so basically you run a wire from your genie to your house using either a switch , powerpoint or pylon, and then any electrical items with run off it (Wi-Fi power?!) within (I think) a radius of 2 building squares, anything outside of this will need another power point / switch / pylon.

3) apparently there is one in Diamond city.........

Has anyone else gotten a piece of gear with the Chameleon prefix to it? This prefix makes it so that whenever you stop moving and are stealthed, you will enter a camoflage mode that makes you harder for enemies to see. I'm playing a stealth character, so I was pretty excited when I got one, but after using it for a only a short while, I was getting extremely annoyed by the way that the screen flashed every time that the mode went active. As a stealth character, you are often in stealth mode, and my screen was flashing several times a minute as I walked around. The effect is extremely obnoxious...its similar to the flashing effect that the game used when you first exited the vault, entering the very bright outside world. And there doesn't seem to be any way to turn it off (playing a console version). So eventually, I just started deequpping the gear most of the time, and equipping it if I ever really need it.

Is there any hope that they will either remove the effect or add an option to toggle it off?
For me the worst part is how it randomly breaks the pipboy by either making it so bright/ blurry that you can't read it or when it disappears completely. Sure both issues are fixed within seconds but those seconds reaaaaally matter in combat.

I wouldn't waste the points. Most vendors carry shotgun ammo as it's considered a 'basic' ammo type. Like, the Diamond City market usually has 40 to 50 to buy from the weapon vendor. Rest for 24 hours, and it restocks.

If anything, spending points on better barter prices works out better in the long run.

Well I realized slowly how much fun the powered armors are to use (and how much flavor to the game they add).

So since I was already a fairly INT heavy character I decided to take it all the way.

I decided I would become self reliant on the power armors, so I turned my girl into a tech savy mechanic who maintains her small garage filled with power armors for all different needs.

This is incredibly awesome, because you've always got fusion core management in the back of your head, even when you've got 12 of them you can't help but think to yourself "maybe I should take it slow and conserve my cores I might need them later...". So some times I get out of my suit and when I am out of my suit I have like no defensive bonuses so I am prone to dying in like 4 shots when it's just me my jump suit, which means it's time to stop being a death machine tank and you gotta take it real slow. The game goes from being the hunter to being the hunted it's a really cool change of pace. By far the coolest thing is maintaining your suit through all the combat you're going through. Finding a near by power armor station to maintain your suit when it's falling to pieces is super fun.

One of the most tense moments happened to me during a repair pit stop. I was wandering south of diamond city after fighting through TONS of super mutants even a few suicide bombers my armor was falling to pieces, the only parts that were still intact were the torso and the left arm. So I check my map and I see a junk yard near by that I had passed before, I remembered there was a power armor station there so I go to fix her up there. i only had enough metal to finish repairing the torso and the left arm so I go to look for things to break down into metal in the junk heaps. Then I get ambushed by another super mutant raiding party, 3 of them had miniguns. I panicked and sprinted back to the repair shop for safety but they surrounded me. I was fending them off from the bathroom with my combat shot gun but I couldn't stay out long enough to score a kill. So I knew what had to be done, I poked out used VATS to target the nearest mutants head which staggered him long enough for me to slip by, another one let loose a hail of bullets that took me down to like 15% hp. But I made it to my powered armor...my 30% complete powered armor. I hopped in and with only one good arm and my torso I fended off about 5 super mutants.

It was an absolutely awesome moment.

Here I am posing with my fully repaired armor after the battle ended.

That's basically the opposite of me. I only use power armor in very rare instances where I want to immediately clear an area that's a little too tough. Its like a secret weapon for me to pull out during emergencies. It feels like a nice treat to have briefly from time to time. I have like 15 fusions cores currently.

About 17 hours in now. I'm taking issue with way too many design choices so far, but soldiering on because the combat is improved and the world building is still well done.

Roundup:

- The dialogue system is a huge letdown. I know this has been said, but the idea of boiling things down to four "types" of answer and having one occasional "special" answer tied to Charisma feels cheap and uninspired

- Why are weapons and armor not degrading? With how widespread they are it would have fit perfectly into the game. I would have to balance the need for spare guns / armor with the need for junk / supplies. Keeping them around just to sell or breakdown does not feel worthwhile.

- The entire settlement building aspect feels incomplete as all hell to me. There needs to be way more clarity to the status of a settlement when you are in creation mode. Hovering over a settler should simply bring a popup listing what he / she is responsible for at the moment (the highlight thing is useless most of the time since objects are often out of view). The "trade route" perk needs to be available by default as the idea of scavenging and dumping supplies separately into each settlement is ridiculous. Moreover, I'm encountering several bugs in relation to this perk (pip boy counting settlers that are not there, supplies not being shared even though the route is active...etc).

- I'm not enjoying the pacing. It's strange, but I feel I was shown and given too much too quickly, and I didn't really feel like I was allowed to soak in the atmosphere of being alone and inadequately armed.

With Bethesda, the rule is: I'm fine as along as the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. I'm just seeing too many underwhelming parts this far in, but I hope that changes as I invest more hours.

I set my carry weight to max with the console last night, was trying to play pure but to be honest it felt like I was literally leaving parts of the game behind just to avoid going back to town every 15 minutes.

Never really had a problem with it in Skyrim/Oblivion/Fallout 3 but the additional layer of needing all the junk for crafting & settlements made it unbearable.

I figure that's how most people will be treating the power armor so I wanted to really juice that system for all it's worth.

I kinda went for a mecha anime vibe with my stuff, like my laser weapons are all named after gundam Beam Rifle models, or Beam Spray guns. I treat the powered armors much the same way as the characters treat their VOTOMS in Armored Trooper VOTOMS (variable and disposable, constantly needing tune ups). I am trying to see if there is a head piece out there that I can use to try to make my armor look like a scopedog or something.

I'm having such a blast playing the mechanic who is using their skills to survive by building the strongest armors.

How do I "dock" Power Armor in the yellow frames? Like the one in Red Rocket.

Go up to it and press USE, if you want it to look like it's properly "parked" there, then use the station to begin repairing it and when you back out your armor will be in the "docked" position.

in the Convenant, looking for the lost convoy, I can't understand what to do. I talked to everybody, found the convoy, found stuff in the convenant, that limonade but I can't tied anything and can't move past this ?

Wait, if I am running with dogmeat and not an actual person then I can still get the extra carry from lone wanderer?

This is amazing news if true!

It works on PC, can't speak for consoles.

Did you break into every Covenant home? read their computers? check their desks? Steal their underwear?

Pervert.

One question: near Sanctuary there is this Robotic Disposal Ground, in which you can activate a security droid or remove the activation tape.
I woke it up, but he stands there saying a line and that's it. Nothing more to it?

Yeah, I think the only way is to steal. Or maybe pass a charisma check with the trader lady.

Pretty sure it's in the mayor's safe. Then you just talk to Dan

I imaging the removal of weapon degrading is directly related to how indepth the crafting system is.
I guess it's about having a relationship with a weapon, rather than seeing it as a disposable commodity, although that could have just added a condition layer to it, but maybe they playtested it and found that it detracted from the upgrades?

As for the build mode, yeah, looks rushed, needs a lot of work.
