Basically saving and repeating things with a lot of RNG elements until you get the best possible outcomes instead of dealing with any of the consequences of failures.

I save alot only because I die at random points from a mine or something. I never save and reload for charisma checks or things like that.

Thanks, thats exactly the one I mean. So next basic question, how do i get population to grow? my sanctuary has high defense, and i added more beds, and they are happy. What else needs to happy for population growth?

I think it's under power, but there's a radio signal tower that sends out a signal to attract new settlers (the description says that) you set it up and hook it up to power and eventually new settlers come

Right, so I got the Scrapper perk, but when I store weapons at a bench it doesn't seem to break them down.

Like, I had no screws but loads of guns, so I had to throw the weapons on the ground and manually scrap them to get the screws. Is that a bug or how it should work?

Oh ok, just like in that quest at the start when you set up the tower at the other settlement. Thanks!

Can anyone with a higher level character give their opinion on:

Rifleman vs Gunslinger perks

Are there a good amount of high level pistols that do good damage? Does the armor Shredding ability of rifleman make it way better than Gunslinger? I prefer hand cannons in most games but I'm pretty torn over this.

You can scrap weapons from the weapons bench as long as they're in your inventory. Just go like you would to mod them and hit R.

You have to go to the weapon bench and break down all your weapons in your inventory. So load up all your guns from your workbench inventory, walk over to the weapon bench, and break down the weapons you don't need.

Man, I am 16+ hours into this game already. I haven't been this addicted to a game in a long time. I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I do have a couple questions, though.

Does anyone know of a good place to get .308 ammo? I've pretty much cleaned out all the vendors I know about and rarely seem to find it.

Do you have to keep those comics/magazines in your inventory to get the bonuses or are they permanent bonuses just for finding them? I have like 10 of them in my inventory I'd really like to get rid of if I can.

No, they are permanent.

Rather than sell them, display them on a rack :)

Location/Character spoilers!!!

Up to 2000 rounds and a few hundred AP can be bought from Sgt. Contreras in Camp McCarran every 72 hours. However, he won't have anything for sale if he gets incarcerated.
After the completion of the Dead Money add-on, the player may receive up to 20 .308 rounds (360 rounds if the player also received a complimentary voucher) from the vending machine in the abandoned Brotherhood of Steel bunker every 72 hours.
The NCR Rangers that appear at Camp Forlorn Hope carry 150 .308 rounds each.
The arms merchant sells quite a few .308 rounds at the 188 trading post.
The Vendortron at the Gun Runners kiosk sells medium quantities of AP, HP, and standard .308 rounds.
Alexander at the 188 trading post sells .308 rounds.
Quartermaster Bardon at the Hoover Dam offices sells .308 rounds.
HELIOS One - On a shelf behind the front desk.
Rarely found for sale by traveling merchants.
The Cottonwood Cove HQ contains a lot of .308 ammo boxes on the shelves, along with a hunting rifle.

I don't know how it's done with a controller, but with mouse and keyboard it's tedious and clunky as hell to do.

You drop everything, then as you select the item, you hit R to bring up the scrap prompt. Then you either have to hit enter (which means you would take your hand off the mouse to hit it for each and every single item) or you drag the mouse over to the enter prompt and click it. For an item or two no big deal. But for an inventory full?

Who the hell came up with that?

You can press E instead of Enter for most Enter prompts.

Jesus Christ. 17 hours in the game and I now realize that the game doesn't auto-scrap all the stuff I was transferring in my workshop.

I was struggling so hard to find screws lol. I'm swimming in them now.

any fun/interesting build?

I did melee/unharmed in the last Fallout game I played, not too long ago. but I've read it's really good here, not sure.
using random rifles sounds boring. maybe pistols only, um

So I'm not digging sanctuary as a base of operations, I wanted to put some work into it to make it cool but it seems too big, too daunting. Should I just wall off the houses I actually use and call it a day? Will the settlers stay within the walls or just the green boarder?

Also I heard you could build on top of the Red Rocket Gas Station but I wasn't able to build a set of stairs to get up there, any ideas?

Also in 3 you could pick up items in the world with R3, there some dead mole rats in the garage can pick them up and move them out of there? Or scrap them in workbench mode.

Wrong Fallout game :P

That's hilarious. I have a shit-ton of .308 ammo (I had over 800 at one point) and it's basically the only ammo I don't use with my current weapon set. Yet here I am scrounging around for shotgun shells and .45 ammo.

lol, i have a shit ton of every ammo type, i'm even selling ammo to vendors for caps.

Didn't realize you can easily steal stuff, by just carrying the items into another room first, lol.

Or maybe I should just try the Skyrim bucket method.

Gun vendor in diamond city has it, and I think he restocks after 24h

Do vendors in my own settlement sell stuff on the cheap? Seems like ammo is way cheaper @ my settlement shop.

posting this again since it was at the bottom of the page~

Lol, if that happened to me, I'd be torn between laughing my ass off or getting pissed that I'd wasted a mininuke when a single normal bullet would have ended up triggering the stranger.

This was pretty much my reaction.

Not at all. Makes more sense than every region in the US magically having different songs preserved for some reason.

That was my first thought, but also there were a lot of other songs during that time and a DJ gets to choose what they want to play so they easily could've had all fresh songs. Maybe just one or two for nostalgia.

Anyway, I'm not really complaining. The songs are great. The Billie Holiday song was our first dance song at our wedding. Just thought it was strange, is all.

Anywhere to find decent weapons and stimpacks early on? Level 8 and just got to Diamond City after finishing Corverga factory.

I'm confused on modding shit. How do you do that? I see all taht like steel, and shit but, where do i find it?
Pick a fight with some Gunners. There are a bunch around the Mass Fusion Building around Cambridge. They usually have some laser pistols, and you can mod those into a rifle by adding a stock.

Moving shit while building is easy. Just highlight it and press A.

Yeah, but I mean lowering or raising items on uneven terrain or things not snapping together when they should. That stuff you can also do with X + L1 and that just doesn't work smoothly for me.

Interesting. When live streaming on PS4, the licensed music on the radio station isn't streamed. You can hear the DJ talking between songs but not the music.

I'm not complaining, it's just surprising to me they can even do that. I think this is the first time I've seen a PS4 game control what specific audio is broadcast when live streaming.

Finding legendary enemies pretty frequenty on normal, there was a farmer being chased by a Legendary mongrel alpha and its pack, killed them and he ran off only to get killed by a legendary raider and his party..poor farmer..the first battle with the captain of thw ship has 2 legendary raiders i found a way to jump off the ship to go straight to looting them both..

The last Legendary I killed was a raider behind an advanced locked door near am area full of mutants..that clean stealth kill netted me a Chameleon left arm piece. It is my baby.
